Okay. You guys know how when you have pages opened and you don't wanna open too many tabs or pages? Like if I have my gmail account opened and I feel like surfing myspace, I'll just type myspace's URL without signing out. Do you sign out first or do you do it the way I do? I usually open about 2-3 IE but use the tabs instead so that everything's neat and tidy. Does it affect anything if I do not sign out first? I've been doing this all my life but someone commented saying that I should always sign out. He says that if I don't someone will be able to log into my account. But I'm the only one that uses this notebook, I do not log on from cybercafes and such. I don't think it's a big problem, do you?

I normally sign out from all the places that require login.. I think in terms of security that is the best practice.. accordingly to my husband (a genius in these type of things, in my opinion), it's like leaving ur front door open for anyone to enter. It does not matter that u only uses the laptop, or you do not log on from cybercafes. The laptop is yours but all ur online accounts are "online" so the door is "online".. I always say prevention is better than cure.. in fact i got my yahoo account hijacked despite my obssesed nature of logging out.. Cheers

I'll keep in mind to log out of sites like my online banking account and such. But the emails, they're not affected in anyway?

If you are talking about reusing a web page rather than opening a new browser page then do be careful, it is possible for the websites you visit one after another on the same browser to read what websites you last went to ... you are leaving a trail of data that can be read and your surfing tracked ...

yeah. i don't think its a big problem if you use a personal computer. but if you log in into a computer cafe, you SHOULD log out before moving to another page because you might forget to log out.

I sign out of "sensitive" sites, such as my bank account. Other sites such as forums I usually leave logged in so I don't have to do it every time I visit. If I'm at work however I sign out of *everything*, since anyone could be using the PC after me! There have been occasions where I go into the PC room and can still get right into someones EBay account and bid if I chose to, as they haven't logged out. Scary really. Nick

I usually don't sign out either. Once you close your browser it usually signs you out anyway. I look at it this way .. If I am on the computer anyway why should I log out? The reason they recommend signing out is so others can't see your stuff. If you don't have that issue I wouldn't sweat it.

I don't sign out from pages, I just move on. Most of what I do is from my main computer anyway, which only my husband and I use, and I have a firewall, etc.

The only time I sign out is when I use the library's computer. Other then that I just open a new window like you do. When I have my computer I'm the only one that uses it so I have no need to sign out and it's faster the next time I go back to that page.

Well since you are the only one using your notebook then I see no harm at all. I don't think you will have log in problems or anything, atleast I haven't had any. Nowadays I don't log off from gmail at all since I like to keep track of who is starting discussions here on myLot.Since I get a mail notification I'll know immediately. I keep flipping between yahoo mail, mylot and other sites.

I've been doing that too but I am confident that I am the only one who's logging in to my account. Anyway I am always at home whenever I surf myLot so I don't have any problems with that. One more thing, I use Mozilla Firefox so I usually open multiple tabs in one internet window.

I do exactly what you do. I open everything in tabs and when I go off the computer I sign out then. I only have a few sites with information that's so important I don't want anyone to get access and my bank account is one of them. So other than that it's more like oops I forgot to sign out ooh well. You know?

For me, I always sogn out because even though I am the prime user of this PC, my brothers sometimes use it so I always log-out. For me, it is necessary to sign out because I do not want them reading nay of my mails or accessing my account without any permission. But in your case, maybe the person who told you sign out is just concerned that there will come a time that someone might borrow your notebook so it just fair to take precautions.

basically signout is necessary in cyber cafes wen we go der and do logins and not required for the private computers in residence. its generally require in cybers . secondly its important because its necessary to delete the temp file created by those website servers in our local servers. by signout which server gets noticed and it becoomes helpful for them to remove that temp files and release the memory.
