Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Mix - Gift In A Jar

I have made many gift baskets over the last few years. They are always well recieved. There are many ways to make them but my favorite is a theme basket. I have added several discussions on gifts in a jar and other mixes on mylot. This recipe is great in a cookie theme. You can pack a few cookie gifts in a jar onto a cookie sheet with a dish towel to raise the top portion off the cookie sheet. Add a cute cookie Cuter and cover with cello wrap. It is beautiful. You can add tissue paper or fancy dish towels to make it attractive. You are only limited by your imagination. Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Mix in a Jar 1 c Firmly packed brown sugar 1 1/2 c Firmly packed powdered -sugar* 1 1/2 c Flour mixed with 1 tsp Baking powder and 1/4 ts Salt Yield: 1 Jar *(clean inside of jar with a paper towel after this layer) Layer ingredients in order given in a 1 quart wide mouth canning jar. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next ingredient. Remember to add the following directions: Empty jar into large mixing bowl, use your hands to thoroughly mix. Add 1 stick soft butter, 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter, 1 egg slightly beaten and 1 tsp vanilla. Mix until Completely blended--you will need to finish mixing with your hands. Shape into balls the size of walnuts Place 2" apart on sprayed cookies sheets. Bake 350 for 9-11 min til edges are lightly browned--cool 5 min on baking sheet and remove cookies to racks to cool completely Makes 3 dozen cookies

These are a fun idea. I like the idea of giving someone such a well rounded basket. And you could always, I suppose, just make the jar look really pretty and attach the directions with a ribbon, and that could be the whole present.

Are there supposed to be chocolate chips (or another tyype of chocolate :) in the jar or the instructions? Maybe I'm just missing it, but I don't see the chocolate in "Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Mix" anywhere in the directions! I make a cookie every Christmas (like my Mom and Grandma before me :) that we call "Peanut Blossoms." It's a peanut butter cookie (use your favorite recipe) with a chocolate kiss pressed into the center while they're warm, just as they come out of the oven. Yum! ~Sara
