Pics on Ebay - do they really help? |
| |
| I have a question for ebay sellers. In your opinion, is it better to post a pic for your ebay listings? Personally, I know I prefer to see what I'm bidding on. It's my understanding that it costs extra to add pics to your listing though. I've taken a few digital pics for some stuff I want to list but it's only been with a disposable digital camera so far. I'm thinking it would be wise to invest in a "real" digital camera though, if for no other reason than that you can instantly upload your pics. As I consider this, I wanted to know how important it was to add these pics because digital cameras can be fairly expensive. Thanks in advance for sharing your opinions. :) | | | | | |

| | I'm mostly a seller at eBay and I can say it helps a lot. I add a picture to every description. The buyer can see exactly what they are getting. As a sometimes buyer, I very rarely will look at something that doesn't have a picture... If I'm buying something at eBay, I want whatever I buy to have a picture. Now with books, movies and cd's, eBay will sometimes pull the picture up for you and list the stock photo. That's fine unless you're item has a lot of wear, then you really want to have your own photo with it so the buyer can see what they're bidding on. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks embattledsparkle! I didn't know there were stock photos available, how interesting. Since I have some brand new & some old stuff, I figured pics would be best. I guess to show any wear, you'd need to get a fairly close pic, huh? | | | |

| | My husband buys and sells boyscout items on ebay and I have sold beanie babies and other collectibles before. Always the best bids would be from items with pics. I do not even look at auctions if there is not a pic to see what I am getting. | | | | | | |

| | Hi tess1960! Thanks for responding. I will do comparisons with or without pics, just to see if there's something good, but I do usually delete the no pic listings by the end of the comparison. Since you're selling small items (beanie babies) would you mind if I asked how close up are your pics? I'm thinking of the zoom level I'll need to consider too. The disposable ones are nice since you get to delete the ones you don't like, but they don't have a zoom. :( | | | |

| | I've got several that I'm "watching" but I may go with the one we got my mother in law for Christmas. It was a Kodac easy share. The camera & memory card were about $130 total. It is a lot cheaper than the first digital camera I bought, but I'll be using it for a much different purpose this time. Unfortunately I've gotten a new PC since I bought it & now I can't connect the camera to it for uploading & the smartmedia card won't read anywhere, even though the camera shows 9 pics are on it. :( | | | |

| | Did you check to find out if you can purchase an adapter for your camera to use with your new pc. It would be less expensive... | | | |

| | Actually, I hadn't even thought of that. I could always check to see if there's an adapter for a nine pin connector. You're probably right about it being a cheaper solution. Thanks for the suggestion. :D | | | |

| | Hey naty1941! Thanks for sending me to Fry's! I did find the adaptor cable, but for $30 I had to pass, in case the camera didn't work anymore. While I was there, I checked their camera department & found a verrrry cheap camera to take ebay pics with. I've started a new discussion to get some opinions on the pic quality for ebay use and wanted to let you know your suggestion has really helped me move forward in this venture. You get awarded the BR for your advice. Thanks so much! :D | | | |

| | It is an absolute necessity to have pics in your auction listings if you want to sell on ebay. The first pic is free! You can get a good camera for posting pics for about $100 - you will certainly get that amount back because your items will sell for more if people can see the item. | | | | | | |

| | Yes it helps especially if you have a low feedback #. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you plan to sell full time I recommend it. The 1st photo is free. I host my own photos so I can put how many I want in the auction for free. It is also wise to pay the extra 35 cents for a gallery photo. | | | | | | |

| | LOL, yes, a 9 would be considered low even if the feedback is 100% positive. So far I've only been a buyer there. ;) I hadn't really given much thought to the gallery pic yet. Would you suggest adding them as early as the first few listings or wait til I've tested it a while? | | | |

| | I think that it is better to have a pic on there, I would like to see what I am buying but right now I am trying to learn how to do the ebay thing so that I can put things jon there to sell and I would put pic so that it might help it sell faster. | | | | | | |

| | it would be nice I have this pitcher and 4 mugs set that was hand made and it is called the Old Man, but the pitcher and the mugs have different faces of old men on them it is really cute and everyone keeps telling me that I should put it on ebay because it is one of a kind. | | | |

| | LOL, make sure you include words like unique or not many available like this, etc. Sounds like that would make a very good candidate for a listing. Best of luck on your ebay ventures! :D | | | |

| | I agree with everyone else, pictures are a no brainer, you hsould have them. One picture is good but it is best to include multiple ones from different angles, and be sure to include close up of any belmishes or damage if you are selling a used product. eBay does include stock photos for media like books and movies but I still take a picture of my actuall item. I think as a seller you have to do everything you can to make sure your potential customers understand what they are buying and including pictures really helps with that. When I first started selling I bought a digital camera on eBay for $15 and used that to take pictures. They weren't the best pictures but they were better than nothing. After a little while I bought a new Kodak Easy Share and that is what I still use today. I actually found it to be the cheapest at Overstock.com and only paid $90. I also have my own hosting so I can add as many pictures as I want to a listing. IF you are going to get really serious about selling, it would be a good investment to get a hosting account somewhere. You can get them pretty cheap nowadays, then you just upload all you pictures to your hosting and just place a code in your auction and your picture will show up. I always do use the free picture hosting for one picture that ebay gives you. I do this because I always choose the Gallery option and the picture I upload free to eBay is the one that shows up as the gallery picture. I have found that having the gallery pic and including multiple pics in my auction really helps get me more bids, thus I sell things for a higher price. It is really worth it. | | | | | | |

| | That makes alot of sense. After seeing what a good deal you got, I had to go to ebay & actually found a few to bid on. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't get outbid. :D Both items should end within the week. :D | | | |

| | In my opinion,if you post a pic of your things for sell,it shows others the real goods,Others then will buy the things at a larger rate.It's wise to invest a digital cameral,although it's expensive.It shows your genuine. | | | | | | |

| | I am both a buyer and a seller on eBay and I will always list items with a picture. With a photograph on the auction site you can see the item and get a better idea of the condition, colour, etc. I would not even consider buying anything from any on line shopping site without seeing a picture | | | | | | |

| | I am not a seller but I have purchased from ebay before and I personally wouldn't make an online purchase without first seeing what it looks like. I checked into selling on ebay and i think its only like 10 cents give or take a few cents for posting a pic. I would go out and get a digital camera if I were you . Mine was only about 80 dollars at walmart and it does videoe also! It is a samsung and my pride and joy. I don't go anywhere without it. | | | | | | |

| | May I also add that If you do get a digital camera if it doesn't come with a battery charge to get one of those too(they usaully come with 4 rechargable batteries.) I found out the hard way with mine and went through about 6 batteries a day trying to learn how to use the camera. I have a charger now and it is so well worth it. I never save pics to my smart card. just upload to pc then delete them from camera. | | | |

| | I hadn't thought about a charger, but I'm glad you mentioned it. I had to double check, but only one of the 2 I'm currently bidding on has the charger. I may have to let the other one go to the next bidder. It was nice to see the video feature and the view screen on the one I'm still considering. :) | | | |

| | Of course its better to have a picture and see what your bidding for. As a buyer i tend to think that sellers that refuse to post pictures of what they are selling are scammers. So a visual is always good for the buyer and the seller. | | | |

| | Actually I didn't know the first pic was free, so my question was asked out of concern for the costs involved, not in scamming someone by not providing a pic. :) | | | |
