This is 9 minutes long but an excellent lesson on all aspects of this ergonomically helpful style. http://whipup.net/ go to the entry for 17th February. let me know if you enjoy. My grandmother used to knit this way:)

I keep meaning to have a go at continental knitting but I was taught to knit the old fashioned way with one needle clamped under my arm, I can usually knit one handed that way, and I find it so fast and can use my free hand to do useful things like hold a mug of tea! So far I havent been persuaded that changing styles would be a good thing, but I'm always game to try new things

I too learnt to knit with one needle under the arm, it certainly makes it easier to not bump into things, and is an excellent way to knit when riding a bus or train where space can be cramped. I doubt I'd be able to change the style of knitting Im used too, somethings you can change but a knitting style, once your so comfortable and natural with it, I doubt it could be done another way. I couldnt get into the website to have a look. It could be my compter (its due to visit the recycling centre shortly if it doesnt make it to the fire first)....

Wow, that's cool. I've always been a "thrower" because my hands cramp when I try to knit continental style. I think I'll try again, this is a little different from what I tried. Thanks for posting this!

Glad you thought it was of value:) I knit sort of conventionally but I don't "throw" - I loop with my forefinger only - the hand and arm doesn't move, HA HA does that make sense?

wow this looks really cool i have never even heard of knitting continental style i have always just knitted and pearled but this style looks really awesome and like something i would really like to learn to do too bad i just do not have alot of time to dedicate to knitting and learning new ways to knit things but that is good that is way is better for your hands because even though i am young i have popped my knuckles alot and have slight arthitis in my fingers and knuckles
