Iraqi Muslim man allegedly raped a Muslim woman in Sydney, Australia........

as "punishment" for her reading the Bible. And not ONCE but TWICE! He pulled her hijab, the veil, and pulled it tight across her mouth to prevent her from screaming. After raping her, he said, "Let your Jesus help you!" So this is a "reason" to do this act or an "excuse"? What do you think? To me it only makes me even more confused about this "religion"!

That is awful, all religions confuse me I am afraid, I call myself Spiritual with my own beliefs that did not come from an old book that is one of many, there really can only be one superior being which means there can not be so many books...and no matter what book I am sure none condone killing which they all seem to do...the world has gone crazy and unfortunately religions seem to be the cause, peoples beliefs should be an inner personal thing...I hope I have not offended anyone this is not my intention....

I totally agree with your response lilaclady and the same could be said about me offending anyone as I, like you, it is not my intention! My beliefs come from my heart and I am comfortable with that!

I believe that there is a higher power of some description, but I don't know what it is, or what name it has. I only think that we need to believe in something in order to be happy. It does not matter what it is, so long as it is right for us.

When he reaches his "God",they can decide what to do with his soul.In the meantime, his a*s belongs in jail.Assault, rape, illegal confinement, crime of discrimination and I am sure there are many, many more laws he broke. If his "God" feels what he has done is ok,then the two of them can get together in the after-life and discuss it over some hot tea.

I have to agree with you lonewolfnan, and do find it difficult to understand how the excuse can be used for this act. As I say it is one religion I definately have trouble understanding!

If he is an Iraqi national, then he can be deported back to Iraq. If not, then definitely in jail he goes. I can think of quite a few laws he has broken, including just being an a*s*hole.

There is definitely no excuse for this kind of behaviour. I don't understand how they can say that they are against bad things, and yet so many bad things have come from the extremist muslims. All religions have their downfalls, and so many wars have been fought over religion, but these are the ones who seem to be in the news the most these days.

I also hope that the justice system does not let her down. "Rape is rape is rape" - circumstances do not matter. I can understand that if they are in 'the middle of it consentually' and then she wishes to stop it can be difficult, but this is an entirely different circumstance. I hope he gets what he deserves, and she gets the help she needs.

You are quite right BEL it is no excuse for this kind of behaviour but some seem to think they can use it and get away with it, can only hope the Justice System does not let this woman down!

Assuming what you have said is correct, I must say I am very much soryr and concerned about the poor woman. This man, who unfortunately calls himself a Muslim deserves the most severe punishment the Australian Law has for such a crime. Islam does not prohibit reading of any other religion's scripture. His saying is only an excuse and this makes his crime even worse.

I do not think there is any law in Saudia or even in Iran that forbids Muslims fron reading the Bible. Now I would like your openion Suitsme on allowing Muslims to read their Quran. And respecting Quran as a religios scripture. Not getting my point??? Have a look at this one; world.mediamonitors.net/content/view/full/14908/

As was hinted earlier, this is just another example of a depraved pervert attempting to justify his calis actions! As with most scum of the earth creatures like this jerk, they try to blame everyone else for their own shortcommings and smoke screen it in the name of something or other! Things done in the name of faith in my personal view are done as a personal desire by the perpetrator, as all faiths are translated by man to suit "the purpose of the day". Then instead of taking responsibility for their actions "blame" try to condone it through "their faith"!! An interesting point was also raised about priests malesting children earlier. There is a massive diffence with this situation as the priests don't attemt to say "God" told them it was okay to do it! Perpetrators of these types of crimes should be castrated by a Female surgeon and paraded in a caged float through town with the castrated bits hanging around their necks!! Agreed a bit barbaric.... but then so are the crimes!!

I am not surprised at all, chocolate lady, that the eagle has some things to say. I agree with his comment about the molesters being castrated and paraded around town. I think that this might be a bit too good for some of them, but for others it is perfect. Make sure there is no pain relief for them at all as well. Why does it need to be a surgeon who does the job? Why not the victim, or one of them in the case of many. Perhaps this can be part of the healing process.

Hi caramello. It's sad what happened to this poor woman. But we can not judge religions with what people of those faiths do. I have friends who are Muslims and we discuss a lot of things about religions. This violent man is a mad fanatic nothing more nothing less. He didn't learn to rape women who read about another religion in his book. Take care caramello.

