Is spanking ok?  

I belive in spanking a child not beating a child . There is a night day difference between the two.As
Christian parents we should be spanking our children
as the Holy Spirit as our guide.

I try alot of things first before spanking them but yes sometimes I think it's ok. Mine get grounded from things they love. Then the older ones have to write for hours out of our books or whatever handy. Putting them in a corner doesn't work. Usually they get to do more chores. They really hate it. I spank them if they try to hurt the other one. It has to be something really bad for them to get spanked.

I think you just need to be consistent. Explain to the kids why they can't eat in their rooms and thet they'll be spanked if they do. If they disobey you, they know what the consequence will be.

I have three children. They are 21, 17 and 14. None of them has ever been spanked, nor will they ever be spanked. If they take food in their rooms, they get to clean their room from top to bottom, which includes getting rid of any bugs or rodents that have made themselves at home. If they do not complete the task in a specific amount of time, then they get to pay Mom to complete it for them... I charge $10 an hour, and I take my time, so that it takes me at LEAST two hours. That was never a problem more than once!!

Yes, I'm a firm believer in spanking a child. I spanked all my children up to the age of 7. I feel after that they were old enough to understand consquences and take responsiblity for their behavior.

The snacks, plate and cups in the rooms bothered me too, so enforced a strick rule of only eating in the kitchen. I sat down with them everytime they ate to enforce it. If I left the house, I locked the treats up in the cupboard. This way they knew I had to be home to enjoy them AND it also made them realize that they had to respect the rules if they were to be considered trustworthy.

i do not belive in spanking, it is even illegal here in my country and is considered to be childabuse.
I belive that is why I feel it is wrong. if I had grown up somewhere and it was legal my views might have been different. however I was never spanked and I turned out just fine =)

As a child i was spanked/pinched by my dad, personally looking back i think it was for the best, kinda told me what i could do and couldnt, stopped me from doing certain things which i shouldnt because i asscioated it with pain. Teaches kids what can happen if they don't listen as long as it is for their best interests. But you gotta make sure you don't spank them too much or harshly.
If i have kids i probably would spank for simply the above reasons.

NO absolutly not i dont think using spanking or any type of physical violence is helpful to the child in most of circumstances .. it might be helpful but only in very rare situations.

In my opinion, there are other ways to dicipline your children other than striking them. Call it spanking, but in reality it is a big person hitting a little person. I will in no way tell anyone their parenting techniques are wring unless there is abuse.

For the most part I think spanking is harmless. I was spanked, and I was harmed on more than one occasion. I think some parents can go overboard and hit the kids out of anger. My dad was a great dad, but when he was mad enough to spank us he was a bear and really hurt me. He broke my coccyx bone where I sit down by throwing me on the floor after trouncing me to an inch of my life.

For the most part, parents don't behave that way toward their children. My question would be: Where does a parent draw the line? Do they spank while they are angry? Do they let their emotions carry them away hitting their child? If the answer is yes, I think they should never raise a hand to their child.

I think if you are going to raise your child in a "no spank" home, you have to start out and be consistent. I think you have to mean what you say and say what you mean. When a child doesn't do what you want, then there has to be consequences. The child has to know those consequences. If the parent is consistent, the child has no other option than to comply because he/she will lose privileges. I think for the no spank method to work, you have to start when they are little.

It is becoming unacceptable now a days to spank your children. In some states a parent cannot spank at all. I try to think about it like this. I would not hit my boss or neighbor or any other adult because they did not do what I wanted them to do... I show them respect. I feel children deserve respect too. I don't feel that spanking a child is necessary if the parents are willing to learn other ways to parent. Old habits die hard. We feel because we were spanked and even beaten at times, it didn't hurt us... but did it really help us either. It didn't teach me anything except to fear my dad and to grow up hating him. It took a long time to forgive him for the treatment he inflicted on me.

I think there is always the chance of going overboard when hitting your kids. I know that my view is not a popular one, and people will think I am too lenient. They will probably attack me for my beliefs, but they are what they are. I cannot change that. I respect everyone else who believes differently that I do.

We do occasionally spank our children, but it is reserved for the most severe punishment. Some parents spank for everything and/or out of anger. We try many other forms of punishment first and most of the time they get the point before it comes to spanking. I was spanked as a child, although rare, and I am not a violent or angry person. My son is 7 and at his age there are things that affect him more than spanking, like taking away privileges. I do think it should be a last resort and not be done out of anger. If we spank our children, we talk about it afterwards and make sure they understand why they got a spanking. I know many parents do not agree, but this is what works in our home.
