Unique combinations in everyday life

Hot Chocolate and Creamer - A yummy combination, have you tried it before?

Today, as I grabbed some French Vanilla Creamer to put in my Hot Chocolate, I wondered if anyone else has done this before? I mean, you use it for Coffee, so why not Hot Chocolate? I do this b/c Hot Chocolate made with water isn't quite thick enough for me. We all have unique "recipes" we make in everyday life, what are yours? Besides putting Creamer in my Hot Chocolate, I also enjoy what some consider weird soda combos - like Sprite mixed with Hi-C fruit punch. I like this because Sprite is boring alone, but the fruit punch is too sugary alone. What recipes do you use in life that are unique? and why did you start doing it that way?

I like French Vanilla in hot cocoa, and I also like whipped cream and/or a dash of mint. Some people like cinnamon. It's all a matter of taste.

I love Whipped Cream! I wish we had some at work b/c I'd add that every day. You know what, I might buy a can and keep it in the fridge at work just for that purpose :) Sounds great!

Sometimes, I will put plain potato chips on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I've also made cream cheese and olive (the green olives with the pimentos) sandwiches on rye. They are quite tasty! I don't remember who told me about putting chips on peanut butter and jelly and my Mom used to make Dad the cream cheese and olive sandwiches. She also used to make peanut butter and banana sandwiches with mayonnaise. Not like Miracle Whip but real mayo. Really good! Don't know if that's considered unique or not?!

I like cream cheese, but not olives, so maybe I'll just say cream cheese on Rye does sound good :) I seem ot hear the PB and Banana a lot lately, but it's still unique to me b/c no one I know does this!

I like fruit juice or nectar with Kool-aid and sprite. I like vodka kahlua and milk with a dash of Irish Cream mixed in. I like pineapple papaya juice with sprite or 7 up. my fiancee likes sweet potatoes with butter and sour cream. I like horchata with milk or coconut milk or even extra pinapple.

You're the second person who mentioned kool-aid. I gotta buy me some packs of that next time I go to the store because that is an easy and yummy addition to most drinks. Thanks for the interesting drink combos, i like coconut so I might check that out. :)

I don't even know what horchata is, which is why I didn't comment on that last part of her post :) What is it?

Wow! I love horchata, too. Too bad that I think it is pretty rare where I am from (I drank it in Spain when I was studying abroad there). Yummy and I know it would taste wonderful with extra milk and pineapple :) Pablo

I have actually done that. I don't think there is anything wrong with putting creamer in hot chocolate. The vanilla flavored creamer actually give it a better taste. Instead of it just being hot chocolate now it is now vanilla hot chocolate. It actually taste really good.

Yeah it was really good, although some people looked at me weird the first few times they saw me doing it :) Now people are starting to come around and realize it does taste good!

What you need to add to hot chocolate is peppermint schnapps. Now that is hot chocolate. lol\

Try it with the Cinnaman Hazelnut too. Yummy. Also there is out right now a carmel toffee one that is delicious, but it is getting really hard to find because it was only out for the holidays. I bet that one would really be good in the hot chocolate! I mix pepsi and milk, love it. My youngest son has to have jellyfish sandwiches, tuna with grape jelly. I can't even try it!

We actually have that cinnamon flavor in our cafeteria too and I've been thinking about trying it. A lot of times though, once I find somehting I like I must have exactly that. Today I used 2 packs of the french creamer :) Really good! Pepsi and milk is interesting, I think someone could DARE me to try that but at the moment I don't know if I'd like it. Tuna and Grape Jelly - sounds like something a pregnant woman would want! But I'm with you on this one, I wouldn't try it.

Yea! I remember milk and Pepsi, too. I did that a long time ago, but I didn't like it. Maybe I didn't put enough Pepsi? I put half milk into the glass and then half Pepsi. Perhaps the combination was not enough? Pablo

I too use strange combinations sometimes, in my food. Once I was sipping tea, while I was doing my dinner, which is not natural. At that time I was having rice, with pulses, and fish curry. By no way, tea goes with it, but still I enjoyed the cup. Then one day, while I was having lunch with dal and rice, I couldn't find a suitable fry to eat with it. Then I ate two orange cream biscuits with it. This one too, was a peculiar combination, and I think no one had tried it before.

