Don't eat, or drink tea or coffee within 4 hours of going to bed.
Avoid any physical exercise within 3 hours of going to bed.
Do something relaxing like reading before trying to sleep.
Take a warm, milky drink before going to bed.
Take a lavender oil bath before you go to bed. (Lavender relaxes)
Put a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow, or in a pot pourri pot next to your bed.
If you are unable to relax and drop off to sleep once you're in bed, you could try some meditational breathing exercises, to clear your mind. This is done by breathing in, to the count of 7, holding for the count of 5, and breathing out for the count of 7. Do this for as long as it takes to drift off.
I hope these things help. If not, maybe you have a sleep disorder and need to see your doctor.
Good luck and Brightest Blessings. :-)

Are you a working person or staying at home? because for me when I was staying at home I used to stay awake in my bed for this reason I used to sleep at 5 a.m. or maybe after but now after work I can sleep anytime, the first thing you need to do is to be tired when you go to your bed the second thing is to free your mind from anything while you're going to sleep try not to think in anything even it is coming to your mind say to yourself no I'll not think leave for tomorrow when you wake up, you can also try to watch some t.v. while you're in your bed for example my mom can't sleep except with t.v. and good luck.

you need to start a new routine . on the first morning get up early , even if you are exhausted , then go to bed at reasonable time. do a little physical exercise to use up some energy in the daytime . keep this routine up and i bet you will be sleeping properly after a week.you could also try a relaxation tape. put it on , close your eyes and drift off . theyre great and i bet you never hear the eend of it .

Try to drink a Glass of milk before bed. Thats was I do. Milk helps me calm down at the end of the day. People say to lay off the caffine a couple hours before you go to sleep to. I am sure that would help alot if you are drinking soda before you go to sleep. And then maybe a nice warm shower before bed also. So many different things you can try and if none of that helps you could try taking sleeping pills.

I think you should eat light dinner and then go for a walk to help clear your mind and thoughts. And then read a good book or listen to good music. then you can meditate and chant some hymns like OM... it will creat positive effect and you will feel peacefuil besides do deep breathing exercises that will help too. Don' watch too much TV and internet at night and sleep early. you will have good night sleep. good luck.

You can try to watch a little bit of tv before going to bed, it may get you sleepy and then just get quickly into your bed and try to sleep, it must be easy then.
Besides that I don't know what else you can do, it's boring for me when I can't sleep too because the more I want to sleep the less I can do it, so it's better to get up and go do something else and don't stay in bed waiting for it to come, it may take some time.
Good luck, I hope this can help you.

I'm a nocturnal mammal, so I tend to be awake for the most part of the evening, but when i tire myself out during the better part if the day, the bed would be the first place I look forward to. Try doing something that will wear you out and you'll surely be longing for some sleep. Though when I hadn't done much that'll make snooze off that easily, I watch old movies. Since I'm the type who has low tolerance for old movies, halfway through the movie, I'd be off in dreamland.

exersizing earlier in the day helps alot..Of course don't exersize to close to bedtime but try and make it a morning ritual maybe..
I like putting on soft music as well..Some people need total silence to fall asleep but I noticed when it's silent my brain can start racing about the day's events or what I need to get done the next day. The music sort of takes my mind off things and works like a charm for me..
Also it's easy to get off schedule..You stay up late one night so you sleep later the next morning thus not feeling tired at your usual bedtime that evening..
When you do stay up late, try your hardest to still wake up early and make it through the day

You should try taking a warm bath in lavendar scented water. Lavendar makes you feel relaxed and sleepy. I usually try watching a little tv before bed but not finishing out the show or movie then lying down and playing out the rest of the story in my mind helps me to concentrate on one thing so my mind isnt just wandering or racing.

..sometimes something very sugary will make me fall off to sleep better and sleep deeper, so I save any desserts for before bed.. But I'm thinking a strong (small) cup of catnip tea might help. As catnip sure puts my cat to sleep! And it's less fattening!

Maybe you have insomnia. Try talking to your doctor and maybe he can prescribe some sleeping pills or try some over the counter ones like Tylenol PM. Maybe you are stressed out and have too many things running through your head which could prevent sleeping

A lot of people are sympathetic and have posted good advice. What I have read incorporates a lot of the same. Other things it adds, like: First thing in the morning get about 15 minutes exposure to the bright light, like sunshine or a bright lamp. Take your warm bath or shower early enough that your body temperature drops down as it approaches your bed time. Have a light snack of carbs and milk based food and drink, but not too much. If you have a lighted alarm clock, turn it so you do not see the numbers. Do not use the TV or internet close to bed time, like for an hour or two, because the light you absorb stimulates wakefullness. Make your room very dark, and on the cool side. Do not play music that you know words to, as your mind will want to think of the words and keep you awake. Reading in bed is good, and soothing. Lavender scent is good. Physical activity earlier in the evening is good. Take a calcium and magnesium supplement, it helps with unwanted muscle spasms. Good luck. Do like the member said who told you to establish a new routine.

If you drink coffee, or anything with cafiene in it, try stopping that for a few weeks, and see if that helps! I can't drink coffee past lunch time or i'm up all night and can't shut my brain off!
Or what about those natural sleep aids, you can asky our doctor about them, or you can try the herbal kind, they are called Vallarian root, THEY STink, i'm warning you, but they can help. they helped me sleep when i couldnt get to sleep.
