New baby....New things?

Hi We bought most of ourslves. We bought a bassinet playpen for the first few months. All that we needed for the new arrival we bought. The crib was not bought right away, but my mom helped with that purchase. I did not have a baby shower for either one of my kids. a few family members sent clothes, but not very much.

I was fortunate to have most of the items bought for us. My ex-husband's mother was quite doting back then. She was delighted to buy the items that we needed. Later on when I really needed them when I was pregnant for twins, she failed to help out.

I went out and brought so much new stuff.....You soon learn though after the first how much rubbish you simply just do not need.

i was 17 when i had my first baby, my mom bought me a crib small enough for our room at her house, my mom in law and father in law bought us the stroller and car seat, and we had a baby shower to help buy all the other stuff, but everything else we purchased on our own.

When I had my first child, I had just turned 16...without my Mother and other famly members I would never have made it.....I was working so the little things, I was able to buy for myself....I did not actually have a baby shower...but we did have everything that we needed...

I am so thankful that I had a strong female role to help me....I would have been totally lost without her....

I had my first thirty years ago, and most everything was hand me down or used. The crib was from my sister, but to make it fit in the little converted upstairs we had to cut the legs off shorter. That served us in good stead when Vince learned to climb out and fall to the floor. When he was just a few months old my dad had a brand new mattress made for the bed, adult extra firm in a crib size, to see if that would help him sleep, the old one really was crinkly, they used to be covered in plastic. I bought a feeding/playing table, instead of a high chair. It had a seat down inside a little card table size table. No pinched fingers from sliding in the tray. I bought a car seat. I had a very nice shower at the church, and my family made a few things, or bought a few things.

A lot of the big items I have for my daughter are mostly hand me downs. Her crib, changing table, basinet, and playpen were all hand me downs from my little cousin. The only big items I had to buy were a stroller and high chair.

That is very interesting but my two children are much older now and where babies in the early sixties and to be honest I can hardly remember I think from family members,friends and our own resources but it was very inexpensive to buy things back then even though our salaries were lower then to day the dollar bought more in the sixties so it all evened out God Luck

I had a huge baby shower with my first child, even though I had bought much of the stuff I wanted, I had a very successful baby shower because people bought diapers, wipes, clothes, so it was kind of nice. I bought the big ticket items and they bought the essentials. For my second child, we didnt have a baby shower. We were going to be moving and I didnt want a bunch of junk. I requested people either give a gift card or something practical. That worked out pretty well too, some people were mad we didnt want a big party but they got over it. My father in law made us a beautiful changing table so that was nice too

My husband and I hardly bought anything. My daughter is almost six months and so far I have only bought a few of the less expensive items that she has needed. I didn't have a baby shower due the circumstances of my pregnancy, but my parents and friends have bought everything else.