Those are different combos. Sometimes I must have a certain drink with my dinner because for some reason it just tastes good together. A lot of times when I'm out to eat I'll want to order two things that don't even go together simply because I'm in the mood for both :) Turns out pretty good most of the time. Thanks for sharing :)

You are right on about the creamer in the chocolate. It is soooo good! Wanna have a blast? try 1/2 coffee, 1/2 cocoa then add your creamer. I usually have a creamer in the fridge, different flavors all the time...really perks up those drinks. As far as a twist on recipes: yesterday we made or tried to make potato salad but the potatoes got over cooked. So we just mashed everything and called it mashed potato salad..we liked it. Thanks for this discussion.

You know I should try that b/c we have free coffee here too. I could make my hot cocoa, then add coffee. Maybe not 1/2 coffee, just a little taste! I really could use that little extra energy on most days. Great idea!! That sounds fun, mashed potato salad :) Sometimes the best recipes come from mistakes like that! Thanks for sharing.

That sounds so good and think of the possibilities1 As a child I would add Mt. Dew to my red kool-aid and now they sell the code red and it tastes the same. Not as good as when I was given this special treat as a kid, but still good! I also have eaten Doritoes using chocolate ice cream as dip. It really os good even if it sound wierd1

Yeah red kool aid with Mountain dew does sound a little tastier than Code Red :) I'm not sure about the doritos and ice cream though! I couldn't combine those two flavors. My fiance said he used to like to dip doritos in sour cream, that doesn't sound good to be though.

you could make your hot chocolate with milk. it works really well. i haven't tried the french vanilla creamer in my hot chocolate but i'll try it sometime. to see how it tastes. i like dipping steak in sour cream. it's really good. i don't eat steak often but if i do it has to be with sour cream. i think that's all i do right now.

I can't make hot chocolate with Milk at work, b/c there is no milk at work. However Hot water is free :) so that's the only reason I use water. At home I always use milk. I don't eat steak, but even when I did that sounds different! Thanks for your thoughts :)

Grape juice and 7up is very good. I already put in my hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps.

That does sound good. Grape juice alone can be too sweet, but adding a little 7up would definitely make it yummy. Good suggestion.

interesting.I found that if I mix the creamer with warm water and let it get cold in the fridge,it makes a good non dairy milk for cereal as my grandaughter is vegan and won't accept animal milk.

Good idea. I had some vegan friends in HS who would never drink milk and I'd always wonder how they would eat cereal. I didn't like Soy Milk at all, but this sounds like a more yummy option!

With no offense to you or anyone it applies to, I offer this. Admittedly, as a male I cannot totally grasp the concept of the WHY of this, but do understand on some level how Hormonal waves effect pregnant women. I think the greatest example of "Combinations" or food preferences, manifests itself during a pahse of pregnancy, maybe not quite understood even by the individula having the "Cravings" BUT one has to admit, some are extreme or abstract, and usually humorous, AFTER the fact. Example: I suspect a woman might never before,,,or after, a pregnancy, decided that a NEED was to dip Pickles into Chocloate, or peanut butter, and eat that, to satisfy some confusing craving.

Well I'm not pregnant, I just like weird combos! I do know though that many women want crazy things when they are pregnant. Things I can't even think about eating together, I might totally want if I was pregnant. I haven't experienced that yet so we'll see :)

My wierdest combination is french fries and paremesan cheese. It started way back when I was a pre-teen. My dad was a coach for my brother's baseball team so after every game, we would go to the local pizza place. I always had my mom order me a side of fries. I put excessive amounts of parmesan cheese on my pizza so naturally it would overflow on to my fries and thats how my combination got started. I also dip my fries in mayonnaise, but I hear thats not so unusual in other countries!!

I have heard of people dipping them in mayo, but never heard the parmesan cheese thing. That does sound good and it makes sense too b/c they do sell french fries smothered in cheese in some restauarants, but I think parmesan cheese would be better than the ones I've seen.

Great topic, viva. I've never done this, but it sounds really good! However, my favorite "odd combination" is that I always put peanut butter on my waffles.
