Pics on Ebay - do they really help?  

Thanks embattledsparkle! I didn't know there were stock photos available, how interesting. Since I have some brand new & some old stuff, I figured pics would be best. I guess to show any wear, you'd need to get a fairly close pic, huh?

Hi tess1960! Thanks for responding. I will do comparisons with or without pics, just to see if there's something good, but I do usually delete the no pic listings by the end of the comparison.

Since you're selling small items (beanie babies) would you mind if I asked how close up are your pics? I'm thinking of the zoom level I'll need to consider too. The disposable ones are nice since you get to delete the ones you don't like, but they don't have a zoom. :(

I've got several that I'm "watching" but I may go with the one we got my mother in law for Christmas. It was a Kodac easy share. The camera & memory card were about $130 total. It is a lot cheaper than the first digital camera I bought, but I'll be using it for a much different purpose this time. Unfortunately I've gotten a new PC since I bought it & now I can't connect the camera to it for uploading & the smartmedia card won't read anywhere, even though the camera shows 9 pics are on it. :(

Did you check to find out if you can purchase an adapter for your camera to use with your new pc. It would be less expensive...

Actually, I hadn't even thought of that. I could always check to see if there's an adapter for a nine pin connector. You're probably right about it being a cheaper solution. Thanks for the suggestion. :D

Yes, there are adaptors converting nine-pin to usb.

Oh how cool! Any idea on the best place to find them? The first places that come to mind are best buy, circuit city, radio shack, office max, office depot........

Google FRY's Electronics and see if they have one in your state. This is the best place for electronic equipment.

Hey naty1941! Thanks for sending me to Fry's! I did find the adaptor cable, but for $30 I had to pass, in case the camera didn't work anymore. While I was there, I checked their camera department & found a verrrry cheap camera to take ebay pics with. I've started a new discussion to get some opinions on the pic quality for ebay use and wanted to let you know your suggestion has really helped me move forward in this venture. You get awarded the BR for your advice. Thanks so much! :D

LOL, yes, a 9 would be considered low even if the feedback is 100% positive. So far I've only been a buyer there. ;)

I hadn't really given much thought to the gallery pic yet. Would you suggest adding them as early as the first few listings or wait til I've tested it a while?

it would be nice I have this pitcher and 4 mugs set that was hand made and it is called the Old Man, but the pitcher and the mugs have different faces of old men on them it is really cute and everyone keeps telling me that I should put it on ebay because it is one of a kind.

LOL, make sure you include words like unique or not many available like this, etc. Sounds like that would make a very good candidate for a listing. Best of luck on your ebay ventures! :D

That makes alot of sense. After seeing what a good deal you got, I had to go to ebay & actually found a few to bid on. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't get outbid. :D Both items should end within the week. :D

I think you're right. I've gotten a few good suggestions that could bring the price down a bit, but I definately agree that I need one. :)

I don't mind doing comparisons without the pics, but I do tend to delete them by the end of the research session. :)

May I also add that If you do get a digital camera if it doesn't come with a battery charge to get one of those too(they usaully come with 4 rechargable batteries.) I found out the hard way with mine and went through about 6 batteries a day trying to learn how to use the camera. I have a charger now and it is so well worth it. I never save pics to my smart card. just upload to pc then delete them from camera.

I hadn't thought about a charger, but I'm glad you mentioned it. I had to double check, but only one of the 2 I'm currently bidding on has the charger. I may have to let the other one go to the next bidder. It was nice to see the video feature and the view screen on the one I'm still considering. :)

Of course its better to have a picture and see what your bidding for. As a buyer i tend to think that sellers that refuse to post pictures of what they are selling are scammers. So a visual is always good for the buyer and the seller.

Actually I didn't know the first pic was free, so my question was asked out of concern for the costs involved, not in scamming someone by not providing a pic. :)
