We live in a samll rural community. Theres appx 7,000 people who live here. The events coordinator is a friend of ours and is looking for ideas for more events through the year. So far we have a Saturday in the park in may. A BBQ cookoff in August, a flea market in September(this just started this year) a chili cookoff in october, and a holiday festival in december. There is also a halloween haunted house in october and enchanted forest full of christmas tree's in december. She's looking for more ideas to fill in the space better because basically from december to may there isn't anything, then from may to august there's nothing. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

How about: - a Valentine's Day / Sweetheart / or Sadie Hawkins Dance - an Easter Parade (complete with a contest for the best easter bonnet?) or an Easter Egg Hunt - a scavenger hunt or car rally - a "decorate your bike" day and/or parade - a soapbox derby or go-cart racing - craft exhibition and/or sale - food exchange (cookies, preserves, pies - whatever you bring, you get to take home the equivalent that someone else has made - great to put a variety in your pantry or freezer) - dog / cat / pet show - community talent show Will try to think of more... sounds like you live in a really nice community :D

We have what is called a "Golden Gathering" at our park here every year. It is for Senior citizens. Different industries and businesses contribute money and food for a free lunch for the seniors and there is always entertainment in the form of a band with music that the seniors will enjoy. Also usually businesses and doctors, etc that cater to older people set up booths and offer free health screenings and things like that. We also have a big 4th of July gathering. Locally talented people voluteer to provide the entertainment and concession stands are set up in a big open area of our park. The whole community, just about turns out for this. It's all very patriotic. Veterans are recognized and a real patriotic program is put on each year. Even children are involved and groups of them get on the stage and sing.

In our community which is much smaller we used to have a dinner for the graduating seniors in our area. I don't know if this would work for a larger area but it is a thought. What about having a spring carnival? I wasn't sure if I had seen this on the orginal list (sorry short memory).

My brother organized a community ite flying even for all of his church one year. It was a big hit. Have to have a rainout plan though. In May our town has a huge parade on a Friday. It has been going on over 100 years. It originated to celebrate graduating eighth graders, because at that time that was about as far as school went. Now we celebrate everything from preschool to college, with floats, horses, a commecial carnival in town for a week. Have lots of fun.

we have to give the best one of us in everything w - we have to give the best one of us in everything what we make.
Many competitions in the life exist. For everything it is necessary to carry through tests and to show who is better. Therefore we have to give the best one of us in everything what we make.

Looks like most of the good suggestions have been made. I especially like live music and scavenger hunts. Only other thing I can think of is a kite flying day.

You could do a community honoree event, where people silently nominate a deserving family who needs help with home repairs or other things, and then that family is honored and treated special for a day. Or you could start a new festival based on some obscure event that happened in your community. For example, I know this community that had a bear come into the town square some years ago. There was such a huge deal over it that a festival was created over it, and now people come from all over to visit. You can read the details here: http://www.bearonthesquare.org/about.html Take care and Merry Christmas! Blessings.

Outdoor concerts are always fun.You could have one for country music, one for rock Etc.We invite local bands to volunteer for exposure to their music talents.Invite local churchs and people in the community to bring food for sale.Have ballon vendors and face painting.I sponsor events like this in my local park. The city lets us use it.

You have good events going on, Add some event to tap your natural resources and peoples initiative, I suggest you come up with craft making week, where the participants would create a craft out of the natural resources that you have locally, You can get some sponsors for prises or reward for best project, then from there an enterprise might grow. A tree Planting event or Front yard beautification contest is a fun and productive events where your community is dressed up. You can also organize a Music Festival, where all bands or Music enthusiast in your community have a venue to share their talents. I hope these ideas open up to generate more from your end. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

I love thi topic! The first thing that poped to mind was our town did a movie in the park thing where they rented a projector and screen an ran G andPG rated movies. They sold popcorn, sodas, and other snacks, too.It was so much fun and a real old-fashion family attmosphere. We had a great time! Oh and even though a lot of people brought n their own food, they ran out of most refreshments before the movie was over. CONS: The second time it was schedualed to happen we had a huge thunder storm heading in and only got to watch half the movie.
