not everyone agrees with that sentiment. digital photography is still fairly young. because of this, it may take time for some to learn to appreciate the process involved in taking a photograph. what's your opinion?

Definitely art. Photography by all means DOES take work, if only to getting to the point of taking wonderful pictures (though yes, admittedly like with everything that's in the opinion of everyone who sees the pictures). It is also a creative process. No two photographers pictures are ever the same, what they use to do it may be the same but their results however, are not. It IS a creative process..anything creative is art in my opinion. Though yes there really is a science to it too -- isn't there with writing stories or painting too though? Everyone'll constantly argue over what's art and what's not, that's okay. Art's a mutable enough thing for everyone to be right and wrong about ti and the same time lol.

snowy horse..... - Just waiting for Spring, like the rest of us.
I think there is no doubt that photography is art. How can it not be?To catch a moment in time can be called nothing else. A moment that will never be played again. Ever.

I think that photography is art. There are many photographs that I find more visually appealing than some traditional art that I have seen. Not only is photography art, it is also a very important type of art.

Nature is by itself art, so capturing it with a camera and displaying it to it's best advantage is art. Just like there are good and bad painters, so it is with photography.

I really believe very good photographs are a work of art. They may seem not to be too much effort for an outsider but it takes an eye of an artist to see beauty and properly frame it in a picture. :)

I think, art has anything to do with beauty according to the human point of view. So, the more the photos express one's minds, ideas, emotions, hopes, figure, perceptions, etc. - anything human - in it's beauty, the more they are artistic. Sometimes I evaluate photos from it's impression(s) on the object to say they are artistic or not. According to me, photography is a work of art by means of the idea I've told above.

The definition of art takes many forms. In my opinion, to say photography is art or not is more or less ambiguous because it seems to be a form of modern art rather than classical art. Just as a person would argue whether a blob of paint is art, photos don't seem to fit the category of painstaking work. However, it is an expression and that by all definition is the fundamentals of art.
