I'm not sure whether it's a typically singaporean thing, but ikea is always very crowded. It's huge to begin with, and has tons of parking spaces. However, when you go on weekends, the parking spaces are usually full and there are so many people that it's too crowded to walk comfortably. We used to have just one ikea in the western part of singapore. now, we have another huger one in the far east of singapore. and singapore is only 42km by 26 km! I've heard that in other countries, for provinces the size of a few singapores, there's only one ikea. I suppose since it's further to drive to that ikea, it's not always as crowded?

I've been to a couple of Ikeas in the US and one in the UK. The one in my city is always crowded mainly because its the only one within a 5 hour drive! Ikeas always get super crowded during the weekends. I once went on a Saturday when I was in the Chicago area, and it was super packed.

the thing i admire about ikea is it's business model. no transport unless you pay (even if you spend tons there - most shops have a minimum spend to get free transport), and flat packing everything for you to set up yourself. Saves them tonnes of labour and transport costs.

Have you ever wondered why it is always crowded? There is only so much furniture a home can have, yet everyday, time you go to Ikea, it is always long queues with lots of people buying some form of furniture or appliances from them. Most of the time, I go there for the delicious Swedish meatballs and then we go. And each time we go, the queues at the check out counters are always long! I think out of the 10 times I was there with my wife, I only go back with my hands full of furniture and stuff... mabbe 10-15% of the time.

Yes always. It's probably one of the biggest stores in my city but there're always so many people that it really just makes you want to scream. Mann I wish I were the owner of Ikea :-D

Not always crowded. Depend on the SALE, festive season, etc. I like to see all their furniture. Most people like to see their ideas. My IkeA is at The Curve Mutiara Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. :)

There is only one IKEA in my area and I think it's still pretty new, and therefore a novelity, so yes, it can be PACKED and quite overwhelming. I perfer to go on a weekday if possible....of course I have to work so this often isn't possible. If I need to do some serious IKEA shopping, I try to take the day off of work and go. It just makes things sooo much easier. But if i am just browsing for fun, I will brave the crowds. I'll be moving shortly so I know I will need to do a serious IKEA trip soon.

I don't think it is a Singaporean thing. Over here the ikea is always very crowded too especially when they are having sale. They just have a good reputation I guess
