Happy New Year?

Yet another year where: - women will be mistreated (usually by their husband); - children will be abused (usually by a direct relative); - pointless wars will be fought (usually for some preposterous reason); - natural disasters will strike (usually in the poorest parts of the planet); - famine will carry on as if nothing had been done (usually in the same places); - diseases will spread (usually because the main pharma concerns are too busy lining their pockets selling aspirin); - Mankind will carry on being unkind (usually due to human nature); etc. etc. etc... So... happy new year? :(

Thanks for the good comments. I think Thomas needs to get to a doc and get some antidepressants. I think if more people would start being happy and stop looking at everything in a negative way, we would have less problems in this world.

Bless your heart. If you only focus on the bad, you'll never see the good. Create a healthy balance in your life. We are here, make the best of it. Hows that for some catchy bumber stickers, LOL. Seriously, granted there are more horrible things than good in this world, but I'm too stubborn to let that get to me. I am determined to see the good things in life, if for no other reason than spite. Cheer up, who knows what good will come this year. And don't counter me with "..or bad"! LOL

What a sombre way to start 2007 Thomas73! But unfortunately you are right. If we all made New Year's resolutions to not just stop smoking, cut down on drinking, lose weight etc etc but also to do our bit to contribute more to individual and collective social development maybe we as a whole could make a difference? And don't forget all of the good things that will also happen this year! People falling in love..... Marriages.... First kisses..... New careers..... New adventures..... Let's hope that the former is considerably overshadowed by the latter in 2007!

My view may appear pessimistic, but it is also very realistic. Or maybe I'm simply a grumpy git! ;) Thanks for your response.

Oh dear. This is all true, but I do feel that we should also TRY to look forward to some positive things in our lives this year. This would be from a personal viewpoint rather than one that is universal. I look forward to becoming more successful in my job, to spending some time traveling wtih my family, and to just enjoying different aspects of my life in general. I do not bury my head in the sand about the things you mentioned, but maybe this could also be a year where we try to help in some of these areas, to make them just a bit better.

This year, like every other year, should see people strive to make things better. I know that there are indeed quite a few out there! Thank you for responding and I hope that life will treat you well in 2007... and for many years to come! :)

You have certainly mastered the art of pessimism. Unfortunately it is difficult to disagree with you because what you predict will no doubt take place as it always has in the past. Despite the validity of your statement, the world is not all doom and gloom and I am sure that we can also look forward to several good and positive times in 2007. Whatever the outcome, Happy New Year Thomas.

Yet another downer post Thomas? All of the things you mentioned are definitely happening, but so is great joy. Somewhere a baby is being born to a couple who really wants it, someone who has been suffering for a long time is finally dying, a man is loving his wife the way God intended, someone is doing something nice for someone just because. So yes, it is a happy new year. The year, as life, is what you make of it.

i don't understnad why you are so pessimistic, please hope for the best, 2007 yet another year where - we will see so many successful space missions by nasa; - will see democracy will rule the nations, peace will come to our earth again ... at least we all can try to make one people happy everyday, just think how many people will be happy at the end of 2007, how many people wil get a new means of life in 2007.

Hi.... Wish you and your family a Very Happy and Prosperous Year 2007 Enjoy each and every moment of life as time once gone seldomly comes back. If you are not able to be a part of friends happiness atleast try not to be the reason for their sadness. Have faith in the super power, may be he will elude u of success for quite some time, but remember alwayz 'GODS DELAYS ARENT GODS DENIALS'. Give in your 100% effort coz u need not regret it later, and believe me, god himself cant deny success to the deserving people. Success and Money are relative terms, Success is light and Money is shadow, Dont try to catch the shadow(Money), ull never be able to achieve it, instead follow the path of light(Success), money will follow. Spread the message of Love and Peace. Wishing you all the success in your future endeavours. Regards, Raj

Dear Mr. Thomas!!! Will the things not be like this. Man will be mistreated by the woman. Woman will misuse the women empowerment legislation against her husband and in laws. Elders will keep on interfering the marital lives of their sons and daughters. Some inventions will likely to be made to predict natural disasters. A new breed of high yield variety seed will be invented to avoid the famine. Inventions will come out to cure the incurable diseases. Some merciless persons will turn to be merciful. etc... etc... etc... So, Happy New Year-:) How is this?

