Have you seen the Aurora Borealis- activity may be high on or around Jan 29,2007

Auroral activity (Northern Lights) may be high on or around Jan 29th due to a solar wind stream flowing from a coronal hole in the sun. Coronal holes cause a higher wind speed that squeezes the Earth's magnetic field and can produce geomagnetic activity. So for those that are in Canada, Alaska, and some northern states in the US, now is the time to break out you camera and watch the skies. Because you might be able to catch a nice photo! :) Have ever seen the Aurora Borealis? Do you have any personal pictures? Note...personal pictures and not something you find on the web. I have yet to see this in person...but I hope to one day! This is a very informative sight on the current happenings in space weather. :) http://www.spaceweather.com/

I have seen the Northern Lights before but it was a long time ago. My boyfriend has never seen it so thanks for telling me about this. The last time this happened I didn't find out about it until afterwards so I missed it. I live in New York so hopefully I will be able to get some pics. Now if I can just remember when to look.lol

I was lucky enough to see it once up in Michigan. It was breathtakingly beautiful. It stuck with me all these years. If I had the chance again I would see them in a heart beat. I'm not sure if I can even discribe it at this point. If you have ever seen oil mixed in water and hwo the sun can hit it making all these beautiful colors that just shimmer and move about. It was almost like that but with the night sky behind it. Hope that makes sense.

I have only seen the Northern Lights one time before (a few years ago) and I didn't know what it was! I remember thinking that it was toxic! My husband had a good laugh at that for a long time! :) I wonder if I'm far enough north to see it ... I think it's hit and miss with us!

That's funny, the first time I saw them I screamed. I was yelling "Oh my god what's happening, look what is it, is it UFO's" I was almost hysterical and my friend was laughing so hard she couldn't tell me.

I would really love to see this phenomena .. I bet it's truly awesome .. to see those colours rippling throughout the sky .. wonderful ... I have seen a film of the Northern Lights on TV but I doubt it is anything near as wonderful as seeing the for real .. Sadly in the UK we don't get to see the lights .. although I believe in some parts of Scotland they have been seen ... One day I will take a holiday to see those Northern Lights .. maybe .. possibly !

I actually did see it once, but didn't realize what it was that I was seeing at the time. I had just flown into Nashville, TN and had literally gotten in the truck with my Mom and headed north through Clarksville, and up into Kentucky so that I could head west and bring her back to Nevada. When I was heading over the nill from Nashville towards Clarksville I could see these funky colors in the sky and I remember just tripping over and thinking that maybe I was loosing my marbles. I thought it looked a little like what the Aurora Borealis was supposed to look like, but thought that it couldn't possibly be such a thing considering that I was so far south. Two days later I was at a hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah and saw the news. They were talking about the Aurura Borealis being seen extremely far south into the states. After that, I knew that it was what I had seen. I wish I'd had a camera to stop and take a picture.

Thanks for the information, I just checked and could not even see the stars, so it must be cloudy. I hope it is clear weather on the 29th here near the Arctic Circle, Scandinavia. We often see Aurora Borealis in winter, it is really beautiful so I hope everyone could be able to see it. It should be visible in the south sometimes too. If you check my profile you will find a poem about this great phenomenon.

If you live in the northern U.S. or Canada (or Russia, Scandanavia, etc.) definately mark your calendars. I saw the Northern Lights years ago when I lived in Milwaukee and my brother lived near Eau Claire Wisconsin. Many times when I was driving back to Milwaukee in the evening the sky would suddenly light up. Some nights it was a mild brightness in the sky but other times it would get very active with waves of light moving across a wide section of sky. I regret that I never had the opportunity to get pictures of the show. I now live in Arizona so I doubt we will be seeing them this far south, although our clear, dark nights give us a spectacular view of the heavens every night and the Northern lights would be really spectacular in the sky we have here. Good luck with your viewing and thanks for sharing the calendar link for those who can use it.

Yes, I have seen the Northern Lights. I used to live in Alaska and it was so beautiful! I would have to go through all my photos to see if I still have any of that. I lived in Alaska for almost 24 years and I raised my daughters there also before we left after my divorce. I live in southwestern Oregon now. It is beautiful here. I hope you get to see them!

Because I lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, (yeah I'm a Yooper). I have seen the Northern lights many times. I can't even say how many. I have to say that they are one of the things that I will always want to see again. They seemed to show up more during the winter than any other time of year. They are truly wonderful to see. I hope to be able to show them to my wife, who has never seen them. Thank you for the link.

I absolutely adore the Northern Lights. I realy miss seeing them! I used to see them quite often in with winter when I lived in Northern British Columbia, Canada. They were so amazing! You'd not just see the blues, whites and greens that you often hear about, but the bright yellows and bursts of red that can happen when you're way up North. SO gorgeous! BB, Wyrdsister

Even though I live in a northern state (WA), I have yet to see the northern lights. I do visit the Space Weather site often though. Some amazing photos there of all sorts of phenomena. I never knew what a "glory" was until I saw it on their site. I will have to get the camera out on Jan. 29th and hope for clear skies. Thanks for the alert!

I live in Massachusetts, usa we don't normally see the northern lights here. On certain occaisions they are seen from here but it's not a regular occurance. When I lived in Washington, I saw them quite frequently. Very beautiful, but I have no pictures. I wish I did, but never had my camera with me when I saw them. Thanks for the link.
