Do you think we use too much plastic?

Plastic is made from oil, and the world's oil reserves are running out. How is it then, that more and more stuff is packaged in plastic, which has no further use, and often can't be recyled, after it's done its work as packaging. Do you think this is terribly wasteful?

I agree with you. I try to avoid plastic as much as possible, but sometimes it's hard to do.

It would be good to start a campaign, perhaps, to outlaw plastic. But what sorts of things could we replace it with?

I tyhink it is a great material. Yes it maybe made from oil but I think every kind of plastic can be recycled. It may not always happen but that's the idividuals choice. If we stopped using plastic, you would be amaved at how many things would be gone.

A lot of plastics can be recycled, but the cost of doing so is high, and plastic itself cannot be remade into other plastics, only into lesser materials. I know that stopping using plastic would change things, but we survived without it for centuries - couldn't we do so again? :) I wrote a short article on the subject which is on the Net at this address: http://www.quazen.com/Science/Environment/A-Future-without-Plastic.7430 you might like to let me know what you think of it.
