Do you grow trees? |
| |
| Are they fruit trees or ornamentals? Is there one that is your favorite? I got my favorite tree as a seedling, given away free at a Lawn, Home, and Garden Show. My friend and I took our kids. Each child was given a free seedling. I had two, but failed to keep one alive when we moved. This tree is about twenty three years old, it is a blue spruce. I have lots of other trees, some were here, some I planted, some came as volunteers, but that one remains my favorite. | | | | | |

| | Call me when the pies are ready. I have had some people tell me that city folk should not plant fruit trees, but I do it anyway. Double duty, shade and food. | | | |

| | I've planted trees lots of times over the years. With the birth of each grandchild, I plant a tree that is 'their tree', and somehow it starts fostering their love of trees too. I also used to get balled and burlapped Christmas trees every year and plant them. Now I'm into starting shrubs and trees from transplants and multiplying techniques. Last fall I started forsythia, Ibex (holly), and catalpa tree for my daughter & her husbands new house. There's a few trees on our farm here that are huge and were my Dad's and Uncles Christmas trees from when they were young in the 1920's. I have a large woods on the farm that is what's termed 'virgin woods,' meaning that the trees there are extremely old and in their natural state. Sometimes I take seedlings from that area and move them up to the front of the property to grow so that I can enjoy seeing them every day. It's nice that you're showing children the appreciation for trees and for starting & keeping them growing. They are natural defences in the fight against pollution...plus they're just pretty! | | | | | | |

| | I love the thought of your place. I have lots of memories of trees at my homes growing up and at my grandparent's home. I have only owned two homes, but the first thing I always have done is start planting trees and woody shrubs. I have lots of Rose of Sharon (althea). Up and down both sides of my driveway. | | | |

| | GardenGerty, you are doing great with the posts. Glad to see you doing it sugar. I don't grow a darn thing in this desert that I live in. But, when I was in Florida, I grew fig trees, oranges and grapefruits. | | | | | | |

| | Two years ago this fall we travelled to Columbia, Missouri, to a Chestnut Roast, actually a celebration of the American Chestnut, or rather some other varieties, I guess. It was educational, and fun. I would love to own a few acres and grow some myself. | | | |

| | The only tress I have in my yard are banana trees. They are very useful. We also use the leaves in many ways and they serve as shades to us. I dont have any ornamental trees around me and I envy my neighbors who have Indian Trees or Mango Trees in their yards. | | | | | | |
