RANT - Door-to-Door Salesmen... SalesPeople.. Whatever!

Canada

Okay, if you ring my doorbell, and disturb me in my home on my time, don't expect me to be nice. Generally, I just don't bother opening the door. I see people with name-tags, I'm busy, so I just let them see me, then walk away. Why does every company think that I want to buy something from my porch? Flyers, TV ads, Internet Banners, Newspaper and Radio aren't enough to get the message to me? I am far less likely to be receptive to a sales pitch while being harassed at my home, than any other time. Ring my phone, ring my doorbell, it's all the same annoyance to me. Here's an idea... actually offer something I want... and guess what, I'll sign up! If I don't, I don't want it.. quick asking... I know how to contact you.

I loves Schwan's. They have some loafs of bread you can get that are awesome. Schwan's is a home delivery for frozen foods. They have great ice creams and meats and you can place an order online and they will deliver it to your home. They will usually stop by periodically to see if you want to order anything else. They drive a truck stocked full of stuff.

Oooh...I hate that too. I'm really bad at saying no as well, so I usually just don't answer the door. Right now we live in an apartment building, so salespeople can't get in. It's one of the small conveniences of apartment living.

I used to live in an apartment and people would get in all the time. I was on the top floor, and I think they must have always started up there... I was constantly escorting people to the front office to be documented and kicked out the building. It was funny some of the tactics people would use.

It bugs me too, but I'm usually nice. I don't ever buy anything though, and compete with my husband to see who can get them to leave fastest. I think I hold the record with 2 seconds. Actually I do buy things from kids like girl-guide cookies and chocolate to sponsor sports teams. I don't mind supporting kids in the neighborhood.

I just don't even go to the door if I look out the window and it looks like someone that is selling something or if it's not someone I know. All my friends use the back door anyway, so if someone is at the front door and it's not a delivery person, I just let them go away.

I know all about the sales gig as I used to be in "sales". I actually tried car sales at one point. What a joke. It's all bull S@#t. I hate going into a dealership and those annoying car salesman follow you around and you know they only have one thing on their mind. Sell no matter what. The techniques of selling are BULL. "Yeah sir, I have GREAT NEWS! I can sell you the car and discount it $500". However the salesman just bumped up the price $500 2 seconds ago so did you really get a deal? Bull! Personally I don't like it. That's why I got out of it. I do know however there are some good, genuine people in the business. That is why I buy my car there, only.

It really depends on the time of day for me. If it's about mid-day, I'm not really doing much anyway so it's not that big of a deal. But at dinner time or first thing in the morning, then I'm not very nice.

But would you ever purchase anything? I hate being bothered in my home at any time of the day!

The problem I have isn't so much the time of day, but the pushy attitude of some of them. They think if they talk long enough you will buy or order something just to make them go away. I just end up having to say no thank you and close the door. Then there are the ones who ask if they can come in and show you what they are selling...as if I am going to let a perfect stranger in my home...get real. I ended up putting a no soliciting sign on my door.

Heh, those signs never work here... That's why I just stopped answering the door.. I wish I had a trap door, with a sign on my door which said, Ring the bell and the trap door will open.. then when they complain I'll say, well, it was on the sign!

well, since my husband worked for a company that did that (he sold these papa john pizza booklet things mostly...a really good deal, we ate a lot of pizza when he worked there) i can't really say i hate them...most of them are just doing it to get by..i try to be as nice to them as possible, they understand that some people don't want to be bothered, i normalyl don't because i have 2-3 kids running around at any given time. so i'm just polite, like i am to everyone that comes to my door. i just don't want them to be pushy, and they should get the point after 1 no. mostly i get the students trying to cell mag subscriptions for their education...i feel really bad about saying no to them..but i really don't need it and i don't have money to give to every person who asked...but i wish them well....

I understand it's their job... but that doesn't mean I have to be nice! I mean I should be nice to everyone, but after I asked them to leave, and they come back again and again.. well, nice can only last so long.

i have a quick test it is this, if something has to be sold it means it is not good enough to sell by reputation, if it is not good enough to sell by reputation it is not good enough for me to buy, with this in mind if someone is trying to sell something i dont want it. Dealing with sales people is easy i just repete what i have told you it works every time

I can't stand door to door salesmen/women but at the same time I TRY to be patient with them because I know they are trying to make money and I know how hard it is to make a buck!

That's true. I try to remember that when people call. I don't have a problem with door to door sales here. As long as they take no for an answer I don't get upset.

one of the market research psychology quote this. " Mr.mtbkanata is unique person, same like others and also me too..The next fact is all of them have different view ,perspective, environment, justify and need. Conclusion is probability have there to make sale." In this case you are not interested why so difficult to say NO and full stop.

As a salesperson myself i am prepared for all the things that will or might happened to me during my performance as as sale person. but i have to do it , because it is my job evenhough some peopl;e were annoyed by our being persistent, but sorry to say i have to do it. if i dont work were shall i get money to suppot my family. I am not a salesperson who go door to door, i ask for an appointment because i sell investment of insurance, If you encounter sales people may i ask you to just listen to what they will say they are jsut doing thier job. how about you do you believe in insurance

I can't stand door-to-door salesmen, I have never bought anything from them and I very much doubt I ever will. If I want to buy something I will go to a shop or order it online - I don't need someone to tell me what I want! I get a lot of people in my area asking me to support their charities - I already support the charities I believe in and I don't like having to tell someone that I'm not going to sign up to their's - it makes me feel bad as I end up looking like someone who doesn't care. Also, I know that these people going door-to-door are actually being PAID by the charity which wastes the money which has been donated by other people to support a cause they believe in. Jehovah's Witnesses! Their first question is always something along the lines of 'do you believe in Christ' when I say 'no, I'm an atheist' they ask me 'why?', 'what happened to you to make you lose faith?' etc. - I really don't need someone coming to MY door questioning my life choices.

I just had one of these guys stop by my house earlier this week. I told him I couldn't spend that kind of money without asking my parents. That was my way of not being rude considering he interupted my lunch while I was at the door talking to him. I got up to leave this morning and on my little narrow road passed the salesmen I coulnd't believe he went out of his way to come back. Oh well it was his wasted gas it was pretty obvious I didn't want the books and was trying to polietly rid him. I say wasted gas because I live way out in the country and I don't think he got alot of buisness out here. Also I don't want salemen at my door because even though YOU may be trustworthy I don't know who is scamming me. So I would rather not give any stranger my money to run off with. Now if you have the product with you...Maybe. However the Good Ole...I'll deliver the product later with half down doesn't cut it.

When we used to live in the city we had people knocking on our door all the time. It was amazing - from 4-8 pm we would get at least 1 person a day selling something or a petition or a jehovas witness. The amazing part is when they are out once it's dark - why would I open my door to a stranger when it's dark out? Some would pound and pound because they would see a light on and of course our dogs would go crazy. When the ADT security or any other home security people would come and try and give their pitch I would just open my door to the 5 dogs standing there (3 rottweilers and 2 mixes). They would say well someone could still get through those dogs and I would say if they get through the dogs than they want to hurt me no matter what and you can't get here any faster than them fighting off the dogs and me jumping out the bedroom window - LOL

I think it is the worst. I get furious when I have to stop what I am doing to answer to someone about nothing I am interested in. I have noticed that I dont see them dahova witnesses anymore. They would expect you to give up your religion and join them.Right
