Your Cooking Skills

People often ask if I am a good cook or if someone else is. I think that is a really hard question to answer unless someone is a professional chef. I mean, I haver certain things that I can cook really well. There are other things that just aren't my specialties. lol For instance, I don't bake. Things always go wrong when I bake. Just because I am not good at certain things, does this make me a bad cook?

I don't think that you should overlook your cooking skills just because you don't happen to be good at a certain speciality. I think what defines a good cook is the variety and passion for cooking. If you are willing to cook different sorts of dishes and are always in the process of wanting to learn how to cook new things, I think you can be considered a good cook. And as long as your dishes are acclaimed by those that are close to you, you have all the right in the world to feel like the best cook around. That's how I think at least :)

I would consider myself a good cook. I like to cook and bake and I think I do a pretty good job at it. I'm always getting compliments on my baking. Of course there's always somethings that don't go right, but that doesn't happen too often.

That doesn't make you a bad cook.....most people tell me that I'm a very good cook....I most certenly don't have any profesional training. I can cook most things and I love to bake....but when it comes to fried chicken....I'm a total failure. So I just try to stay away from the things I can't do very well and shine with the ones I can.

We Can't All Be Bakers - beautiful wedding cake decorated with peach roses
No I don't think so . We all pride ourselves on our specialties. Why bother with baking. Stick with what you know and you will be a star

No your not a bad cook, you just need to practise a little more and vary the things you cook. Try something different, like if you've only baked cakes make biscuits instaed or a pie. Find your niche. When it comes to my mum, I doubt anyone can be as bad as her.

IMO, that doesn't make you a bad cook! I think even profession chefs probably have areas where they arent AS good in. I believe I'm a good cook ... but Im not really a good baker, either.

Good or not - Everyone is good at something
I don't think just because you don't bake makes you a bad cook. I love to do both baking and cooking. Now when it comes to baking I can't for the life of me make good peanut butter cookies but can make breads, cakes and other cookies and candies. I love to cook and can make chicken every night for a month and it never taste the same. Keep the fires going and the spoons stirring.

No, it doesn't make you a bad cook. Just like everyone else you're good at some things and not so good at others. I don't usually like to cook, but when I do, I do it well. I tend to like to buy the frozen dinners I can toss in the oven or the easy to fix things. Sounds like you're probably the same? Nothing wrong with that!

I thought i wa a good cook until I got married, then i found out how good my husband was so today Im a good cook thanks to him. So Basically, I think you can always improve cooking, no matter how good a cook you are

I try not to bake complicated items because they always go odd on me too..lol. However, everyone else seems to enjoy everything that I cook. My friend in Alberta is coming home for a visit soon and she has already put in her requests..lol. I enjoy cooking for alot of people, but find it harder just to cook for myself and the kids. Odd? I don't know..lol

Just like beauty I would say, cooking is at the taste of the beholder. Cooking is subjective because the taste of different people varies. So I think you are not a bad cook.