No doubt he did not get this type of behaviour from any religious book and this is why I seem to question why he has chosen to use it as an excuse. I am sure their are a lot of Muslims who would agree that this type of behaviour is against what they believe and am glad that it is a minority who think this way! Have a good day VotreAmie.

This animal used the fact that the woman as a Bible as an "excuse" for a vile act. It was not a punishment for anything at all in my opinion but he came up with a pathetic statement in an attempt to justify such a despicable thing. I am a Christian, but I do know that no Holy Book gives anyone the right to rape another person. Think of it not in the sense of the religion at all caramello, but understand and accept that this animal is evil. Over the centuries many things have been done in the name of a Religion, of God, but they are really done to satisfy the urges (of whatever nature they might be) of those who perform these evil deeds. It is similar to the killings and terrorists that we hear so much about. They do not do these things in the name of their Religion, but simply attempt to use their religion to justify such awful degrading things that they do to others. Rape is rape and that is the end of the story as far as I am concerned. This animal should be tried in a court of law, and once he has been convicted and served his sentence, he should be deported back to Iraq. No questions, no excuses and as far as I am concerned he should be gone from this country. Let him try to do that in his own country, and he would have received a fair trial. Only in that case it would have been conducted by the males of the victim's family. Then he would have been killed and this would have happened in a matter of days. Instead he is here in Australia, where he might expect to get away with it and attempts to hide behind his religion. If he is an Australian citizen, then it is time that the Government looked at how to revoke the citizenship of people who commit such vile actions. All the do-gooders who say it cannot/should not be done, revoking citizenship, can go with these animals when they are deported as far as I am concerned. Okay caramello, I will get down off my soapbox now but I am sure that you understand what I am saying. This animal is using his religion in an attempt to justify a vile act, and I am certain that it will fail.

I am not at liberty to discuss this, as I am sure someone will be offended. I can only say that God will judge all. Religion is man made rules how to worship God. But faith, that is a different thing. That is a personal relationship with God. So, just keep it in prayer, and trust and hope with faith. There are so many "religions" out there, but there is only really "one God."

It is obvious that there is no respect for others beliefs, if that is his 'excuse' for his actions.

I suppose this is like the Catholic Church and all the problems they're having with the priests having relations with each other, boys, girls as well as nuns. Don't look at just one person's actions...look at the whole tree.

Yes I do find any type of behaviour like this quite disturbing but to rape someone for reading a Bible is a very poor excuse for their actions and I would not accept this as a reason by no means.

There are men who consider themselves to be Christians who do horrible things. It can happen in an religion. It is the individual, not the whole flock.

He is a kind of person that does not have respect for himself and thus cannot give respect to others. Of course we have different views and beliefs in this world and I believe that we should respect other people. If he is an authentic Muslim he should be able to carry out and perform and be an example of a true and devote Muslim. Shame on him.

If he is a true Muslim, then he should definitely have respect for others. If he is an Iraqi, can he be deported? If she is a Muslim as well, why was she reading the bible? Was it to learn more about Christianity, or to upset him? Is he her husband, boyfriend, or just a person in the street who saw something, and took advantage of it?

Unfortunatly you see cases of this over and over again. It is called Honor Killing. On Feburary 21, 2007 a musilum man in England burned his wife and daughters alive because they were becomming to western. There have been 7 killings of wives by their husband in Jordan this year. A man killed his wife because he had a dream that she was unfaithful. In Turkey a husband slit his wife's throat in the public squair because a loveballat wasplayed for her on the radio. In Packanstan a 16 year old mentally retarded girl was raped. The Tribal Council took jurdisdiction over the case and decided that the girl had to die for bringing shame to the tribe. This information was found with a simple goodle search and I found most of the information in an article in National Gergraphic News. You can go to www.news.nationalgeorgahpic.com and do a search for Honor Killings. One way to deal with such abuse toward women is for the western media to report such abuse and let the world, including the Moderate Musilums, know what is being done in the name of religion. At the same time educate the people as to what the Koran saids and what some mulaha are are preaching. In Western cultures we should treat such treatment of women as a crime andpunish accordingly.

You know, Wouldnt it be interesting if this girl had an std or maybe aids so that this guy would really be getting punished. Personally I think they should tie this guy up and let him hang from a tree and let all the women beat him with sticks and throw rocks at him. No punishment could be to harsh for those that do such things, and to make it worst he uses religion as an excuse, well if this is allowed be his religion, maybe we should seriously consider whether this is a religion or a cult. Take care!!
