Don't you think that child protective services should be involved when children live in a home where one or both of the parents have a history of domestic battery, alcohol and drugs? Dad Charged With Attempted Murder of Son Mar 15, 10:40 PM (ET) INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A man stabbed his 11-month-old son in the back, threw the boy out the car window with the kitchen knife stuck in his back and then drove away, police said Thursday. "He was conscious, but the knife was buried all the way to the handle," said Speedway Detective Jim Thiele. The boy, Devon Chandler, was in stable condition at a hospital Thursday. "To the amazement of the doctors and everyone else involved, (the knife) somehow managed to just miss the vital organs," Thiele said. Police say another child, a 5-year-old boy, was in the car when the toddler was thrown out and managed to get out of the vehicle before Chandler drove off. Police have enlisted the FBI's help in locating the father, 30-year-old Kevin Chandler, who was charged with attempted murder. Police think 30-year-old Chandler and the boy's mother, Angela Limbrock, were arguing as they prepared to leave Limbrock's apartment on the west side of Indianapolis Wednesday night. Limbrock handed Devon to Chandler so she could retrieve his car seat inside the home. As she left the car, she heard Chandler swear at the boy and turned around to see him throw Devon out of the car window, according to a police report. When Limbrock picked up her son, she saw a knife in his back, the report said. She ran back to the home, where residents called for an ambulance. "We're still trying to determine motive here, but at this point I have no reason to believe he did this to get back at the mother or anything," the detective said. Chandler, who was sitting in the back seat along with a 5-year-old boy, drove away. The boy was able to get out of the car before Chandler drove off, Thiele said. Chandler has been arrested several times for crimes including domestic battery, auto theft and driving while intoxicated, records show. He served time in an Indiana prison for cocaine possession and carrying an unlicensed firearm near school property, records show. In 2005, police arrested Chandler after he allegedly kicked Limbrock in the head and body. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/16/national/main2577065.shtml?source=RSSattr=U.S._2577065

This is shocking to hear..These people must definitely be punished..They should be taught a lesson that they never dare to repeat such cruel doings.. But we must also accept the fact that not all dads are arrogant, rude, cruel.. I love my dad the most..Admire each and every activity my father does..He is such a sweetheart, and a very loyal and helpful person..My dad means everything to me..

Yes, I certainly do think Child protection services should be involved in situations such as you describe, and more. But often they aren't. Why not? Lack of funding seems to be the main reason. They only have enough fi=unds to investigate & intervene in the most serious of caes. Monor cases of child abuse are either ignored or only superficially ignored. The Result? It develops in to a major crime & something terrible happpens to children. We need to get back to grass roots with protecting children.

Definitely this is what DSS is for. Not for revenge in a marriage dipute, as it is often used.

I think in this case, forget about protective services, call the cops whenever you or anyone you know sees that guy. No doubt he woulod have outstanding warrants for something, then they bring him to prison where he belongs. Then you can relax a little.

Yes I think in such cases special child protective services should be provided to the children for their safety. Like in western countries if a child is hit or abused by the parents then they have a right to call the police and complain against them. This thing should be implemented in eastern countries as well.

Yes, they should. I saw this story and was sick to my stomach. How could anyone do that! They need to lock this guy up and throw away the key. The sad thing is how much abuse is going on every second. We only hear about stories like this, and you never find out about most of the kids being beat daily. I wish some people would pay more attention to the children in their lives. A lot of warning signs are normally there that people don't see.

Yes child protective services should get involved with a case like this one! I want to know how he was sitting in the back seat with the other boy and drove away? This man should be put away and hung for doing this to a 11 month old baby!

If the first step of what you want in the long run is to have him know a bit more about your thoughts then it's a good start. If you're looking for a response or feedback or even understanding, it may not come from this. Don't let yourself get hurt by the outcome (whatever that may be) and it's definitely considered a good effort.

I saw this story on the news this morning and changed the channel. You all know how I feel about people that commit crimes towards children. I want to know if the mother and father lived together, I'm assuming they did. I am really not trying to judge the mom, but if you are aware this guy has violence issues, which she obviously did, why are you still there? I spent time in a womens shelter for abuse before so I understand the psychological issues, but how much do you put up with? I guess the answer to that was found out when this poor little boy got stabbed. It is an absolute miracle he'll be okay. It's also a miracle the 5 year old escaped. Social services should be involved in hse types of households, and I have a feeling maybe they were. But social service workers can't be there to monitor 24/7. I think part of the problem is our foster care system is so overwhelmed that alot of the time social services leaves these children in the home because of a lack of someplace else to put them. And I'm sure the parents in this case were on their best behavior when there was a case worker sniffing around. This is terrible. Seriously, this guy had a record long before any kids came into the picture, they should sterilize these b**ta*ds as part of their prison sentence.

They should absolutely be involved! This is just disgusting. He should have had supervised visitations with someone from the state, and that's it!

Well I have always said they bring out all these new laws but they are not protecting the Children that need protecting, they have stopped Parents smacking and that but they don't stop this.

The sad part is, I know cases locally where it's obvious there is abuse and the CPS just turns their head or warns the parents before every visit. Ridiculous. Yet you will hear a horror story of someone who truly cares for their child being harrassed over ignorant things. Take the story of the obese child. Makes you wonder where priorities are!

OMG!!!! that is horrible!!!! and yes I agree that Child Services should definately be involved and monitoring a home like that...Unfortuately the system is so screwed and a$$ backwards someone pretty much has to die before they step in which IMO is so terribly wrong.....They really need to change how they do things when it comes to that sort of thing... oh those poor children!! Can you just imagine the trauma the 5 yr old will have to deal with?! I mean the baby wont remember this later in life but that 5 yr old sure as hell has a rough road ahead of him.....

wow,i live in ind.an i had not seen this on the news.yes they do need some kind of supervision when a parent has a volient background. they also need to check on the home more often than they do. an plus i think they let them out of prison to soon.if this guy was still locked up than this wouldnt had happen to this poor 11 month old.an a mother that would stay with someone who was abuseive is so crazy, she should have left him a long time ago.child protection needs to keep a very close eye on everyone that has been arrested for battery.an so should the probation officers.

I don't know where to start and yes I do believe someone with this kind of background shoulsd be heavily monitored by social services - surely an innocent childs rights not to have harm inflicted on them far outweigh that of a father who has an abusive past!
