No we don't, but this is something that bothers me. I do think that every household needs to at least take some baby steps in keeping a survival kit ready to grab. Every time my household talks about it we say yes lets work on that, what ends up happening is that the spare batteries are used up, the flashlights missed placed and not put back, and I worry about the water and food going out of date, so again we end up with nothing. Its been months since I have thought about it untill your post. But man its worries me, it could be anything to happen and we don't have the smallest bit of help from with in our home.
Good post Eaforeman.

I think that we are better off to prepare for the worst.. even if all we can do is put away a can or two here and there....I dont think we can rely on the government completely and we are living in a crazy time in our world....

You are right of course, but what happens to us is that we get lazy. I am not sure how long bottled water can be held, nor do I buy a lot of canned goods so after 6 months I think what we have needs to be used and they are just never replaced. Its laziness. It's not just that a country catastrophe could happen, but here in the south the threat of bad weather can happen at anytime. Thanks my friend for the head up again, its time to put things in order.

Drinking water we don't have a lot on of the non-perishables and such. So we are ok in that regards. Need to get some more propane for the grill but that is minor. It has some just not enough for major outage for long periods. We use the little propane tanks not the big 40 pounder. We have candles, flashlights and batteries so over all we are ok.

I would even recommend ordering the samples and freebies from the free sites as well, for people who may be limited on funds but still want to put something in their storage....

I do have alot of emergency supplies on hand. But not everything I need. because of money wise. I do try to rotate the things I have to keep them from expiring. I do think people need to keep supplies on hand in case something would happen. Extra water and non perishables are a god send when things go wrong in the world. But provisions should be made by the goverment for the poor people who can not provide the essentials needy to survive if a catastrphie would occur.

I think many of us will be trying to build it up over a period of time....but you never know when those can goods and water may save your life.... I hope we all work on doing this because we have to look after ourselves....

As I have already experienced what it is like to live through a hurricane I am all set. I will fill both bathtubs with water when we get a warning.

No, I admit I don't have enough for a real emergency beyond a few days. If A tornado comes, all my food will be blown away. If a flood comes, all my food and supplies will drift away. If an earthquake happens, all my supplies could be caught under rubble and I wouldn't be able to get to them. Hurricanes, Tsunami's and Typhoons don't happen around here. If the electric goes out, I can still get water before it get contaminated. If world war 3 breaks out, it won't matter much what supplies I have. I know there are a thousand other disasters that could happen, but I think I will avoid them as best I can.

I have got a few 2 litters filled with water and we have a few canned food but I dont think enough! I do think we should all have these things for we never know when we may need them! I plan on when I get a job and after getting the bills caught up I will be adding some canned food to the collection. I even have a box of dry milk! I dont really like it but if an emergency came up I will! Thank you for this talk!

i think we should all try to have a special place to store our things like that. I think we should add to it every week. If its just 1 can or one thing, because it will add up....

I do have a few things put back, but not sure it is enough. We have some canned food and bottled water.

We do keep some kanned food in hand other than charge light and batteries. But honestly speaking, I have never keep those items at home thinking of some very bad happening. I keep some canned food and frozen food in hand because if I need emidiately if sometime I run out of time to make food or some very general emergency we face in day to day life. But after reading your discussion, I think we should think about this and should keep some very basic things in hand for such emergency you are saying.

It would be a good idea to have a supply of certain items for emergencies. I always keep candles on hand. My husband always ghas a ready supply of batteries. We have a gas bbq in case of electricity failure. We even have a good store of water if you include our swimming pol.
The one thing I don't have a store of is unperishable food. Your discussion makes me realioe that I should find a plce where I could buy items from time to t8ime & store them.

Where I live, we are very safe from natural disasters and real-life catastrophies. So I feel very safe here, and don't usually have to stock up on any food and essentials. Besides, there are many shops around within close proximity, and should there be any unexpected emergencies, our government will usually take proactive actions to ensure adequate supplies of essential items are available to the people.
But if you live in a place which is more remote, or disasters can strike you unexpectedly, then it is very wise to stock up excess supplies of essential items and medicines. It is also prudent to have an emergency plan in place which you can invoke if a disaster should hit you, instead of waiting for the authorities to act, especially if the situation calls for quick actions to be taken.
