Are you a natural born collector?

I never intend to collect things, but I have quite a few collections that I started just because I liked something: Depression era glassware, books, wooden boxes, pottery. What do you collect? How did you start? Did you decide to collect something or did it just happen?

Mostly crafting books and reading books. I love to read. Some of my books have been with me since I was a kid. I'd love to get a nice big wooden bookshelf and fill it with my favorite books. I also collect cookbooks...I have some that go back to the early 1900's. !!HAPPY EASTER!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I have so many books that I have finally started weeding them out. Cookbooks are a really popular thing to collect, and something you can always sell if need be.

I love collecting knick-knacks. I have so many that there's no longer anymore space for them all. I also love collecting candles, DVD's and all types of books. I'm really proud of my movie and book library and am usually the one my family and friends come to when they want to borrow movies. They like to say "Who needs Blockbuster when we have you?" LOL

I want to come to your house! I love movies and go to Blockbuster just about every weekend. I buy movies too, but with all my other collections, I try not to get in over my head, the way I do with books.

My house is full of Buddhas and books! I have Buddhas all over the house - I think at last count I had about 50. All shapes and sizes, some porcelain, wood, onyx, etc. I think I bought one for myself years ago because I really liked it and then people just started giving me them as presents. I love them though so that's ok. As for books I have a bookcase in every room except the bathroom. I do give them away once I've read them but I just keep buying more and more lol!

I'm there with you and the books. I am just re-reading a great book called "Book Finds" about collecting and selling books (first editions) and it just makes me want to go out there and get even more books. I trade some on PaperbackSwap and give books away to my friends, but I've always got more coming in than going out. I like the Buddha collection idea, it's really unique. I like them too, although I don't have any. I once house-sat for these diplomats who had traveled all over Asia and they had some great Buddhas and other religious statues (Indians have a lot of gods I don't know). They were so beautiful. Not many people have sculptures in their homes (statues or otherwise), and it's a beautiful thing to add.

Well, the main thing I have been collecting since I was a lot younger is Bears. I have many stuffed bears of all kinds including Beanie Babies. I actually still find myself adding to that collection all the time. I also collect Monkeys, but am a little more pickier as to what ones I will add to my collection. And then Angels is another one I collect, but my collection is quite sparse. Would Love to have more of them and maybe an Eagle or two as well.

Sounds like you are a real animal lover! Bears is such a popular category, too.

For me it just happened. I have always love either stuffed bunnies or glass ones. Anything that is a bunny. So now I have bunnies all over my house and even on the outside.

I like that. It seems like a good thing to collect. I never could understand the frog phenomenon...but bunnies, definitely!

I was never into collecting things until a couple of years ago. Now I collect snow globes, stuffed animals, candles, candle holders, and pretty paper weights. I have more stuffed animals now than I have the room for. You know those games at grocery stores where you put 50 cents in and guide the claw to pick the stuffed animal up and drop it in the hole where you pick it up? My first stuffed animals was from my husband playing that game and now he is hooked on it so I have about 30 or 40 stuffed animals because he is excellent at the claw game! Now I am having a hard time finding places for all of them. They are so cute too! Oh and I do collect books too. Anything by Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Danielle Steele! My husband collects really cool stuff too! He is a big fan of Pittsburgh Steelers and collects anything that has to do with the Steelers. He also loves anything with the American Flag and Eagle's and collects things with beautiful Eagles on them. And he collects cool lighters. I forgot to mention that I collect lighters also. They sell these butane lighters at our gas station up town and when you light it, t glows different colors! It is very pretty! When I was little I did collect anything and everything pink. I forgot all about that until now, lol. :)

My brother used to play that claw game all the time, too. He used to give the toys to his dog, who loved to chew them up and pull all the stuffing out. Now, however, he has a different dog, so he gave the game up. I like the idea of collecting things in a certain color (like pink). That way you can have a variety of things, not just one.
