If I remember right, the point before you can copy and paste on Mylot is 500 posts.I haven't reached even my 60th post on Mylot and I answered to a discussion a few minutes back where I successfully copy pasted a url.I have no idea how it worked for me.Have any of you experienced this before reaching your 500th post? Has the limit been diluted or did I know wrong about the copy paste limit? I am a little amused right now and Trust me I am not lieing .

I guess there must be some kind of lower limit on the amount of text in the buffer that activates the "no copy/paste" message. As someone else pointed out, it can be easily bypassed by anyone who understands how to work around javascripting. I am not sure what the big deal with not being able to copy and paste is. The only time I have found it annoying have been the half-dozen times I wanted to grab a quote (with proper attribution, of course) from my quotes file, and add it to a response because it seemed to add emphasis to the answer I'd just written. I also have a habit of copying long reponses in input boxes so I still have all the text if there's some bug on the page that causes the message to be lost. So far, that has been a problem precisely TWICE in 400+ posts I've written... and whereas I sent a bit of purple prose in the general direction of myLot's developers, I pretty quickly forgot and moved on. I also don't see myself suddenly starting to copy and paste a bunch of stuff, just because I suddenly reach 500 posts.

Yes,I'd have wanted to use the option to the same effect, having long responses before me while replying.I don't really miss the c-p option .It's just that I was little excited to get it when I was at my 60th post as I wasn't expecting it then. Thus, wanted to know why I was favoured,If I can call it that. It's quite evident that you are a writer.(Had visited your profile earlier). Thanks for contributing to this thread.

I'm way beyond 500 posts already and I haven't copy pasted so far. I thought of copy pasting before but it's more on responding to same discussions posted by different users. After responding to one, it's a lot easier to just copy your first response rather that doing it all over again everytime. I posted a discussion on this before and people said, I should rather play it safe and just type it again with few rewordings. I enjoy typing anyway, so it's not really a big deal. The problem is after responding to 3 similar discussions, I began to lose interest in responding to other similar ones.

I see your point.Excessive repetition of discusions makes it stale and takes the fun out of posting.I have a hunch that I am going to be lucky with having great discussions to choose from.

Yes you can copy/paste short items. I have done lots of URL's and have not gotten in trouble yet. This is not a Copywrite violation, so go for it. When I was at 100 something there was a lot of copy/paste of others responses. I was in the habit of copying a comment in a thread I had, and pasting in the box so I could see what was said. Then I would delete it after I wrote my comment. I forgot to delete one time. Then I told on a discussion that I could do it even though my # was low, and I didn't mean a couple of words but whole responses. About 2 days went by and it no longer worked. I was not upset, because I should not have been able to do it anyway, and The cheaters slowed way down also. If me losing the option meant that the cheaters could also no longer do this I was glad to give it up. The person I was doing this with told me she does the same but uses the notepad so that is what I do now also. I hate to respond to a comment and all I can see at the answer box is the response. I have a short memory, so I need some way to see their comment or I forget. I always cpy/paste URL's unless they are short ones as I type slow and poorly, so it is a big help.

I still use the notepad if I need to. It is better than the small space on the comment box!

This is exactly one of the reasons why I was happy to know I could use the c-p option,to have the reply before me so I didn't miss something while answering back.Yep,I could use the notepad option for now,as you suggested. Thanks :-)Also, the part explaining why this option was withdrawn helps me understand it.Kudos to you!

Personally I am not a rule limit pusher so if someone tells me this is the rule then I just take it a face value. So I never tried to copy and paste, before 500. However, I will caution you that MyLot does have rules and even though it would seem impossible for them to enforce them somehow they do. If you get caught breaking the rules I believe you are tossed out and will lose any earnings you have accumlated. Just a thought.

