Five skinny models barred from Madrid catwalk. Back to nature?

MADRID (Reuters) - Five models were declared too thin for the catwalk at this week's international designer show in Madrid, a doctor in charge of vetting them said on Sunday. "I don't like the extremely thin look and I think setting a limit is a good thing," Roberto Torreta, one of the designers taking part in the Cibeles show that starts on Monday, told state television. Do you think it will stop teens from weight obsession?

I am a skinny person but I was born that way and everyone in my family is skinny. I don't like to see people starve them selves though, since this means you are wasting food whereas other people have to struggle every day for a meal. I am skinny but I eat and take care of my health, those who don't take care of themselves always end up at the extreme points like too fat or too skinny - I can't stand them ruining their own health and look like that!

I am skinny and always been, but I look healthy. Funny thing, I am size 0, amd all this rummor was about size 0 models. I just find out that size 0 in america is size 4 in England.

Not really, we have size 00. Also, designers cloths are smaller. No wonder, they made it for super skinny models.

Thin models were just becoming fashion these day's and when young girls just tried following them by trying to become skin thin by eating less and some of them even reported to have got effected by health problems and all.Teenagers do get effected by watching thin models coming to limelight through media isn't it and i also think this decision of barring thin models is the right one as it might lead with an example of future acceptance of thin models isn't it?

Really skinny models don't look good anyway, so I am glad Spain is doing something about it. I think this sort of thing has to stop before these young women die from malnutrition. It is the designers who are responsible for this and THEY should be banned from the shows too if they don't design clothes for normal weight women.

i think that the new weight rules will help but in all honesty i dont think it will effect young girls that much as most look to the celebrities rather than the catwalk. young girls see the celebs all the time in the media but the catwalk girls are not on show as much we cannot expect these young girls to take any notice when people like victoria beckham go around in their size zero outfits and then try and claim that she wont have that size in her range of clothing its madness.

I don't think it will stop it but I'm sure it will influence and help in some ways, it might create some more awareness, and avoid models becoming bulimic or anorexic to get into modeling. It will definitely make if not at least a small impact.

models should be short and fat, give the rest of us some self confidence and happiness, most of them are so thin it looks horrible, I'd far rather be me - beachball shaped and happy, lol. It would be nice to think it might help our teenagers, it's so hard when you are young to tell the difference between looking good and looking so slim you are ill.

models are way to thin and most upchuck to stay that way . I would hope that teens dont go for the skinny stuff but excersize and stay fit keep in shope is all they need to look good Skinny thin like the models are isnt good for any one even themselves

I really hate this 'x-ray' thin look .. clothes don't look nice on such stick thin people and they look ill and haggard .. it certainly wouldn't tempt me to buy the clothes seeing them dragging off 'washing line' people .. we gotta have curves .. curves are sexy !

I hope so. It is alredy forbidden in Milano too, for models under maybe 50kgs??) take part on the shows. The mayor of Milano is a woman, and she would like to save the teens also in this way.

I think it's a step in the right direction. We still have a long way to go but it is a good step. If we get the modesl and actresses these kids see to be normal, healthy shapes it will encourage them to be like that. They won't feel inadequate if they are only five pounds too heavy. Yes girls are always going to worry about their weight or looks but we don't need to make it worse. We don't need to add to that pressure by constantly showing them unrealistic weighted women.

I've been to a fashion show .. a good one with lots of top models .. quite frankly they look ghastly .. pallid skin, and dearie my their bones could cut tough meat they stick out so far .. I called the x-ray people they were so thin .. And .. most importantly .. the clothes look dreadful on them .. they don't drape nicely .. they just hang as if they are on a washing line .. I happened to mention this to the man sitting beside me and he was shocked .. did I really mean that he asked .. I didn't realise until after the show was over and the celebs melted away that he was a top designer .. but he told my friend, who'd got me the tickets, that since the show he'd asked a lot of 'normal' people outside of the fashion world and apparently all answered pretty much the same .. that the clothes hung badly .. and looked really shapeless on the stick thin models ..

GOOD maybe he will take that heart and start finding models and designing clothes that are different! I would rather see a model who weighs about 125 who has boobs and hips that see a woman who weighs about 80 pounds who looks like a skeleton

i am so glad they are doign this. i get so tired of seeing these models looking so sickly. They say its because the clothes hang better..know why? because the women wearing them are like a clothes hanger....It is just down right nasty to see their jutting hipbones, their chestbones, their ribs..it is not natural! When women die just so they can be models...its not right

Teens will always follow the example set by models, movie stars, performers, and to a lesser extent sports stars, so I believe this is a step in the right direction.

I think it very important pay attention to models'health...the problem with those girls is not only the fact that they're thin or slim...a slim person could be an healthy person...the problem is that they are very tall and too slim according to their physical comformation...I think that this is the point to debate on and to clarify...people have not to be overweight nor under their best weight....there is a good weight that it is different for each person and depends on his height, physical comformation and so on...I hope correct information could reach wider diffusion as soon as possible...because our weight is part of our health

I find this very great. It's not normal how thin the models are sometimes. It isn't reality also. People thesedays are getting bigger. So I think the designers should be aware of that also. The clothes models ware look great on them but not on regular people. I hope this will be a start for a little bit normale figures at the zatwalk. I do think can help teens from their weight obsession but it will take a long time to do so.

ya a gr8 step...coz now a days the models in maintaing a slim figure just destroy their body......they dont take right balance of food and dieting and all that stuffs make them week....we all know health is wealth......so why to take our heaths for the sake of wealth?

What i would like to see even more is that women under 18 are banned from the catwalks. Apart from shows focusing on teenage clothing I see no reason why a 16 year old should show designs made for an adult.

Technically the models were found to be too unwell, not too thin. The thinness was the CAUSE of the lack of health though. This is the correct approach as to ban simply on grounds of appearance would be a step too far. If I were seriously underweight at work I'd be sent home as I'd be regarded as unwell. This ruling just shows fashion catching up with the rest of the world - and about time too!
