Personally I love the real ones myself. But some of the silk versions are so realistic and gorgeous, plus they last for forever (or close enough). Now, if someone were to put those stupid plastic flowers on my grave, I would just have to come back to life and kick their butts from one end of the universe to the other! LOL

Hi, yes both have their own place. Now a days even the artificial flowers available are as good as real, and we have some perfumed ones in the market as well, making them even smell like the real ones!
But if given a choice,i would always go for the real flowers, as theres nothing as beautiful, fresh and lovely as fresh flowers, that brighten up our day, and smell so fresh and nice always. But i would use these to decorate my house and knowing that they have a small shelf life and i cannot keep them for a long time, i also do have artificail ones placed at different corners of my house, which are always there and make the room look bright forever. They have their ever lasting quality too, unlike the fresh ones. So i normally use a combination of both of them in my house.

I do think that real flowers have an extra glow to them that you can't see in the fake ones.

I think so too Lakota. They look very nice and last a long time. My first husband is buried 4 states away from me. I used to go every year, and my daughter would pick dandy lions to put on his grave.

To tell you the truth, I only like the scent of very few real flowers, and think all the rest smell way too strong. Also, real ones drop petals everywhere, and hidden bugs can emerge from them, ready to flit around, making you think your seeing spots before your eyes. So I guess what I'm trying to say is the dust smelling fakes are ok to me, if they at least look real.

Wow! Muscare, you have it all figured out don't you?...lol..I would hope there aren't any bugs flitting around in my flowers.

Hello Feona1962,
I am really relieved to get to read your new discussion! Talking about flowers, to be honest to you, I don't like flowers at all. Oh, please don't ask me the reason why as I also don't know why. I always hear people say that this flower smells good, that one smells not so good but for me, they are the same. I don't like the smell of the flowers. Amazing huh?
OK, if given me a choice, I think I would love to have real flowers rather than artificial ones. For me, the real ones look so good and beautiful though I don't like the smell *smiles*

Hi gr8life, how are you? It is okay if you don't like flowers. I like them but don't have many in my house.

I have observed that most old ladies prefer real flowers to artificial ones. Perhaps because of some superstitious beliefs :P
Personally, I have no preference. I do not like flowers. I do not like artificial ones simply because they are artificial. I do not like real ones because they wilt rather fast.

I love real flowers but on graves artificial would be the best unless you can change the real ones every week.If she doesn't want fake flowers I sure wouldn't use them!lol

Hi Feona1962! There are a lot of artificial flowers that looks like the real ones nowadays and I find them really beautiful. I do like real flowers too because I could smell nature and freshness in them. I guess, I both like them. they both have their own qualities and appeal. Take care and have a nice day!

Well Feona, there is a saying in my family: "Fake flowers only for the graveyard", and we do not even place them there. Even though they look real, I cannot place them in a vase at home, and would be feeling like cheating my loved once in the graveyard as well, if I was to place these on their graves.

Give me the real ones please! I only use artificials on myself usually for painting, sketching. I couldn't stand to give artificials to anyone.

As far as for grave sites, real as long as the weather will support them. In the colder days then artificails are fine by me. But in the hjouse I love real flowers and their aroma throughout the house.

I do like the real ones in the house because of the smell. My family always put real flowers on my husbands grave. He is buried 4 states away from me so my Aunt takes care of his grave and they use real flowers.

I like both depending on where I put them. I had some great wall decorations and instead of using real plants I used silk. My hubby buys me flowers about once a month so we usually have a nice vase full of fresh flowers around too.
As far as putting silk flowers on my grave, it's the thought that counts.. not like I'm gonna care much anyway. LOL

Hi there. Personally, I like real flowers myself... There are also some really impressive looking artificial flowers out there too... I know, my grandmother has alot of artificial flowers that she uses for her hobbie crafts... I prefer real flowers that I can water and maintain...

I like both. I like the smell of real flowers, but i hate the fact that they die. Artificial ones last, you dont have to worry about them dying. I agree with you about the artificial ones look so real these days. Some are absolutely beautiful
Best wishes to you, feona
