My knees have been killing me lately, not what you are thinking! |
|
No its not what you think I havent been on my knees brown nosing with the boss or anything else for that matter. But lately when I wake up every morning I get out of bed and my knees are stiff and sore. I havent changed anything in my daily routine so I am hoping this isnt something that I just have to look forward to now that I am past fourty. After I get moving and about an hour goes by I dont seem to feel sore anymore just when I first wake up. Does anyone else have this problem?

1. razcal2267 (7466) | 1 year ago | You are not alone. I not only have the stiffness and sore knees when I first wake up I also have them when I try to stand after sitting for a half an hour or more. I am a few years away from forty and if this is the fun I have to look forward to I will be living on Aleve for the rest of my life. The joys of getting older.

EvanHunter (1291) | 1 year ago | Dont know about the joy part of getting older but it sounds like it might be I need to do some more walking to get things circulating better. I am not big on taking any medication other than asprin my mother takes tons of medication for this and that and I have always dreaded the idea of ending up doing the same when I am older.

3. redyellowblackdog (2845) | 1 year ago | Yes, my wife has the same problem. It's probably just that you are getting older. Things that might help are taking more walks for exercise, asprin, glucosamine chondroitin, and flaxseed oil. The flaxseed oil will take at least 2 months to have an effect, if it even helps at all. Having a doctor do an XRAY is not a bad idea just on the off chance it is not simply that you are getting older.

EvanHunter (1291) | 1 year ago | I have heard fish oil, I dont know exactly what kind, but is suppose to help with your joints also. Sitting in a chair all day doesnt help with circulation too I am sure.

4. sunshinecup (5952) | 1 year ago | *sigh* Mine is my back. Every morning the muscles are stiffer than a board and I have to shuffle my feet for the first 15 minutes just to go to the kitchen. I am afraid mine is old age, but yours not sure. If it gets worse you may want to have them checked out in case it's early signs of something.

EvanHunter (1291) | 1 year ago | I used to have back problems like crazy but when I was doing this one construction job I fell off of a structure about 30-40 feet in the air. I landed on my butt on a beam about 8-10 feet below, thank god. I pulled alot of muscles but ever since than my back has felt great believe it or not!

5. redyellowblackdog (2845) | 1 year ago | Omega 3 fish oil is absolutely good for your heart. I don't know about your knees and joints. There now are scientific studies most doctors will even agree demonstrate conclusively that omega 3 fish oil is good for your health, your heart in particular. This not to say that it won't help joints like the knees or that it will. There's just not proof yet of which I'm aware. I get my omega 3 fish oil at WAL-MART. It's the cheapest easiest source I've found so far.

EvanHunter (1291) | 1 year ago | That must be where I got that from. maybe I was confused about what it was for. I know I have been borderline high blood pressure for the past 8 years but it isnt always up sometimes its normal and sometimes its borderline. Usually my kids know when they are really making me mad caue they say the blood vein sticks out in my forehead. Thats how they know when its time to shut up or they are going to get it..lol.

redyellowblackdog (2845) | 1 year ago | If you also have blood pressure problems there certainly is nothing to lose by using the fish oil. Who knows, maybe it'll help the joints, too.

6. crystalhailie (137) | 1 year ago | it could be you slept wrong sleep with a pillow in between your legs. Or it could be u pulled something muscles not thinking what you did. If it doesnt stop i would go to a docter because there are cases that you have fluid or muscles or joints that cause problems with age and they have precedures that help and all. I would defently get an oppion from the docter i dont your age but thinks start messing up and all and it sucks. But good luck and i hope that you find out everything and get everuything straight and all.

deebomb (6738) | 1 year ago | I worked in a bean packageing ware house and spent 8 hours a day on my feet on cement for 11 years. If I had known back then about the properties of Flax seed oil I probably could have prevented a lot of the damage to my knees and hands. It may not help but it certenly will not do any harm. It may take a couple of months to show any real relief so don get discouraged. I have to take several arthritis meds and it takes almost that long the med to get built up enough for me to get any benefits from it and it is the same way with the oil.

10. vmks31 (7459) | 1 year ago | Best and Worst Exercises for Bad Knee by Michele Stanten Exercise may be the best medicine for chronic achy knees. "Strengthening the muscles around the joint protects you from injury by decreasing stress on the knee," says Willibald Nagler, MD, chairman of rehabilitation medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Campus in New York City. But you must use good form and technique. The First Commandment Never bend your legs to a point where your knees stick out past your toes. That puts a lot of pressure under the kneecap. This not only applies to the following exercises but also when you're stretching or doing aerobic activities such as step aerobics. Except where stated, do 10 to 12 repetitions of each of the following, two or three times a week. Best Exercises to Do Partial Squats Stand about 12 inches away from the front of a chair with your feet about hip width apart and your toes forward. Bending at the hips, slowly lower yourself halfway down to the chair. Keep your abs tight, and check that your knees stay behind your toes. Stepups Using an aerobic step bench or a staircase, step up onto the step with your right foot. Tap your left foot on the top of the step, and then lower. As you step up, your knee should be directly over your ankle. Repeat with your left foot. Side-lying Leg Lifts Wearing ankle weights above the knee, lie on your left side, legs straight and together, with your left arm supporting your head. Keeping your right foot flexed and your body straight, slowly lift your right leg to about shoulder height, then slowly lower. Repeat with your left leg.

EvanHunter (1291) | 1 year ago | Good info thanks for the news clip. I know when I was younger they used to have us do deep knee bends all the time in the army. By the time I was getting ready to get out they was a big controversy over the long term damage they might be doing.
