Something new that has bad ingredients in it on the shelves.

Have you heard about the toothpaste that has anti freeze in it? I heard it on the news only an hour ago and just shake my head. How do these things happen? I don't know if they mentioned the name and all I got was that it was made in China and can especially harm children but I don't think I would want to use a toothpaste that has anti freeze ingredients in it would you? The big question is how do things like this happen? When ingredients are going into a product why would something like anti freeze or anything that is harmful even be in the immediate area of production? Where are the people who are supposed to be watching? What has happened to quality control? Any guesses?

This is really becoming problematic. I personally feel that it is time to stop importing products. Apparently other countries do not have as tight of controls as our manufactuers do! Also, to make things in our country would increase jobs for our people. I know that doing so would raise the price of goods a bit, but I would rather pay a few cents more for my toothpaste and dog food and LIVE than to die of some god-awful disorder!

That's the truth! I would spend a few cents more to be sure that whatever I'm using is not going to be harmful to me. We think we're doing so good by using other countries for what we need when all we are doing is causing more problems in the US.

I know I can't understand how this happens either. I hadn't heard about the toothpaste that is awful. And all the recalls on dog food not to long ago. How did RAT poision get in that?? Makes you wonder. My husband and I think that all these people getting cancer now days is due to the food we are eating and the stuff they have in our foods etc. One never knows

I agree with you and your husband. It's all of the junk that somehow gets into our food that is causing all of these diseases.

I heard this, but there is a huge list of things that are being turned away from China because they are not quality, let alone poisoned. The USDA group that monitors imports recently found meat in boxes labeled clothing (which has been an illegal import for many years from China). People ask why this happens. Well, the system used for inspection was built in the 1950s before there was world wide trading. This system has not been upgraded and therefore is very behind the times. It has been a ticking bomb. Granted, they have stopped the import of many many dangerous wares over the years. I read recently (I believe it was in an article on CNN), that a small percentage (I believe is was 20%) of imports are inspected and of the percentage, more than half of things inspected are turned away for various reasons - including boxes not being marked, dirty fruit, etc.

I heard about this too and am appalled. On one hand, I keep asking myself why we (U.S.) would evey import something like toothpaste from China...just like the dog food ordeal...why were we using products from another nation to make something that a living animal would eat? On the other hand, I am amazed that someone, anyone, would actually put something like this in toothpaste. I mean, we are all human.

Oh yes, I started hearing this the other day....What the hell is going on here..I mean who would think a simple common, ordinary everyday product like toothpaste could turn out to be lethal?? Supposedly its not a threat here in America...but then who knows?? I found a link of what this discussion is about http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18841928/

Way back when I was a kid...lol...seriously though, none of this stuff ever happened. I wonder what's going on with this world today?

Unbelievable! I wonder what brand it is. This reminds of the big pet food scare that's been taking place. Whatever it was was causing pets to die, have kidney problems, etc. That freaked me out, because we (the public) dont have any control over this. Those poor defenseless animals...

I just read that the toothpaste isn't here in the US...yet anyway but who's to know that someone doesn't bring some in? It bothers me a lot.

Yes, I had heard about this on the news a day or two ago! What in the world is going on with these producers? You would think that they would have found this problem BEFORE putting it out on the shelves! They should have anyway! You just almost don't want to buy anything else from the stores anymore!

I haven't heard of this, but most toothpaste in general contains SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate) which is a detergent. It's the ingredient responsible for the foaming and it's also the main ingredient in industrial floor cleaner. "They" say that the tiny amount present in toothpaste has never proven to be harmful. I think we'd all be surprised if we started digging deeper into the ingredients of the products we use.
