i ordered something from ebay a few weeks ago. the lady sent the package but the post office screwed it up completely. the package was coming from illinois and i live in illinois. the post office sent it to hazelwood, missouri for no reason. the second thing they told me it was delivered on sat. i didnt' get it and i asked my neighbors and they haven't seen anything and are also looking for a package. i called the post office and they told me i couldn't do anything about it. so basically they are telling me i lost $10. i think this is crazy. has anyone else had any problems with the post office? if so was it resolved and how was it resolved? thanks in advance.

My sister had the swame problem around christmas. She ordered something online. Had her correct address on it, when it got to the post office they sent it back to the company stating that there was no such address. She ended up calling the company and they sent it to her free postage via UPS. I know that most of my mail goes to my neighbor on another street Same sounding street name, different spelling. I get their mail all the time. Glad they pay these people good money...I guess what should we expect its a government job....

i think they need to pay them more so they'll do their job right. like they told the company your address didnt even exist. that's crazy. my street is a number so it's not like they can just mix it up unless they can't count. they need to get mail seperators so maybe they'll get it right. frustrating. thanks for responding

i don't trust the post office either. not anymore. i'm also going to use dhl and fedex from now on. it could be the package was stolen by the people at the post office in your country but in the US that would be a felony and they would lose their job plus jailtime. thanks for responding

Yes, but be careful. Just make sure that your package is boxed in front of you. My friend send a package sometimes ago, and the package was messed up. The officer of the Local FedEx did it before the put it in FedEx official box.

They can't really do anything about it and neither can you. Unless the person that actually received the item is nice enough to return it back to the sender theres basically no way to fix this problem. Every time I order something online or ship something to someone, I'm always worried about it being lost, stolen, or sent to the wrong address.

I don't think boycotting would work since the majority of shipments gets to the desire destination. It would just be a one man war sort of.

i hope it is returned to the sender if that is the case where they dropped it somewhere else. i am going to complain and try to get my package or my money back. then i'm going to boycott the post office for big packages. i'm sending a letter to the post master and i already sent an email to them regarding this. when the snow storm clears up then i'm going up there too. i'm not the only one in the apartment building with this problem. thanks for responding

My brother lives in the States and I know it always takes longer for parcels or letters to come from the states to Australia than the other way around. We do have our problems but usually Australia Post is pretty good.

"If you snooze you lose!". IN other words about dealing with the post office - if you didnt insure it - you cant deal with them.

I have yet to win a fight with the post office. With other comapnies you can complain and they will try to make you happy so they don't lose your business. The US post office doesn't seem to care that much, or at all sometimes. Packages have been dellivered to the wrong place and I just get a shrug and an apology, but little else.

the post office doesnt care because they know we have to use them as far as sending bills and letters. i didn't even get an apology yesterday. all she said is there's nothing else i can do. i'll try to get my package back the hardest i can. that's all i can do. thanks for responding

thanks for all the luck and i will use insurance and confirmation from now on. i've learned my lesson with the USPS. i think i'm going to use another company for a while until USPS straightens up. the only way i'll go back to them is if they find my books or refund my money. thanks again for the luck. i'll probably need it. since this is a lose lose situation for me.

I wish you the best of luck in solving your problem. I use delivery confirmation or insurance as much as I can because there is so little the post office can do to help you with regualr shipping items.

I think our postal service is not working efficiently any more. Back in the old days when you sent something, you knew it would get to the person you sent it to. It would only take a few days, too. Now it seems like it takes forever to get packages. I've gotten several letters lately that were all torn up and sent to me either in a plastic bag or in an envelope. I remember that used to happen like once in a lifetime. I don't have the trust in the postal service I used to have.

i also don't think it's working efficiently anymore. i wish it were like the old days so we wouldn't have to worry so much about receiving the package. it's like a guessing game anymore. i've also received a letter that was torn up. now it happens all the time. thanks for responding

That seems to be very strange. I am from Malaysia and I receive my packages intact from the USPS Global Priority Mail with precision even when it is not trackeable. I recently got GEM (Global Express Mail - trackeable via the USPS website) delivery and the package arrived right on schedule as per their website info! In fact, the last parcel I received arrived earlier than usual! Maybe you may have to use GEM for all your deliveries.

15 Feb 07
wow. maybe they treat the global mail better than US mail because they know americans have to use their mail system and you do not since you live in a different country. yea i tried to use that site but they didn't even have it on file for 4 days after it was sent out and they didn't update it for a week after that. i don't think GEM is for americans though. i'll check on that. thanks for responding

I never thought that USPS can be so awful.. But maybe your case is just one in a million. In Indonesia the Indonesian Postal Services id waaay more awful. My family who live in Holland send me a huge box of Beta Casettes (before VHS) and the packace arrive at my home about a month later and the package was half full. The Indonesian Postal Services Officer took them.

have the seller go to there post office and report it lost or damaged. ask the post office on ur end for proof of delivery. if in fact they delivered then there should be a signature for whoever signed for the pkg. also use ur traking number.

i think the seller contacted her post office a few days ago. they never have anyone sign for it they just drop it off on the porch. which i really don't like. i've tried using the tracking number but they say that they can't track it after it's been delivered. thanks for responding and i'll make sure the seller did report it lost or damaged.

