Why don't rich liberals pay off the national debt?

We imagine the Republican party to be the party of the rich, and the Democrats to be the party of the common man. But liberalism is most entrenched among the highly educated, elite, and SUPER-rich. If the liberals really believe what they say, why don't Super-rich liberals, Hollywood stars, media moguls, Bill Gates, actually put their money to use? There is a way to donate money to the federal Government to pay of the debt. They could pay for a national healthcare system. They could pay for social security. They could pay the taxes of the bottom third of all Americans. Why don't liberals donate their money to the government, if the government knows best how to spend it?

I always get confused with the stereotypical representation of Republicans. Which is it democrats? Are Republicans rich elitists or poor hicks? Make up your minds! I think liberals are usually rich people that like to think of themselves as poor, or like to emphasize (but take no action) with the poor.

Love Me, I'm a Liberal, By Phil Ochs: I cried when they shot Medgar Evers Tears ran down my spine I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy As though I'd lost a father of mine But Malcolm X got what was coming He got what he asked for this time So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal I go to civil rights rallies And I put down the old D.A.R. I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy I hope every colored boy becomes a star But don't talk about revolution That's going a little bit too far So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal I cheered when Humphrey was chosen My faith in the system restored I'm glad the commies were thrown out Of the A.F.L. C.I.O. board I love Puerto Ricans and Negros As long as they don't move next door So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal The people of old Mississippi Should all hang their heads in shame I can't understand how their minds work What's the matter don't they watch Les Crane? But if you ask me to bus my children I hope the cops take down your name So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal I read New Republic and Nation I've learned to take every view You know, I've memorized Lerner and Golden I feel like I'm almost a Jew But when it comes to times like Korea There's no one more red, white and blue So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal I vote for the democtratic party They want the U.N. to be strong I go to all the Pete Seeger concerts He sure gets me singing those songs I'll send all the money you ask for But don't ask me to come on along So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal Once I was young and impulsive I wore every conceivable pin Even went to the socialist meetings Learned all the old union hymns But I've grown older and wiser And that's why I'm turning you in So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

Poor people don't pay taxes. They get everything back when they file. Only the rich pay taxes, as it stands right now. And Bill Gates gives more money to charity than most organized religions. I agree it would be nice if people put their money where their mouth is. John Edwards is currently building a multi-million dollar home, while saying he knows what it's like to be impoverished. Al Gore's home uses more electricity than most entire neighborhoods.

Check the IRS records and you will fing that 80% of the taxes come from the top 25% of the income. President Regan was accused by the Democrats of creating more millionairs during his administration than any other president. Not only did he cut the tax rates for the rich but he closed many of the loopholes in the tax code. The millionairs that were created during hsi administration was based on the number of people who paid taxes on $1,000,000.00 or more. He did not creat the millionairs but rather made them report and pay taxes on their income. The meida failed to report that they got their data from the IRS and the increase was the number of people who were paying taxes on a million dollars or more. That should be a good thing - right?

What Republican politician could be called the "common man?" Which one of them ran for office on their time off from working in the coal mine?

I agree. There was a study done, and I will try to find it so I have something to back this up with, that showed that of all the members of congress, the Democrats make up the majority of the richest members.

They don't do that because the liberals are all for symbolism over substance. They like to talk about an issue and show how much they care, but it is just talk . They talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk. They say what the voters want to hear, and then pay lip service and never follow through. Al Gore, the inventor of the internet and super - environmentalist with his energy wasting house is a prime example. They claim to be for the common man and then jack the taxes up a bit more every chance they get. The liberals are about power and control, and they don't care who they have to screw over to get it.
