You know what's in it. You can be sure there are no trans fats, you can shop for bargains at the supermarket, you can try out different recipes, the cost of food in restaurants or fast food places also includes the salary of the helpers, cleaning staff, etc. If you go on the net and look for copycat recipes you may find recipes that are the same as those in the fast food places. It's cheaper and more nutricious, and you have more variety.

Hi hersheygucci, Tell him you are going to teach him (or show him) how the fast food place makes his favorite meal. For instance if it's a hamburger, fix it just like the fast food place would and wrap it up in a saved wrapper from the last time you went there. Or, maybe you could get him a kind of little chef's hat and play fast food restaurant where he comes to the table and orders from a menu made from construction paper and crayons. He can watch you (the chef) cook his favorite meal. There are all kinds of kids meals you can fix like this. Hamburger, hotdog, chicken nuggets, pizza, you name it. Just make it a fast food game. You might even give him little inexpensive toys with his order (like some of them do). You can also get styrofoam cups or save a few from the last time you bought a drink at the fast food and fill them up with your own crushed ice you make from cubes in a blender and filled with your own cola or tea. It can be fun for him. Just use your imagination.

hello terilee, this is just great, I would really do it, it's so fun to imagine I will be the cashier taking out their orders, the chef preparing his foods, and delivering it to him, well. I will start buying toys now for freebies. this is just so fun, I am excited, do you think it's ok if I give him money pretending that he needs to pay me. what do yah think

He likes fast food the same reason we all like fast food. It's tastes great because 99% of that is fake or processed to taste good. All the flavors of fast food are chemically produced in New Jersey and not inherent in the food itself. Even the buns of hamburgers have a natural flavoring called, "Fresh Bread" (Fast Food Nation, multiple pages.) You have to find food at home that can have similar tastes, like chicken nuggets. Fruit is usually a good way to get kids to eat healthy. Make normal kid food too, like PB&J and grilled cheese.

if you eat home made food it is secure because theres no risk that it is poisened or old food and also you can eat at home as you want that is in your own way but outside in restuarant you cant do like this. it is better to eat in 3star or 5star hotel...

You are not the only one cribbing about the kid not wanting to eat at home. Every mother has the same problem. Try out recipes from the below mentioned site maybe it will help your kid start eating homemade food. http://www.kidskuisine.com/

It is not easy since they make everything so greasy and fun for the kids. I have found having my girls help me make the meal at home is something that helps them get excited about eating it. Also if your child likes tacos make up the meat and put all the ingredients out so he can put what he wants on his taco. I have found that the brighter food looks on the plate the more then like it. So try to find foods that are bright in color. It isn't easy to compete with the play areas at McDonalds and Burger King but you could try having picnics outside or at the park. Good luck.

To get kids to eat vegetables, I often cut them into interesting shapes - flowers, stars, leaves. There was a lot of playing with food but some eating also occurred. A game I liked when I was a preteen was to make up a restaurant. My siblings and I would cook dinner, make up menus (which usually consisted of things like: spaghetti - $4. bread - $1. salad - $2. juice - $1) and set the table. My mom even let us use the dining room. Then when my dad got home, he and my mom had to sit down and be customers. Once my dad even paid us! ($1 each). We played this often, even though we didn't know how to cook anything other than spaghetti and the salad was just lettuce leaves with your choice of the dressings that were in the fridge. I wonder how my dad stood it - coming home from a long day of work, looking forward to a nice dinner cooked by my mom to be greeted with "sit here! have a menu! order spaghetti! have some salad! we made our own garlic bread! here's some water!" Maybe your son would like to make menus and help you pick out what dinner is going to be. We had fun drawing pictures of the food and making up different names for the restaurant. My youngest sister wasn't allowed to use knives or the stove so she got to tear up the lettuce and put it into a bowl (and we called it salad). And the garlic bread didn't have garlic on it, because we didn't like garlic. But we loved strawberries. Get used to some weird food now.

ha ha ha! I just can't imagine how your father reacted but it's kinda fun, This is a good suggestion, Am gonna try this to my son and I will be like your parents accepting all the menu prepared by my son, I can't wait to do this and see how my son will enjoy preparing food for us, thanks. And I also like your suggestion of cutting them into shapes and start it with a play and eventually enjoy eating foods at home.