Thomas? Have you ever read Napolian Hill's book "As A Man Thinketh"? You should. We are to "call into being, that which is not yet seen" because we're all made of energy. You, my friend, are sending out negative energy. So think happy thoughts, EVERYONE THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS in 2007. Don't be grumpy or depressed, whatever situation one gets is because of their own thoughts. The mind directs the body, so keep a happy mind and your body will do happy things. And another thing Thomas, if that's you're REAL PHOTO, try smiling, you'd be amazed at how far that goes. Please don't think I'm picking on you. Its just that your post reminded me of the way I was and felt about life years ago. I get up thankful each morning that I have a roof over my head and food in my belly and that I can still breathe air. Have an 'attitude of gratitude', things will work out, if you work on thinking POSITIVE.

Thomas, you really aught to pick role models you want to be like, if you want happy, funny, prosperous, healthy, look for folks like that, then 'mimic them'. Do what they do, after all, that's why they are happy, funny, prosperous, healthy, etc. Pitch that pic of that ugly poet in your profile and let the real you come forth. I know you got it deep inside you, you just have to look 'within yourself' and find 'good things' about yourself. Even the worst person in the world has a little something good about them. Seek and you shall find, my friend, then you'll become a person similar to me or another that possesses the qualities and traits that you long for. Remember, IT'S ALL IN YOUR THINKING - it starts in your mind.

This is what we call a life cycle! But even though the "Happy New Year" lasts only on that day, it is sad that several of what you have talked about actually happen even at the start of the "happy" new year. It's life. And I think the slogan/greeting is just a wish.

and a Happy New Year to you. You are looking at all the negative cts of life, so I'll try some positive ones. More cures will be found for cancer, Mistreated people will get the help they need and deserve, U.K. will get rid of their worst Prime Minister in History, U.S. will finally realise that other countries have valid opinions as well. Russia will cut the price of gas to all other countries, richest countries will provide more aid to the poorest countries to enable them to grow more crops for themselves, countries will realise that wars are pointless and become friends instead, and you are more likely to be right than I am.

I have to beg to differ that any cures found will be hidden from us. I have a friend that lives right now, as a matter of fact serving in the US Navy, because she survived cancer via the methods that many fought long and hard to find for Hodgkins. Not everything in this world is bad. Perhaps many would find life a lot more pleasing if they saw the good along with the bad.

Traditions of the season include the making of New Year's resolutions. That tradition also dates back to the early Babylonians. Popular modern resolutions might include the promise to lose weight or quit smoking. The early Babylonian's most popular resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment.

Your statement looks realistic... but, v should always look for the best which is going to happen... the whole world is mixture of bad and good... We need to take the good things and move on with the bad... As long as we have done something good for the mankind will surely make this year a good one... Even for you if u were able to stop atleast 2 or 3 attrocities u will feel good for yourself.. Anayways wishing you a happy new year ahead..

Nice way to keep it real. It's a shame, but it is all true. It is never far from my mind. I am so afraid of what this Earth will be like when my son is 5. Pure frustration.

There are always plenty of negative things happening in every year or day, but many positive things as well. I try to do what I can to help alleviate the negative-- contributing to disaster relief and other charities, etc.-- because there is nothing I can do to prevent them. If people only focused on the negative, they'd probably find no reason to continue living--after all, they are going to die eventually, all their friends and family are going to die too, etc.

that was awesome!! i am sure u haven't had the best of days today and your image talks a lot!! jokes apart this is very real thomas. and we shud not rule this out as pessimism for this is realistic and we shud not cover this up with too much of positivity. having said this, we should always have the hope going and it will get us going i turn. what is a life without dreams and aspirations!! let us hope for the better and work accordingly. our small small contributions can actually get big in due course. so, this new year light a candle of hope and humanity and do something for its sake. let's be a good worker than a talker. thank you thomas for a thoughtful discussion.

Doesn't u seem pessimistic. Ya i too believe that everthing will not be by u'r side all time. But it doesn't mean to lose hope. Why to think bad before it happens, instead prepare for that. why not welcome the new year happily. May be u r optimistic thinking that ,all will not be well but stll "Happy new Year"

I am sorry to say that you are probably correct with your hopes for this new year. I don't think that we can do much about it as a nation, but maybe as individuals, we can try to make things a bit better for ourselves. In turn, that might have a positive effect on our world. I have as little faith in the powers that be as you do. Happy New Year.
