Joys of being an old lady

For the past week I have been in Vancouver, house sitting my brothers home. When I came home today I had my granny cart plumb full, as well I had purchased 12 lbs of meat for my freezer.I travel by buss and train for my trip, All the buses today seemed to have three stairs, and at each bus stop there were very kind gentlemen who helped me on and off the buss, as well as the train. That was 3 buses, and one train, and I was helped each and every time on and off.I was telling my favorite bus driver on the last bus about my luck, and the young fellow beside me said I always help old ladies. I had to bite my hand to keep from roaring with laughter, after I was able to compose myself. I said you will always be in my thoughts, Now I haven't really considered myself an old lady, but guess what, I am or at least getting there, but having a lot of fun along the way. So thanks to all the people out there for helping old ladies, we need you. Any other OLD fogies out there with similar stories I would love to hear from you all.

Vancouver sounds like a very nice place to visit. I hope some day I can go there. I enjoyed your story very much.It is so nice and kind of those gentlemen to help you like they did.
where I work the men dont even hold the doors for you, I have to hold the doors for them and I dont even get a thank you. And one of these men, is my own boss.

I do not expect any one to hold a door open for me, I appreciate it if my hands are full, and If I am going through a door and some one is behind me it is only common courtesy to hold the door, And you do not HAVE to hold open the door for your boss you choose to,if he chooses to be rude and not at least say thank you don't hold the door.

Thanks Robin for sharing your story with us. It was a good story and really made me laugh. I never think of myself as old until I look in the mirror and see my mother staring back at me.
However, It seems that others do because they are always offering to help me and I do appreciate their help.
Getting older does have it's perks.

Thank you for your response I appreciate taking the time. It is funny you say you see your mother, I only met my real mother once when I was about 32, and I can't recall her face that well, but I do see a lot of my father looking back,at odd moments. My brothers are the spitting image of him, He was a good man. so i do not mind looking like my dad.even if I am a woman.

i noticed at the supermarket that the check out girls all call me love or sweetheart now ,i think you know my son Ross ( now on the site)is a computer whiz , well the other day when my granddaughter was here visiting she said " you know nanny for an old lady you know a lot about computers" I know it was meant as a compliment she's 12 lol , but Ross teaches me a lot and I love it .so the saying is wrong you CAN teach an old dog new tricks xx

It's nice to hear there are still courteous and respectful men out there. I often go out of my way to assist or offer my chair or seat to an elderly lady or man. All of us would go to that stage and how would you feel if young generation won't mind us when we're old.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It is so nice to hear that people were helping you off and on the bus. Sometimes I wonder about what is happening in our society with so much emphasis on the youth culture. I think hat the proper care and respect for our older generation goes by the wayside. Enjoy the help, you certainly deserve that the courtesy of being given a helping hand.

It was very interesting to read your experience. I also believe, whenever and wherever possible we should render our assistance and help to elders and in turn we shall get their blessings.

I also never consider my self as old, though I am 62, until I look into the mirror. But I want to cry when I see old people struggling at the grocery store pushing the grocery cart and with other difficulties, needing a cane or walker. The funny thing is I'm having the same struggles because of rheumatoid arthritic.

Hi deebomb. OK even if you are 62, it sure doesn't on the average feel that way. yes your arthritic will remind you but if push comes to shove I would say I feel in my late thirties. It is just that old woman that keeps looking back at me from my pictures and mirrors. Thanks for the post

don't feel bad, my son thinks he is middle aged already and he just turned 30. I says I am old and I am 52. This new generation is a quite something I find.

I enjoyed your story very much. You sound like you enjoy life and live it to the fullest. Good for you. It so nice that men will still be courtous enough to help women of all ages onto the bus and off. I would love to visit Vancouver. It just sounds so beautiful. I have never been out of the United States. Thanks for sharing your story with me.
