Beats me (no punn intended) what the attraction is. I think it's stupid, along with wrestling. My mother is a boxing freak...lol She has to watch it all the time. I have no idea why people would want to box or watch boxing. It seems rather senseless to me.

i think boxing is quite an ancient sport and was played between male contenders to prove their might and strength over each other.

I thinks it was intended for a man, you know the buff men who believe in fighting. This is legal and can watch other men even women beat up each other...I know the money has to come with it..I hear they get tons of money to box..But, to be disfigured possibly for rounds...NOPE, I don't think so...There was only one boxer I enjoyed watching because he was funny when he boxed and talked alotta trash. Roy Jones Jr...lol He's not like what he use to be ...lol.. I have no idea though whey they box..Interesting topic MsLady..

I think it's really for the fame and money. Boxers earned large amount of money whether they win or not because both of them is guaranteed to receive a payment from the promoter whoever wins the figth. Also, boxing is one sport that is popular anywhere you go so once you're a popular boxer, you're sure that there's a chance you'll be known worlwide.

Its similar to asking "what's the reason for wrestling? what's the reason for UFC? what's the reason for taekwondo?", etc. Boxing is sport. Maybe, money is a big factor why people join boxing. Also fame, because they entertain people. But i see nothing wrong with boxing. Given the chance and the potentials, i think i'll do it. For self defense. =)

I never understood why or how this sport became popular as I think it is more violent than all the other sports. I would not want to beat someone up like that or vice versa. Pounding each other like that could kill a person, regardless of whatever equipment they have on. I think this sport should be banned but I guess people will do anything to make some money, even if it means killing someone or causing permanent damage. They do it for the money and fame.

I actually like boxing, and for me I would find sports like football, golf and cricket absolutely boring, as to what the reason is, for me I box, but I use a punch bag and find it great to keep fit, get rid of my anger and frustration. To watch it I enjoy because I find it entertaining. It is also good to box just in case you are attacked and it's a form of self defence.

I can't understand it either and I would never watch a boxing match. I think it is dreadful the way these people abuse each other's bodies and now women are also starting to box. If I saw a couple of dogs fighting I would try to seperate them but why adults do it, just baffles me.

I watched boxing back in the days of Ali once in a while. But, I have not watched in the past 30 years. I guess it is money and fame and the chance to beat the crap out of somebody that attracts people to this. I prefer love myself...lol

Yes, I believe that would have something to do with MONEY and FAME. Of course when you win in boxing, it usually represents your own place or your own country. So when you win, you are bringing usually the name of your country and somehow considered as a hero. Just like here in the Philippines, I don't know why it's a match between Manny Pacquiao (I don't know if you know him, lol) and other contenders, most Filipinos would really look at their TVs and watch from the start till the end. When Manny wins, it seems like everyone treats him as a hero. Of course, as a Filipino, I'm also proud for him. But yeah you're right. Why of all, it would be boxing? Why do you have to hurt and be hurt.

My ex husband used to box and is a qualified boxing coach, my eldest son used to be involved with the training. He wanted to box in shows but when he went for his medical card they found out he had a large hole in his heart and he had to have major heart surgery. One of their friends is a professional boxer. I think they love the training and the sport of it. they are trained to avoid getting hurt as well as inflicting hurt but if you are the kind of lad who will enjoy fighting then it is better for it to be controlled than for them to get into trouble fighting. they all love to go to the boxing matches. last month very sadly one of the boxing coaches was killed on the way home from a boxing show when a lorry run in the back of their car.

I like your question. For me, people box for the love of the sport and competition. They say you want to join in a competition whether it is boxing, martial arts, wrestling..or even swimming, basketball, etc. because each one of us had an inherent motivation. We are motivated to do something to have: 1. A sense of achievement 2. To gain power 3. To be affiliated with a group etc. How about you? What motivates you?

There are different kinds of boxing. The big difference is between amateur and professional boxing. In amateur boxing you MUST use head shield (helmet) and in professional boxing that is not used. Also in amateur boxing you normally just try to get points with fast jabs not with powerful knockout hits.
