How gentle are you with your rabbit?

I've heard a lot about rabbits being sensitive. So sensitive in fact that they break their own spines or have heart attacks from being scared. Do you play rough with your bunny? I let mine come out and play with cats all the time. I love to walk her outside both on and off of her harness. I even let her play with our black lab. Do you let other pets play with your rabbit?

We used to have a mini rex rabbit. She was such a sweetie pie. We litter-trained her and let her have run of the house for a few hours every evening. At that time, she was our only pet and we were very careful with her. She just seemed so fragile. My only beef with her was that she loved to chew on electrical cords. She even ate all the buttons off my tv remote when I wasn't looking!

What is it with rabbits and remotes? They seem to love the buttons! I have to put plastic sheaths over electrical cords if they're near where the rabbits can reach.

I haven't had a rabbit for a pet in a long time, but I have heard the same things you have. I would let mine out to play (I had two at the time) with each other, but that was it. My dogs didn't want to play with them, and neither did my cats, but they weren't small by any means. They were about as large as one of my cats, so the other animals didn't mess with them. They all pretty much ignored each other. :)

I'm pretty careful as far as handling them, making sure they're held tightly and won't hurt themselves. I don't use harnesses because of the back breaking issues and also because I really don't need them. The rabbits can run around the house as they please. I know if I just pour a few pellets in their pens, they'll run right back in. My 10 year old rabbit, when he was about 5 years old, used to come to the animal hospital that I worked at with me. And he'd play with the cat. Once he scared it right into a trash can! It was a gentle cat though and I didn't have to worry. Other cats aren't so nice. All depends on the cat and the rabbit. As far as other pets though, I don't let them near the rabbits. I also have guinea pigs and rabbits can seriously injure guinea pigs way too easily. Plus, my guinea pigs live in 7 square foot to 9 square foot cages, not puppy pens like the rabbits. They'd make a mess in that kind of enclosure. I don't let either rabbit outside currently. The 10 year old, I don't let him out more because of risk of heat stroke or a hawk swooping down. The 2ish year old... well, I caught her before when someone let her loose (that's how I ended up with her). And I can tell you it was a very hard job that I wouldn't like to duplicate!
