Does it annoy you when.....

...you're sitting in the cinema watching a movie and somebody behind you starts kicking your chair (I mean repeatedly kicking it), or puts their feet up on it? What do you do? I am absolutely SICK of it. Why do they do it? Why do some people HAVE to kick the chair in front of them? I think it has to be one of the most IGNORANT things anyone can do. It definately goes to show their lack of consideration and respect for those around them. I usually just look around and glare at them when they kick my chair, but they really don't seem to know why I'm glaring at them. Oh, and while on the subject of cinemas, why are some people such pigs leaving popcorn and sweet wrappers strewn all over the place? It's disgusting.

I know I should actually tell them to stop, but then I worry that they'll do it even worse. I suppose there are people like that you know?

Some people are stubborn like that, and will do it worst after you ask them to stop.

ha-ha I do "the glare" too, and will ask after perhaps 2 glares. I have no idea why they do the rubbish thing it's just selfish and lazy, I would never do that we put ours in the bin on the way out.

MaryAnne, maybe you can do a really scarey glare. I think I probably just look like a clown when I glare because sometimes they start laughing. rainbow, I can't understand why people don't use the bins at all. I see very few people bringing their rubbish out of the cinema.

There are lots of films showing in the cinemas that I would love to see, but the thoughts of somebody kicking my seat or munching popcorn beside just puts me off going to see them. Now I just wait until the film comes out on dvd and sit and watch it in the comfort of my own home. What's even worse is somebody kicking the seat while travelling on a plane. Now, whenever possible, I travel by ferry. That way, I can walk around or move to a different area. I wonder if anybody has any good ideas on how to stop the seat kickers. I feel like nailing their feet to the floor.

Nailing their feet to the floor is mild compared to what I want to do with them. I'd love to give them a few good kicks myself. If this happened on a plane I'd bring it to the attention of the air hostess. They're trained to deal with these things.

I rarely have this problem, but people who kick my seat on purpose usually stop fairly quickly. There's been times when they did it while the lights were still on, and turning around with a dirty look was enough to make them stop. If the lights were off and they couldn't see my face, just turning around and leaning over, then whispering, "Stop f'kin kicking my seat. This is your first and last warning." also did the trick. So far, there's been only one case when I had to use physical violence. I bet that one learned his lesson too! I suppose it's the advantage of being a man, and that ladies may find it difficult to react like this. And I also agree that people dropping wrappers and other rubbish on the floor whereas bins are avalable is an absolute disgrace. Individualism has become such that hardly anyone respects public places anymore. Sad world...

It's at times like that, that I wish I was a man Thomas. I don't think that an angry woman is half as frightening as an angry man.

My husband and I recently went to the cinema to see "Night at the Museum"... not because we especially wanted to see that particular film but just because we hadn't had a night out in a long time and it was playing 5 minutes from our house. There was a group of teenagers that were incredibly rude and disruptive. They talked and laughed all through the previews but I figured no one's especially interested in those LOL But, when the movie started, they didn't quiet down. They were talking, laughing and playing with their cell phones. Then, the girls started running back and forth from our cinema to the next one where a group of boys were watching "Rocky Balboa." After that, several of them decided to go in and out for snacks. A few people spoke out, "Please be quiet!!" but nothing changed. A woman sitting with her friend in a row across from us went and got the usher. He came in and basically just stared at the group (who was then pretending to be transfixed by the screen!). As soon as he left, they started up again. Between the adults, including my husband, I think no less than 5 trips were made to get the manager, who finally pulled a couple of the worst offenders out completely. Once they got tossed out, the rest of the group watched the movie. I have young teens, myself, and I know that kids their age get blamed for a lot that might not necessarily be their fault... but this group WAS awful. I truly hope that my girls never act like that when they are out in public... if they did, I would certainly expect them to be reprimanded.

It is so annoying when a person does that.....yet alone sitting by someone who talks while the movie is playing..or when people bring babies to the movies and the child is crying threw the entire film...then when u say something they look at u like u are crazy...and want to pick a fight with u...and lets not talk about the trash that some people leave behind on the seats and sometimes on the floor....gross...i am sick of it to bittybiddy...

Oh yeah, I hate that too when some child cries all the way through the film. I think that's happened twice to me. I was also in the cinema one day when a guy decided to have a really loud phone conversation. I couldn't believe that one.

i easily get irritated when someone who sits at my back keeps on kicking my chair in a cinema. i can't concentrate on what i am watching and i get really annoyed! what i do is turn around to the person and ask him to stop kicking my seat. people's common sense these days are no longer common. they are hard to find! and i hate it! i always believe that cinemas should be clean and that if you bring your popcorn and drinks with you in the cinema, it's also your responsibility to throw them in the garbage cans which are also located in the cinema's vicinity. if only we do our part, everything will be easier.

