What's the earliest TV show you remember watching as a kid? |
| |
| This is definitely going to date me, since when I was a kid, color TV didn't exist...it was still black and white! Thinking back the shows that I remember watching were...gasp...and don't laugh at some of them...okay? The Lawrence Welk Show (that was my great-grandmother's one to watch) The Ed Sullivan Show The Mickey Mouse Club American Bandstand Thats about as exciting as TV got in those days--LOL So what shows do you remember watching as a kid?? | | | | | |

| | I watched "loony toones" a lot as a kid. My favorite character was bugs, and I was obsessed with it. I also watched "I Love Lucy" with my mom, and I was obsessed with Sailor Moon. I remember saving all of my allowance money to go and buy a Sailor Moon trading card. Seasame Street was another one that I watched. | | | | | | |

| | I remember Emergency being extremely popular in its day. One time, I had been doing laundry and went down to get it out of the dryer just before the show started... I lived in a third-floor walk-up, 4 apts. to a floor... and I heard that opening siren coming from every apartment on every floor! | | | |

| | I remembered fighting over the remote control for the shows to watch with my two older brothers. Of course, they always won. I ended up watching Voltes V for many years. We were allowed to watch after doing our homework. Its a Japanese show that's full of actions and dramas. | | | | | | |

| | PMSL yup the first time I ever saw television it was on a huge box like object with a tiny little fuzzy black and white screen and the programme was a puppet show called "Muffin the Mule". My Mum used to take me for a long walk over to my Gran's house so I could watch it, as it was something of a novelty back then. | | | | | | |

| | oh, my we are all watching the same shows lol.. I loved Green Hornet. I was always a big sci fi fan, movies and shows.. I was a huge Star Trek fan from day one. At that time where we lived it aired opposite Batman (remember, Adam West?). My brother and sister watched it. We fought so badly every Wed. at 8PM that 'Santa' brought me a teeny tiny b&w set for my bedroom so I could watch ST and my folks could have peace. I was no fool and outnumbered 4 to 1. I rarely won the wed. nite vote (1 week in 5 I got to watch ST), so I settled for the b&w.. | | | |

| | Yes I remember Batman & Robin. We can't forget Perry Mason and what about Hazel. LOL My favorite was the Abbott and Costello shows, I think they had them on Sunday mornings with the Andrew Sisters. Back then the whole family sat in front of a B&W tv set that had awful reception (you had to get that antenna just right) and as ofr a remote control - HA! we had to get up to change the channel and adjust the volume. The kids today don't know how good they have it. I recently saw on cable the Little Rascals, boy did it bring back memories. | | | |

Had to watch it in town, most of us didn't have color sets then.. and the original first time run pilot for Star Trek (pre-Kirk, what is now known as the episode "The Menagerie".. but by then I was old, all of 9.. and we had a local show called Homer Briarhopper's something-or-other (yep, his real name)..oh, oh and Peggy Mann (a local Martha Stewart of the day).. they were filmed at a university about 20 miles from home).. rofl.. such memories, great discussion..

I remember watching Red Skelton, American Playhouse, but mostly I remember Fury, Sky King, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Mighty Mouse, Uncle Jay (a local kids program that had birthday kids on it & showed cartoons.)

I can remember being at the baby sitters watching The Smothers Brothers but I think that was a bit later. I remember our first tv was a black and white also with the rounded picture and when it didnt work right Dad would take all the tubes out and take them to the nearest stores test machine to see which one is burned out. Ahhh the good old days. Take care, Terry.
