Mopping the Floor |
|
Every client I have has a different mop. The one I find most effective is the string mop. It lasts longer than conventional sponge mops and covers a larger area faster than the sponge. There are some like the Libman mop that has a cylander that you push down over the mop to wring it out. I love it that my hands don't touch the mop. The problem is that the mop isn't as good as a traditional string mop. I remember using old cloths as a mop head. Old socks can be recycled as a mop head too. The cotton ones clean very well. What is your preference?

1. ljegbers (5764) | 1 year ago | I've tried a series of different mops and have to say I still prefer a bucket, scrub brush and the old sock. Mops can trap bacteria and if not cleaned properly will have a musty smell. I think part of it is I know how clean I'm getting my floor because I'm not using anything else to clean it.

2. huswyf (757) | 1 year ago | I prefer the old-fashiond string mops. They last really well and can even be cleaned in the washing machine. I don't touch mine with my hands, just use the wringer in the bucket.

ElusiveButterfly (8473) | 1 year ago | I often will put the mop outside in a rainstorm to let it wash out completely. Also letting it dry out between uses helps keep the mustiness out.

3. GardenGerty (13403) | 1 year ago | I think I have one of every kind of mop, and I have yet to find the one I am looking for, a mop that uses itself LOL. My problem is that I do not have that much to mop. I did buy a string mop recently, because my plan was to recycle old clothes and towels that are in too bad a shape to donate to GoodWill. I also like that you can run them through the washer and clean them up again and reuse for quite some time. Granny had a string mop. My mom used to use a Stanly mop, it was some kind of a foamy strings.

ElusiveButterfly (8473) | 1 year ago | One of my client's use a sponge mop and the floor that I have to mop is slate, the kitchen is huge, they have 4 dogs and 2 cats, raise horses and it takes me forever to get the floor clean. I am going to suggest they get a string mop so it doesn't take me so long to get the task done. I would use the sponge mop for the wood floors only.

ElusiveButterfly (8473) | 1 year ago | There is a market for it Sunshinecup. I know many who have started a business of their own and make good money at it. Maybe one day I could do the same, but I don't intend to do this forever.

5. susaneverson (4802) | 1 year ago | I mostly get down on my hands and knees and use an old cotton or terrycloth rag. But if I mop up after supper than I use a cheap dollar sponge mop. I can replace the sponge often and bleach the H*ll out of it if my neices kids or my gradnchildren spill body fluids. Her kids are still very small and so are my grandkids. I am a lazy housekeeper and will find the easiest way that have no affect on my allergies. Susan

| 6. HereLiesSlobe (69) | 1 year ago | I really DON'T like mopping the floor with anything...when ever I mop, it seems as if nothing has been accomplished anyway. I like using cloths and just getting on my knees and washing the floor with that...since I don't like how hair and stuff gets stuck in a mop (wet hairs on the ground are one of the grossest things ever). Also, that way you can apply pressure with your hands to get off stains a lot more effectivly than if you use a mop.

7. villageanne (5762) | 1 year ago | Cotton mops not only clean better but they absorb better also. I have solid oak floors all over my home and water will ruin them rapidly. I have to be very careful and keep them oiled down and free of water. I only use a cotton mop. I have found that the industrial mops with replaceable heads are the very best mop on the market but you need to also purchase a mop ringing bucket. That is about 40-50 bucks but they will last for years and years. Easy on the hands and the back.

8. suspenseful (12099) | 1 year ago | I like the kind of mop where you do not have to bend down and squeeze it and I do not like getting on my hands and knees. I have this combination sponge mop and brush. But I do not like it because it has that sponge and sponge mops rot. I wanted to get one of the squeezy string type mops, but I also need something to remove the black stuff like gum and sticky stuff. My husband shops with me and he is in charge so he decided I had better get the combo sponge mop. Have any of you had that problem?

9. Willowlady (9144) | 1 year ago | That old string mop is my absolute favorite. I can clean easily or use some force for a stubborn spot. Cleaning in the factory where I work that mop takes cae of greasy spots, spills of pop and other things. It is really easy to rinse out and the wringer on the bucket is awesome. Just need to change the water often. That could come easier. Rubbermaid has those wringer mop buckets and they are worth every penny.

10. Modestah (7413) | 1 year ago | I am with you on this subject, I so prefer the string mop - especially if it is a good and full cotton mop, some of them can be rather wimpy. The cotton fibers just really gather up the water and mess - I like the way it glides and feels like you are really cleaning. I really like to use them with a mop bucket and wringer! but do not mind so much wringing by hand. I have also saved old cotton socks with holes and whatnot for attaching to a mop and it makes a useful quick mop. I suppose the most effective style of mopping is on the hands and knees, also gives us the best workout, but my knees just can not take it anymore.
