you moved out of your parents house and got your own place for the first time? I was 18 and it only lasted about 6 months. I moved back home and met my then soon to be husband about 3 months later.

I left home when I was 17 because my dad decided that I shouldn't live there any more and I am now 30 and only went back once when I was about 24 and going through a bad breakup and had no where to go, I stayed there one night and ended up renting a caravan at the local caravan park until I got my own place not long after.

I'm sorry you've had a strained relationship with your dad. I know that must be really hard to deal with.

I was 18 too, I got married and moved out, then that didn't work out so I got my own apartment with my daughter.

I was 18 too. I moved out for a few months then moved back home for another several months to move back out on my own. I lived in Indiana at the time and was dating my then boyfriend now hubby. We hit a rough patch and broke up so I moved back to where I am originally from with my dad. A month later my hubby and I got back together and we moved here to where some of his family moved to (because I hated IN and he wasn't from there either or here). We stayed with his sister until we got jobs and were able to move out. I was 19 when we finally got on our feet for good.

I went from home to marriage. Not a good deal. Then after the divorce, I had my own place with my children. I loved it. I was in my 30's, working and going to college. A few years later, I got married again and had a few more children. Now I have grandchildren. I like having the house full of people.

Well I guess I did it in two steps as well hehe I actually moved out at 17 but it wasn't exactly moving out.I had been talking about how nice it would be to have my own place for some time when I heard that they were thinking about renting the small concierge apartment in my building. It had been unoccupied for 3 years and it was very small, but it looked exactly what I wanted and after talking to my parents I ended up renting it. But it was so close that it wasn't really a move out huh? MY parents were in the 4th floor and I was in the main floor. Plus the interesting part is that once I moved I actually started spending more time with my parents, go figure hehe I stayed in that apartment until I got married and came to Canada. I was 25.

I was 23 and moved 1,000 miles away. I had just graduated from college and landed a job in Detroit. I married my college sweetheart 1.5 years later.

You mean when I really got a place on my own, by myself? Because I left my parents' home to move in with my then boyfriend (now ex-husband) when I was about 23, we got married a year later. I didn't live alone until our marriage ended 6 years later and I got my own apartment. That didn't last long either because I got pregnant within 6 months and moved in with my current husband. Actually the story is a lot longer and more complicated than that but if you have seen any of my other posts you'd know what I was talking about. We'll just leave it at that. ;)

I guess I was 19, I moved back in about 3 months later - for a very short period of time...if you think teenagers are difficult to live with - you should meet my father. Then I moved out for good.

I went away to college when I was 17, but I still came home in the summers. I really moved out on my own shortly after I turned 21, when I graduated from college and started grad school. Since then, I've been living on my own, though I have had at least one roommate or someone I've been living with for all but about 10 months of that time.

In my country, ie. India, kids leaving parents and living alone is not so common. I was with my parents till I completed my degree course. I was 22 then. I got job in a different city and had to move there. After 4 years, I got married and now living with my spouse. Here it is very common for people to live with parents till they get married.
