I have posted a few gifts in a jar recipes earlier and thought you may be ready for a few more. These are great to keep on hand for your personal use or to give as gifts for just about any occasion. They are very frugal to make and are always well received. I like to keep some for myself to use when I am in a hurry for a meal for just me and my husband. Friendship Brownie Mix 1 C flour 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 2/3 C brown sugar 1/3 C unsweetened baking cocoa 1/2 C vanilla chips 1/2 C semisweet chocolate chips 1/2 C walnuts, chopped 2/3 C white sugar Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Layer the ingredients in a wide-mouth quart jar. Decorate jar and don’t forget to add this gift tag: Friendship Brownie Mix Combine contents of jar with: 3 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 2/3 cup vegetable oil. Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Bake at 350°F for about 35 minutes. ============================= Friendship Soup Mix 1/2 C dry split peas 1/3 C beef bouillon granules 1/4 C pearl barley 1/2 C dry lentils 1/4 C dried minced onion 2 tsp Italian seasoning 1/2 C uncooked long grain rice 1/2 C alphabet macaroni or other small pasta (can be put in a plastic sandwich bag to make it easier for the recipient to get out of jar. ( (I use spaghetti and break it into small pieces) In a 1-1/2-pint jar, layer the first eight ingredients in the order listed. Seal tightly. Yield: 1 package Decorate the jar and don’t forget the instructions on your gift tag: Friendship Soup Mix 1 package Layered Friendship Soup Mix 1 lb ground beef 3 quarts water 28 oz canned diced tomatoes, un-drained Carefully remove macaroni from top of jar and set aside. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, brown beef; drain. Add the water, tomatoes and soup mix; bring to a boil Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Add reserved macaroni; cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until macaroni, peas, lentils and barley are tender. Yield: 16 servings (4 quarts)

Thank you for the recipes. I have been hoping to see a soup in a jar recipe. Many gifts in a jar that I have given or received are cookies or sweet stuff. Beans can be bought for a song these days and make such a wonderful soup.

I have lots of recipes for soups in a jar. I love to give them when someone is cooped up in the house all winter. When I go to check on them, I take them a gift in a jar of soup and a gift in a jar desert.

Oh Anne, the friendship brownine mix looks fabulous! I am forever needing a little gift for someone and this is perfect! I am picturing ways to individualize the decorating to fit the occassion or the person. For instance, my daughters piano teacher, the gift tag could be cut out in the shape of a grand piano! A jar for my co-worker at the college could have a cloth and ribbon in our school colors with a gift tag in the shape of our mascot! thanks for these great recipes!

I do give gifts in a jar as Christmas gifts and they are always well recieved. My daughter just called the other day adn said "Mom, my cocoa jar is empty again". She expects them all to be refilled through out the year. LOL

Thank you for these recipes. My grandmother can not have the sweets usually given in jars and the soup will be good for her to fix when she is busy and not much time. One thing though, what is pearl barley and where can I find it?

Wow! I've seen a lot of these for cookies and brownies and such, but not for soup! What a neat idea! I'm going to have to give that a try. Our church is looking for some unique ideas to make and sell and both of these would be great. Thanks!

What a cute thing to make. I have a few friends who have birthadays coming up pretty soon. They all like things like this and I'm sure they'd enjoy this as a gift. I'm just going to have to find some nice jars to use and I'll be all set and have their gifts taken care of.

These are great!! Thanks-- I just checked out your profile and want to ask you to be my friend.. I find your discussions very interesting. I am copying this off for future reference.. I think the brownies would make a great teacher gift. Frugal and something my 10 year old could do herself- (Of course with me with her).. she loves to give things she makes herself... We did some of these a few years back for grandparents-- I however lost the recipe. Thanks again! These are great!