Yeah,I too am a sticker when it comes to rules and what I pasted was only a url about male pregnancy.I was so into my post that I didn't remember I can't paste.Even when my reply had gone through I didn't realise that it worked. It was only while revisiting the discussion I responded to that I was kindof thrilled to learn that I could paste. However, thanks for the reminder. I have motor fingers when it comes to using the keyboard .So,the only thing I would use the copy paste function for is to keep my post from getting lost and not breaking any rules. So far I have broken none.Just my thoughts. Thanks for responding :-)

Yes, copy paste for a few words does exist. However, in case of whole paragraphs it is not possible and you will become frustrated trying to copy paste again and again until you give up. However, the copy paste limitation can be bypassed easily and any computer science software professional can easily bypass this security. It just requires simple common sense that's all till then continue punching the keyboard fast. Best of luck mate!

Ah,that explains it.Yeah,it worked for a name and an url.So, it should be just as you put it.For a moment I had the illusion that today is a lucky day for me and was planning to do a jig, lol.Anyways,I type pretty fast so I don't have a need to breach the rule. It's just that I am so used to copy pasting when using my pc that it's easy to forget that I have some way to go before I can copy paste here and it's only so responses don't get lost while submitting the replies. Thanks for taking the time to explain it!

Just remember the rules of copyright if you DO cut & paste - if you are using content from websites you need to ask permission of the website owner first and ALWAYS credit your source of the information with a link. I get totally hacked off if I find the content of my website plagiarised without my permission and no credit given - it happens all the time on various sites (here once that I know of, countless times on eBay). So please everyone - bear these points in mind and don't trample over other people's copyright - just because words and photographs are in the public domain they're not usually available for public use unless they've been declared copyleft or copyright free. What's wrong with writing your own stuff anyway?

Fair enough, I wasn't accusing you of copyright theft. However, regular breach of copyright that does go on here. I actually joined Mylot after receiving an alert that my website had been plagiarised. Four paragraphs of information lifted without my permission and no link. Regardless of what Mylot's rules are, copyright is another issue altogether and one that I don't think many people understand. Just thought I'd use your thread to highlight it. Regards,

Sorry to know that you were a victim of copyright theft.I've seen that happen to several sites ,especially, when it comes to photos, more than content.Someone had put up a good explanation about it : It's like neighbours stealing electricity by hooking wires into your grid and you having to pay for their consumptions.Won't find any in my posts though. Thanks for responding.

Nothing wrong there. If you had known the context then perhaps you'd have known why I copy pasted. It was a topic about male pregnancy and it wasn't the content but only a url( link to website ) that I copy pasted .In normal circumstances I'd have remembered that I am not allowed to copy paste but this was a rarity and I don't think Mylot has any problem with copy pasting unless it's abused.

Well this copy and paste business is beyond my understanding,However you broke one rule and openly admitting it to. Hope it does not reach the administrator's eyes.

wow,I don't think I broke any rules and if I did I would always be the first one to admit it.What I copy pasted was a reference link(url) to substantiate my response and Mylot encourages that. Thanks for responding:)

Yes, I can use copy and paste function when the number of characters is small. But I think we cannot do it in IE, but only in firefox, is it the case? It seems that you cannot copy and paste even for a single character in IE.

Hi xeron, I didn't try it before with IE because I hardly use it.I did it for one url in firefox.Just tested it for IE after reading your response and you are right. It's only possible with Firefox. Thanks for bringing this to my knowledge!

I was able to do this before my 500 also. Sometimes it worked but not all of the time. Once I even got a photo in someone else's discussion. I think it may just be a glitch in the system,

Bluewings.... so sad you remain a simple earthling, i have seen many copy master's in this board, (who have less than 500 posts) and have posted entire articles...LOL. Ha ha ha So, my original "Mylot Vinci Code" challenge stands unchallenged. So, its time to shoot arrows in the dark dear earthling Bluewings.

Lol, I've never had that work for me before I reached 500 posts. There were times when I tried to copy and paste an URL without thinking and then got brought back to earth with a bump when I got the little screen telling me that I needed to reach 500 posts before I could do that. I think you're very lucky lol.
