Ground hogs in the yard |
| |
| i never knew about ground hogs before and i don't even know how they look like and what they really are. My hunney just said it's in our yard creating holes and he hates it. he even said that he'll shot it once he sees one. From then on, i knew that we need to get rid of ground hogs cause they are destructive to our yard. i never really seen one that close only from far away cause my husband said we should hide because it will just run away if it sees us. i couldn't believe though how big they are so i am also scared to also take a closer look of ground hogs. i just think from far away that they don't look good. hehehehe just a guess. but anyway, i hope anyone here do know about ground hogs and can advice us how what's the best way to get rid of it cause it's causing us trouble repairing our yard. I hope they will not just come back anymore and just stay in the hole where they came from then we won't have a problem. :) | | | | | |

| | Groundhogs are a real pest & quite tough. As I see you've got a dog so you won't want to use any kind of poisons since he might get into it. You could get a humane cage type trap & bait it with vegitables. That way should your dog find his way into it you can simply release him. Your right not to get to close if threatened they can be pretty nasty. | | | | | | |

| | If you are lucky, you only have ground hogs in your yard. More likely you also have raccoons, opposums, rabbits, deer, feral cats and wandering dogs. Most places that have ground hogs, have these other things, too! What my wife and I do is that we trained our dog to stay at home but let him run loose. He chases all the critters that dare come by. Mostly they do not come back. This way I do not have to shoot anything except for the rare problem animal that fights with my animals. Unfortunately, that has happened. BTW: I recently purchased a live trap. These work very well. You will need at least a medium size one to catch a ground hog. | | | | | | |

| | That little thing in her pic dosen't look like he'd be able to scare off any of the groundhogs like I used to see on my grandparents place. They were about his size. | | | |

| | LOL... you are right! That is too little dog for any self respecting ground hog to run from. Maybe they have a pacifist ground hog? | | | |

| | oh no, i wouldn't allow my cute puppy to even get close to that ground hogs cause it's much bigger than her and they are ugly looking, nasty, dirty, yucky and gross. they might fight back and hurt my "baby jackie". i don't want that to happen! hehehe.. | | | |

| | Since groundhogs are not common to you book of knowledge this might help a little .. The groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as the woodchuck, land beaver, or whistlepig, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots. Most marmots, such as yellow-bellied and hoary marmots, live in rocky and mountainous areas, but the woodchuck is a lowland creature. It is widely distributed in North America and common in the northeastern and central United States. In the west it is found only in Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, and northern Washington. | | Yep they are destructive. We call them woodchucks too. My brother would shoot them to keep them out of the garden and out of the field making holes. | | | | | | |