We have the same problem with the post office in england. unless the package is sent recorded delivery there is no chance of tracking or recovering it. It is the sender who is the customer and not the receiver and the sender may be able to claim compensation.

I do not live in the states. I live in Canada, but a few years back I had a very strange experience with the post. My mom send me a package from Portugal for my birthday. Well I got it. It was my mom's handwriting in the package and it was the original packaging. The thing is that when I opened i found that it wasn't what my mom send me but a bunch of papers. Papers regarding some court case in the states that were addressed to a lawyer or a law company I don't remember anymore. What really got me was that.. it was my mom's original package. She described the box in detail and the paper where she wrapped it. ANd of course it was her handwriting and my correct address. How did that happen????????? I called the post office i was told to take the papers to them and that it would be forwarded to the person they were addressed to. So they did get their stuff. I never got mine!!!! WE couldn't do more tracing it. My mom is 84 years old, she forgets things. In this case it just a normal delivery package instead of a registered one so there was no tracing. But hey.. it was weird!

I have only had a few problems with USPS. Mainly with the amount of time it takes to get something. I do know that if you are ordering anything mail order (online, catalog, etc) unless you get it insured, the USPS says they are not responsible for any lost or damaged mail. When I use EBAY, I always insure the items whether buying or selling. When selling, it is required and when buying, if it is not offered I won't buy. Basically, as per USPS, no insurance equals your loss if you don't get the package. I was talking to Edward, my postal worker, and he told me that most of the mail is sorted by machines and that most postal workers don't even read the addresses. It is all presorted by zip code, then area, then street names and then numbers. So the postal worker just picks up the mail for his route which already sorted by street name and just looks at the numbers and if the numbers match, he drops it in your box. Thankfully, Edward takes the time to read the names and addresses so he corrects it when the mail is mixed up. I have also found that knowing your postal worker helps ensure you get your mail and packages. I make it a habit to give my postal workers cold water in the summer, hot coffee in the winter (hot chocolate for Edward), little gifts for every gift giving holiday and to ask after them if we have a sub. We never get mail for anyone else, we never get other people's mail that has our address on it, we ALWAYS get our packages regardless of where we order them from. My guy even makes special trips to my house after his normal route to pick up my shipments for my EBAY sells. Sometimes, it just pays to be a little friendly with your postal worker.

that is why the post office screws up the mail all the time. it's not sorted by people. that explains a lot of things but it doesn't make it right for them to use that as an excuse. that's good that your postal worker takes his time to look at the addresses/names. i wish i had a mailman like him. i have never even seen our mailman. not even once in 6 months that i've lived here. i'm sure it would help a lot. he is so nice. people need to be more like him. i'm gonna get a job at the post office lol. not really because i don't like cold weather at all and i hate snow. lol. maybe if i ever see the post man then i will be nice to him. thanks for the suggestion and the nice story of your postman.

I work for as a customer service rep for a company that does infomercials. We send pkgs thru the post office with tracking #s. I have seen pkgs sent from our warehouse in Ohio to Missouri. The pkg. made it to Missouri, but somehow the post office sent it on to California. I see stupid stuff from the post office every day. Of course, it is run by our government and they pay $30,000.00 for a hammer.

an acquaintance sent a package to his daughter in the united states, but was surprised that the item was returned to sender without any reason at all after just about a week! there was even no attempt to deliver it to the addressee. this friend tried to get in touch with that post office, and with our local post office here asking for refund. but it was never granted. sometimes, things like this make us wonder about the efficiency of the postal service. maybe it was an isolated case or something.

at least it was returned to the sender. they should have done more to get the package to her. that's about the same as my case. this is a bit more than isolated since i'm not the only one in the apartment building that has this problem. thanks for responding

well it is the sellers responsibility that you get it I would work with the seller to find out what happened. If that doesnt work then I would file a complaint with paypal. The seller needs to have better tracking or insurance on the item it is the responsibility of the seller. not the buyer. But try to work with the seller first. then file complaints if needed. dont leave feed back on the seller till this is resolved.

I would suggest you get back onto the E-Bay Seller, who originally sold you the item, and ask whether he has any claims on the post office. He may be able to help you. Other than that, I'm not sure what to suggest. This is surely a huge mess-up on behalf of the post office, and very frustrating that you've spent $10 on something which you never received! I hope you can get somewhere with the Seller. Good luck and brightest blessings.

i contacted the seller regarding the item and she checked with paypal and paypal tracked it to missouri. she also contacted her post office and they don't know about it since my post office was the last to handle the item. yea it is a big mess up by the post office. this has happened to me before. $10 is ten dollars and i want to receive something for the money i spent. i don't just give money away. thanks so much for your response, luck and blessings. i will greatly need it.

I always pay a bit extra to have a tracking added on to it, so they can track it's where abouts. One time they did the same thing, sent it to the wrong address for no reason, but I had a copy of the receipt that clearly showed where it was to go. It took them 2 weeks but they finally got it and forward it to it's address. The post office is full of croocks, so I a try to get insurance when ordering products.

Oh dear I know what you mean and while I had problems, sending our daughters birthday present to her from Parkes, in the country side to Killara in Sydney, I also registered this parcel for her but you know that she never even received a notice that it was there until 3 weeks later I did phone them and go down and check where it was it was at a different post office 50 miles away, anyway they sent it on and she received it and told me not to complain as she was never receiving her mail on time and it would only make it worse if I complained about it.
