Do you think Mylot should have Smileys

Smiley - I am happy

Do you want to use smileys in your discussions. There are some posts I come across in Mylot that leave me in awe.At times, I want to let the person know how impressed I am after reading the discussion. Then there are the one's that I truly appreciate and I want to say 'thankyou' to them. There are a few that sound sad and I want to cheer them up .I look to place a smiley with my cheerful message and wish Mylot had the option to use smileys/emoticons.They are much easier to use than uploading photos.Do you think using smileys could make discussions on Mylot more lively and fun.Would you like Mylot to have smileys?

smileys?? a BIG NO for mylot. i, being, a person who never misses out any chance to flaunt her smiley treasure, is more likely to accept your proposition. on the contrary, i would not want it in myLot. there are a few causes: 1. digression: we would be digressed from the main discussion and spend out time figuring out the meaning of the emoticons 2. supposing that you are a smiley freak aswell, you should agree on the hoardes of NEW emoticons being used each day, this would definitely perplex the users. 3. many a times we could possibly get misinterpreted and this could well become a place of vengeance 4. most importantly, quality and content would going to suffer a lot. however, they could be a check on usage of emoticons. like, one user could use 1-5 every fortnightly and he would have to choose from definitive emoticons fixed by the moderators. lastly, i don't want to see out myLot at any cost and i bet you don't aswell.

I am seeing the light! Especially,the possibility of misinterpreting a smiley.Thanks,mimpi :-)

I actually think its refreshing for people to have to use words to express themselves. It makes you think harder about what you are going to say. There are words to represent everything a smiley does so why bother? Especially when on this site the more words you write the more you get paid.

I agree with you, my dear. Smiley are so impersonal at times. People often send smileys that they don't even mean. Let's practise to develop our expressive skills!

Yes,I see your point.Trying to express the emotions through words, for the ones who can, would definitely take the exchanges to a higher level.Thanks.

I was just thinking that last night, I'd also like to be able to use HTML tags for bold and italics. Now about all we have to add any jazz to our posts is using ALL CAPS and that can be a little annoying. Let's hear it for some smilies!!!

Smilies are not needed here. They add childishness to the forums. But infact we need some fonts or text tool bar or something like the HTML tags that you'd mentioned.

Smileys..oh no. It is better we dont have them here. Smileys are all over the internet and i dont want to see them here also. If mylot introduces the option of using smileys, then there will be very formal smileys in the first place(like we have in the yahoo messenger)..but then slowly there will be bigger size smileys. And then.. there will be talking smileys. And then.. there will be jumping smileys. And then.. the dancing smileys. And then....there will be sorts of wicked and demon smileys. I think there is a greater chance that they are misused. Actually i love smileys a lot, and i am afraid i will get carried away with these smileys and waste my time in trying to use them in places where it is unnecessary. I think we are better off with the text. Smileys are effective than words, but then they tend to magnify the expression both ways. Positively and negatively. Some people are quite rude and if they start using the smileys it will only get more worse. But the idea of smileys is really good.

Yes ,I am beginning to understand that smileys could be overused on the site and that could degrade the quality of discussions here. Thanks for responding,Kritipen :-)

It would be a great idea if mylot can add this function. But it is not so important at all. You can always use your text to express your ideas well, right? =)

I think smileys are a good way to add more expression to what we discuss on here, the only thing is that in some other chat rooms people can go a bit overboard when using them, but overall I think they are a pretty good way of helping to express oneself especially if there is a bit of a language barrier.

I feel smileys look really cute, but then in some responses you will see only smileys and no words in your response as some people do think that by sending smiley they have said all. This is what my cousins does when I chat with him.

Well smilies would be nice. Though since I'm so used to my Japanese text smilies, i.e. ^_^ ^_^' O_O V_V ^_~ -_- etc. I don't know how much I'd use them. So whereas it'd be cool, I think it'd be more important for them to get an edit button for postd (they can limit how many times you edit if they;d like..as long as there WAS one) or a spellcheck..something I know I'd USE.

I think the Japanese text smileys look cool.I am going to start learning them from today.I would also like a 1ce edit function ,but I think it won't be allowed as an offending post could be changed after being reported. Thanks for responding :-)

smiley - mylot should add the smiley feature.
Hello, bluewings,I think it is a good idea for mylot to have smileys so that we can use them for our discussions and replies,I notice that this feature is available in most other forums,we can make our replies more fun with the smileys, but may be there are some technical problems for adding the new feature though.
@bluewings (3857)

Yes,that could be a possibility why they haven't been added ,Easy. It could be a technical problem and yes, they would look good. Thanks for the smile :-)

I really think having smileys for a mylot discussion is one brilliant idea. It is true indeed that there are times that we want to express how delighted we are about certain posts. Smileys are a perfect way to express these feelings, considering the fact that tags like LOL and Thank you really wouldnt be enough. Happy posting!

Got to agree with you ! In the absence of smileys, I try to use my own ones and the ones that I learned from my friends (^^,) But the real smileys are quite lucrative, lol Thanks,Vesuvius!(^^,)

Well if there will be smileys then some user will respond to the discussion with simply smileys so it's good that there are no smileys .. We can't stop that user and all because of this the quality of posts will simply vanish which I don't want.. However I truely support smiley thingie :) .. but there should be some rules also which everyone have to follow

I think it would be absolutely wonderful to have some little pictures similar to Smileys, but I think it would be the very best idea if mylot were to invite mylotters to submit smiley type icons of their own creation, then the icons on mylot would be truly original and different, and a reflection on the mylot factor.

You are most welcome. I also put this to Mylot, and they are working on something like that, so you may very soon be able to have your very own personalised smilie type thingies!

Should MyLot Add Smileys? - Should MyLot add Smileys or not? I wonder if members would abuse them or if having only a few basic ones would keep abuse to a minimum.
I have often thought that it would be nice to be able to use smileys in a discussion, as long as users didn't get carried away with them. I do think that if MyLot added them, they should be limited to just a basic few though. I would also like to see basic html tags allowed. There have been several times when I would have liked to express myself with either a smiley or the use of bolding or italics. It really isn't a necessity, but would be nice.

i forget if i responded this before, lol, yes, smiles are more direct and strong feelings than words, and topics with smiles or other expressions will be more colorful, and interesting.but i don't know if it will influence the speed of viewing the topic,or take more space,:) i just guess, coz i don't know about internet.

Yep,smileys could be used to do a hit and run on the discussions and then the purpose will be defeated. If there is a way to allow the use of smileys in moderation then it would be a great addition. Thanks ,Yanstill!:-D. If your participation has such high quality when you think you aren't too familiar with the internet, then I wonder what would it be like when you are confident with your knowledge about net.:-)

hi bluewings, i don't think that smileys or emoticon are really necessary here in mylot. i quite agree with the response above that we already use words to describe our thoughts and feelings about subject matters. But i do want mylot to have this feature since, it is kind of cute to see an image/icons that represents whatever you are feeling. Smileys are a nice visual graphics.

Yep, visually pleasing and heart warming. No matter how bad a day you are having, a smile does help spread positive vibes, doesn't it?
