What smells remind you of childhood?

Whenever I smell crayons I'm reminded of being in school as a little kid. Sometimes the smell of asphalt reminds me of going to an amusement park. Are there any smells that remind you of the past?

Absolutely! Any time that I smell lilac, I'm reminded of being at my grandmother's house when I was young. She used to have a lilac-scented perfume that she wore all the time and, when I visited, she would let me use some too.

that's a good one -- if I smell mothballs I'm reminded of my grandma's house -- somehow I like your memory better!

LOL mothballs! I had forgotten those... my grandmother had those too, in her cedar armoire, which is now in my house ... sans mothballs! ;)

The smells of childhood for me would be: Crayola crayons, cut grass, tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, and those felt tip markers that give noxious fumes.

if we're thinking of the same thing-- those markers were the best.

Smelling chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven reminds me of my childhood, infact it brings back a lot of positive memories for me :). When I was a little girl I would spend a lot of time at my grandmas house (we'd have sleepovers) and we'd always make chocolate chip cookies. I was always so fascinated that she had the recipe memorized...she never once had to look at the book! I also remember how everytime she would turn around, I would swipe my finger through the dough and eat it!! She always thought this was bad because there was raw egg in it, but I would be sneaky and do it anyways! I'm actually pretty lucky that I never got a sore tummy from it, considering how much dough I was sneak hehe.

ah.. chocolate chip cookies. that's a good one. My mom always made them when we were little. She tended to burn them though, so burning chocolate chip cookies are what remind me of home.

That distinctive smell of Play Dough reminds me of sitting at the kitchen table at my parents house creating things with my brothers. I recently was playing with my niece, and the smell of the Play Dough hasn't changed a bit!

Yeah, that one takes me back too. I hate to admit this, but it still tastes the same too.

Honeysuckle and Hedgerow. Those smells were around all summer long. Funny, I now live in the town where I grew up and the smells aren't around much anymore. A lot of the old hedges have been taken out and I guess the honeysuckle went too. I blame it all on those damn yuppies! They ruin everything.

Elmer's paste definately reminds me of grade school. I hated working with that stuff, too. I was always so gloppy and sticky...but then, wasn't most things in childhood gloppy and sticky?

The smell of any wooden musical instruments reminds me of my childhood as I had an old violin of my grandfather that I used to play. Now I hardly have time to play violin but that old familiar smell reminds me of my childhood.
