Philippines

Our country was set again for another election. We filipino dream that someday the result of the votation will be a clean one. The one that really voted by majority not by the one who manipulate the election. Would you think with various campaign from various religious group and some non-government association will help this MAY election make a CLEAN RESULT?

I don't believe it will be a CLEAN ELECTION this coming May 2007. Unless it will be computerized, I don't think the coming election will be fair. For sure, aspiring politicians will take advantage again of vote buying and vote rigging to the existing COMELEC primitive system. In order to have a clean and honest election, the Commission on Election should be overhaul first from top to bottom. Then, the primitive system of voting methodology should be change to a computerized reliable system. This system change will ultimately results to a fair, honest, and clean election. Want to know, there not doing this? Incumbent officials are insecured to be unseat by new one. Since, the old system is in favor for them, of its an advantage for them.

Very well said ryanbingo. Indeed a very concise and precise opinion. COMPUTERIZATION is one of the good resolution to rampant cheating.

Computerization of elections is no guarantee the exercise will be clean. Unless the operators of the machines cannot be bribed probably it will work. But knowing the cleverness of our politicians we cannot really help but doubt. You know its already embedded in voters' subconsciousness that Philippine elections is alwaus tainted with fraud.

Just like the past few elections that we had, no. These candidates and their lackies should be more God-fearing since they won't live forever and the power that they're vying for is just temporary.

Let us hope for the best but still I think there will be some glitches in this coming May election. I think if people would not buy votes why not it would be clean but if you buy then definitely it wouldn't. I must say it must be computerized so there will be no cheating.

Certainly true alchemistrx! Let us hope for the best and we should not let any politicians buy our vote. Let the changes begin on us. Computerization will be one of the key to lessen the rampant cheatings!

I don't think this election will be clean. With computerization or not.Even with computers, its definite that greedy people wanting positions in the government will try their best to win no matter what. And as early as december political killings are already rampant, thus giving us a perception that this election is just like with the same elections, bloody and unruly. Not to mention the overflowing money that will be released to buy votes, turn down opponents and publicize the "PROJECTS" of this so called "CARING" people that will run for office. I will not be surprised if in the coming months, kidnappings will soon occur. Tsk..tsk...poor economy will soon be coming in after the elections...know why? Its the same old story, when a new elected official comes into office, they will say there are no budgets since their predecessor already spent it..LOL.

no, just like any other elections, there would always be someone who would try to cheat just to win... i think both the administration and opposition will do something for their advantage, although it seems like the administration has more edge since they have power and control...

How can it be clean when the administration has already been plotting how to win in worst case scenario the votes go down....I won't expect a clean election.

I think this question can be best answered through a question also: Since when did the elections in the Philippines? Haha. Considering that even the highest office get involved with election scandals and controversies, I don't think there will be a chance for a clean election. Also, everybody craves for power so one will do everything, cheating on elections included, to get that power.

I don't believed that this May Elections will be considered clean elections .Massive vote buying will still be evident and some extrajudicial killings will also be rampant, with all things that are happening with our country today do you think we can still have clean elections. Too many political parties , too many dishonest government officials , I think they will surely do anything just to win even if they buy votes or kill people just to retain their post.

Yes I do agree with you deane, for now it is still hopeless to have a clean election. They are the same greed government officials who are abusive of thier power and certainly do anything in thier power to retain in position. But I won't lose hope that someday this dirty tricks and cheatings will be part of our political history and the real change will happen. (hope we are still there to witness it LOL!)

Haha no way can we have clean elections this May. While campaigns to have such are aplenty, the NGOs and religious groups can only do so much. Ultimately, the power rests on the administration. And we know very well how the administration is.

Let me add, why are they dally dallying the implementation of computeratized voting? They already got ample time to take action on it since the last election was like few years ago already. They can't do "dagdag - bawas" anymore with the computers right? So maybe when that will be implemented, cheating will probably minimize.

Nope this may would be another election that would definitely be as dirty as before.I have stopped voting since Estrada run for presidency..call me a bad filipino but I just lost faith in our government.I live in a small town but the people sitted in office here are questionable..so i dont think this may would be a different one.

I've been living in the Philippines for 23 years and I think when it comes to election there is no such as CLEAN ELECTION called. I've only voted twice and haven't been tried to be paid by politicians unlike what I heard on some other word of mouths.A long as their are money involved in any election and as the saying goes that money is the root of all evil so I would really say that there is no such as clean election exists nowadays.

I woudl personally would like that to happen but then in our country it is always the idea that all losers are cheated and they would always file cases to COMELEC to protest their defeat. It is hard to say that it would be clean or not. From what I know there isn't a clean election here in out country since no one wants to lose and no one learned to accept their defeat in the process so it always makes the election dirty and full of controversies that I do not know when it will end.

I doubt that there will ever be a clean election as long as the cheaters and hoodlums remain in public office. Why does one run for public office anyways? Majority of them craves to be in power to serve not the Filipino people, but their growing self interests. Why would anyone in his right mind bother himself with the problems of the country and try to solve it by running for for public office, when there are a lot of ways to help the country? You cannot get into politics and not get your hands stained in the process. Although there are also a few of them who would like to serve the country out of the genuine goodness of their hearts, it is sad that unless they stay firm to stand by their principles, they will be eventually swayed to join the rest who muddle in the political pigpen.

In my opinion, the fact that we Filipinos are tired of the TRAPOS, I believe that this time we could have a fair and clean election. it may not be perfectly clean, but at least there would be alot of people that will look after our ballots. And i know these time voters would be much more wiser, after knowing the "HELLO GARCI" incident.

There is no hope that may election will be a clean one for thier are lots of trapos who aimed to be sitted still in power and will do anything to remain on power.
