For paid version, you could try Kaspersky and Symantec. Both the two are very effective when it comes to scanning and detecting viruses. When it comes to free version, you could choose from the three, AVAST (which you have currently in your machine), AVG, and AVIRA. At this point of time, I am using Avira AntiVir Personal Classic Edition. I have used this software for over a longer period of time. I have never encountered any problems with regards to the system performance of my machine since using this one. Otherwise, I am very much satisfied with it. It updates regularly and does its jobs pretty well. Updates can be scheduled at your most convenient time. It is very light also on resources, which means it does not use a lot of memory. Hence, does not slow down your computer. It detects and deletes rootkits, worms, trojans, viruses, etc. This can be downloaded at www.free-av.com
Hope this would help.
Have a nice day!

i have a virus yesterday,and my anti-virus software didn't work,it's a new species,so i spent a day to get rid of it,but it was still there.so i installed the whole system,and formated all of my disks,then it's okay.
now i don't know which software is the best, but i am sure those hackers will develop new virus and our software can't be that quick to respond to.
i have to install a lot of software today,oh.

A good free one is AVG. It is good enough for most people's needs and if you use it with other security programs you should be ok .
SOmeone mention the ones I use already so I won't go over them again, but it is important to protect your computer and sometimes only one program is limited.
I don't even remember having a security problem in my computer for ages.

I am using the free AVG edition on my laptop and so far it has served me well by intercepting many viruses that I encountered on line. It has also on many occasions detected Trojans in my machine and helped me to remove them. I would definitely keep on using AVG especially when surfing on the net.

Hi,yanjiaren!!
I use the Rising, maybe is a Chinese domestic anti virus spyware program.I think the Rising is unefficient.lol
Most of my friends use AVAST but they still think this anti virus spyware program is as efficient as they wonder.Anyway,AVAST is more useful than the Rising.

I have heard of avast but really do not have much knowledge of it. I use Norton Anti-virus on my computer and I also run an adaware and spyware protector. I used to have McAfee on my computer also but didn't care fo it too much. I have always used Norton and I upgrade it every year. I am pretty pleased with their protection.

To clean viruses I use Avast 4 Home edition. Also I tried nod32. Before that I also used AVG antivirus, which is also good. For cleaning spywares, I use Adware, and Spybot. Spybot is a real strong antispyware, and is great.

I use AVG from grisoft myself. Avast should suffice though. Make sure you update your windows regularly, put on a firewall, and you are set.
