What do you write most about?

What genre or theme do you most enjoy when it comes to writing? Personally, I've always been into fantasy, science fiction, and horror (I was raised on these genres, lol). So, when I write, I tend to lean more toward those areas. Not only because I enjoy those genres, but also because I know a great deal about what works and what doesn't within those genres. I guess this is my comfort zone, so to speak. What is your comfort zone? And, why?

I like to write horror/thriller, I guess that's what I'm comfortable with. You can always draw inspiration from your nightmares. I currently only write for my own benefit, because I enjoy writing. My wife reads all that I write, and thinks I should see if I can get some printed, but, being my own worst critic in everything that I do, I don't really think any of it would sell. I'd love to be able to write fantasy, but don't think I could do justice to the genre!

Oh yes, nightmares can be an amazing source of inspiration. I understand that you're harder on yourself than anyone else could ever be, but keep in mind that the worst someone can say is "no". And, if you never send anything out to see if it can be published, you're asured that it never will be. You could always try fantasy. If you really want to write it, do it and see if you like the result. :) +

I don't actually call what I do with my pen on my journal is "writing". I'd rather call it scribblings. Now, since most of the time I picture myself as a struggling, somewhat melancholic writer, I usually am focused on emotional writings. I like to write on human emotion and tend to drag my writings describing the emotion rather than factual description of any particular scene. I am also somewhat attracted to philosophy and theological writings, describing very many factions of ideas of life and the livings.

Do you prefer prose or poetry? Because your words sound very poetic in nature. Are your theological and/or philosophical writings nonfiction, or do you incorporate those ideas into fiction? +

It depends on a lot of things, but yes I do lean more towards poetry writings. However, I write very less in English. I usually tend to write in my native language. When I write fiction, I do try to weave in it my theological and philosophical views.

I mainly write in those three genres too..sometimes mixing them up like horror/fantasy, supernatural/scifi-thrillers, etc. I was raised on those genres too, haha. I CAN write mostly normal-ish stories, but even then it leans towards horror, not to the point it's truly scary but to the point where the story is just incredibly dark. I don't know, maybe it's because that's the kind of stuff which really catches my interest? Sometimes though I will d something out of the ordinary for me, but I guess that's my comfort zone, heh.

It's amazing how often those three genres coincide really. Sometimes, I even find it difficult to pick just one as the label for a given story. +

After5 my auto accident my doctor told me to write out my thoughts. I had brain trama and had a hard time talking. So I wrote stories aboout my family, so they could pass them on. One day one of my sons said I should share them on line. That is how My Thoughts by Carolee started. Here are some of them http://itscarolee.tripod.com/

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and family stories. I am sorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad that you were able to turn the experience into something constructive and creative. +

When I write, it's like putting a part on my soul on paper, regardless of the topic or genre. I hardly think of what the readers might say as long as I am able to express myself in the words flowing out of me.

Fantays, sci-fi, horror, yeah that about describes my comfort zone as well. Probably because I enjoy them, was raised on them, and find them interesting. I wouldn't be able to do any of the things I want to try to do in my writing if it was a present day story about the mafia or something.

I agree with that. Having been raised on those genres myself, I don't think I'd ever be able to efficiently write a mafia type, or really anything that strayed too terribly far from fantasy, sci-fi, horror, or a mix of the three. +

I write the best when I am writing about things that I can relate to so I write the most about drama/love.... right now love is relatively stable but life is drama so I don't think that will ever change.