Well, when you talk about common sense like that I belive you. I think there is something missing in these "seat-kickers". How can they not know that what they're doing is extemely annoying? I share your opinion on the garbage.

LOL Gabs. Usually my kids go running if they get one of my glares. It just doesn't seem to have the same effect on chair kickers. It's definatley a much better idea to sit at home and watch a film in comfort. At least you can pause the movie if you need a bathroom break, or a few munchies. :)

People can be just mean. Normally we sit pretty much alone. If need be we would move talking about being bumped and how aggrevating it is and since we were there for the movie jumping chairs would be better than getting upset over someone mean. really!!! Trashing the place is so inconsiderate too. I have taught my kids to take out what we carry in. Makes their job easier number one! Hope you don't encounter those people again and that your next movie experience is totally positive!!

Oh I've had my share of those in my life. Usually I'll give them a look and if they keep doing it I try to move if I can. Making a scene won't help and with how angry some people can be it can actually make it worse. Then again usually when I go to the movies they aren't crowded so there is plenty of room to spread out in. It amazes me how people will do that with their trash. Now yes back when I was growing up most theaters did not have trash containers at the exits. Today though they do and people should use them. It makes it far better and easier. That way others don't have to worry about knocking them, making more of a mess or worse stepping in them as they come in for the next movie. Pick it up and throw it out, it's not that hard.
• Ireland
31 Jan 07
Yeah, it's easier to move, I suppose, than start an argument in the middle of the cinema. You never know what way people will react these days. Our local cinema has huge big rubbish bins standing outside the door of each screen, but I seem to be the only one that uses it. When I first met my husband he didn't use it either. I wasn't long getting him out of that habit.

LOL! I think I'd laugh at the slurping to be honest, so long as they didn't do it all the way through the film.

it is sometimes difficult for some people to sit still while wathing movies in cinemas.this may be due to thir being exited or mannerisms they have lerant while still in their younger years. the best thing to do in this situation is to politely ask the person to stop the leg kicking,or better, you could change the seat if there are empty seats around. the pop corn-dirt-leaving ones are just not in the mood to help in maintaining a clean environment.they believe someone is payed to do the job.

Sit in the back row, or the row just in front of an aisle. Then no one can kick your chair. i agree it is annoying, but I can't say it has happened to me in a theatre... on an airplane, YES it happens all the time.

I know what you mean, that simply drives me nuts too. I turn around once, or maybe twice and give a look, but I won't do more than that. You're right, they probably haven't a clue why you're upset. In this day and age it's probably a little dangerous to tick off somebody just because of that. You could end up with gum, popcorn, (or something worse) in your hair if they want to be mean about it. If it bothers me real bad, I'll look around for another seat and move. I wonder too about why people have to make messes and leave them there for others to clean up. Somebody didn't teach them any better, or they just don't care period. How about the ones seated behind you who spill their pop on you and can't even say oops, I'm sorry?!

Oh, that drives me absolutely crazy. First, I'll usually push my seat back by really leaning into it and see if they notice or care. Then, I'll turn around and glare. Finally, I'll ask them to stop.

It also annoys me when the people behind me pull my hair. The chair kicking is bad enough. I usually turn around and tell them to please stop. That doesn't work very often though. Just leaving your seat, you step over soda cups, popcorn containers. Such a mess! I start out being polite, but if they keep kicking or pulling my hair I tend to get a bit testy.

Yes, it is really annoying to me if someone kicking my chair when I am watching a film. I dont want to be disturbed when I am enjoying my time watching TV. Some people may kick our chair unconsciously, we just have to give him/her an hello and ask them to stop the kicking... but some people would not listen to you and keep on kicking. It is really disgusting..

Usually, I'll give the kicker the benefit of the doubt, that they don't realize they are tapping their foot or whatever. If they keep doing it, I will turn around give a little smile and raise my eyebrows and then point at the back of the seat. If they keep doing it, I will turn around and actually say "Could you please stop kicking my seat?" and add a little glare for good measure. If they still do it, I will get up, give them a dirty look, and move to another seat.-Hopefully without disturbing too many other people. I always take my trash out with me, usually, I snuck in the snacks to begin with, so it only seems right ;-)
