I was looking at some of the news in yahoo.com tonight and I read this one. It was shocking and interesting. It's about someone who hanged himself just because of a failed online dating meeting. Read on to know more about it!

Beijing (Reuters) - A 17 year old Chinese boy hanged himself after a catastrophic meeting with his online sweetheart. The teenager became addicted to QQ, the most popular online chatroom in China and stayed in the internet cafe for days on end. He fell for a girl called "QUNJIAOFEIYANG" (Flying Skirt in English) on the net who described herself as a beautiful 19 year old. To his intense disappointment, his dream girl turned out to be a plain lady who was more than 10 years older than him. His parents tried to comfort and console him but his hopes were crushed so he went out to a nearby hill and hanged himself last December 30. Police excluded the possibility of suicide.
What can you about this article? Do you think that online dating is good or bad for us? Honestly, my opinion about this article is that it depends on the person who does online dating. There is nothing wrong with it. It's just that it's so hard to know if the person on the other computer is really honest and true to what he or she said to you. It's better to be vigilant and to clarify things first before coming up with an absolute conclusion about something. It's just too bad that the boy's life had to end that way just because of a silly love affair with a woman whom he has never seen in his entire life. He should have thought about those possibilities and should never have let his heart do the talking and the decision making. Now, that is a lesson we all have to learn before it's too late...What do you think? ^^

I was just in an online relationship for three years. I would suggest it to someone with a strong mind, but for anyone who is on the weaker side, don't ever try it. Always ask for more than a picture from your significant other. I was actually lied to twice by my SO and their photos. It wasn't the photo I was worried about. It was other things, but although our relationship ended because of a few lies and smaller issues, we are still very good friends. It just came to the point where we just couldn't date.
Anyways, this kid took it way to far. My boyfriend should have been 28. We broke up because it turned out that he was really a she my age (around 18). If I can take that after 3 years of dating her, I'm sure there was more to make him kill himself. His parents should have watched his online activities a little better. Not to place blame... but I still think so.

Ouch! That was bad. I'm glad you got over it. I agree with you. Online dating is only for people who are strong. If you are weak then I suggest that you go dating face to face instead. Well that's better...Thanks for the response! ^^

That is a tragic story, unfortunately, many people online are not what they present themselves to be. However, I met my boyfriend online so for me it has been a good experience. You can meet someone on the street - they have a pretty smile and an evil heart and sometimes you can't know. Unfortunately there are a lot of freaks out there and the internet is there playground. I think especially for younger people, such as teenagers it is harder to read between the lines or pick up on certain inconsistencies that could send red flags. All I can say is one has to be careful - you never know what's lurking behind your computer screen.

I myself joined oline dating sites but not to look for a partner in life. I have a different reason why I joined those sites. I love to learn other's languages and I think this is a way to learn also. It is very hard to study other's languages by myself. Another this is I want to know other's culture which I think a good way to broaden my horizon.
The news is really heinous because frustration dominates himself and decided to kill him. He is still young to face the ups and downs of life. He is very negative.
Well, there is always two sides of a coin. There are advantages of online dating and also disadvantages.
We should always be ready in any kin of situation that we will encounter. Be positive.^^

That's a sad news. I am sorry for the boy's parents. Well for me, I meet my husband online. I would this that once you joined online dating, you should also know that a lot of possibilities are there. It is really a case to case basis just like the usual world (not online)

The Technology has Developed A lot...But,the activities Like online Dating,Mating etc are Great disadvantages of this technological Revolution...Many Teenagers(even old people) are wasting their golden time by sitting in Cyber Cafes and spending lot of money for these purposes...They can use this money and may perform several Vital activities which may enhance their life.....so, i think dat dese activities r too bad...

I agree with you there. I think time is precious and these people don't know what they are missing in the world outside. They should get out and do other things often. That way they will not think of doing such things to themselves. Afterall, the world does not end there. ^^ Thank you for posting!

Anything can be good or bad depends on the way we deal with it. We all have to determine the consequences of our plans first before actually taking action on it.
As for online dating, I think the only disadvantage of it is that even minors can access it. Minors as we all know still don't have proper judgment. They are more likely to stray so, they need strict guidance from their parents. Online dating can't be that bad except that of course, there are bad people taking whatever advantage they can with it. We can't blame online dating per se. There are people behind it that's more responsible for the good and bad that's happening out of the activities going on with the online dating thing. We cannot blame online dating for whatever bad happens to us or to any of our family mambers because it is still ouw ownselves that are responsible for our fate. I mean, we can control our actions.

HMMM!Online dating...If I would be alone,without boyfriend,I would try,but in my case...I don't like that.It is interesting to know people from another country,maybe from another culture,to change information,and to give some advise when someone need.But,I repeat,in my case,that is not possible.Have a nice day;)

i never experience the online dating...but i think i can give little comments on that. for me online dating sometimes is good for those you want to know more people thus have more choices in making the most important decision in life. however this relationship should be built on honesty and trust. this is the problem nowadays...no honesty in relationship therefore making online dating complicated..

thats a very bad news. Personally in my opinion i think online datin gis not bad at all. Yes its really depend on the person itself who joined in such site. The fact that we know that it is an onlinedating we should be careful in knowing certain person as its not actually seen in person. So we have already known that people can do whatever they want to do like impersonating, or playing and some other reason. We should not really get hooked with anyone. So we must be careful.

online dating is good not bad ,such type of incident happened in our daily life allor not because of online dating , there may be another reason behind that. online dating is absolutly a two way coomunication if it is in right way ,for right purpose and with right thinking than its always good and if its goes with wrong mind than its become bad, so its depend on the situation each and everything in this world have two phase of the coin.
