Owen Wilson no longer a good actor?

I agree with you. Many times people don't look at actors or anyone in the spotlight as real people. They're a form of entertainment.

As you said we all go through things and unfortunately because they are looked at under a microscope they (I think) have a harder time bouncing back after a fall.

In his situation I wouldn't stop seeing his movies, he is a hoot and I really enjoy watching him play those silly characters. There are others however that I wouldn't even consider.

I agree with you sunshinecup. Actors are people just the same as anyone else; we all have our ups and downs throughout life, and they are no different. Owen Wilson must just be going through a bad patch in his life at the moment and we should be understanding towards that. What he has done is a cry for help, and it certainly wouldn't put me off him as an actor.

I think it's disgusting that our "role models" are acting like this all the time - and nothing is done about it! You hear every day how one celebrity or another has done something illegal - usually involving drugs and/or alchohol. And nothing happens to them - oh, except Paris Hilton, and she got tons of media out of that stint. I'm sure we'll hear from her again.

I think celebrities feel they are privelidged and don't have to abide by the same rules as anyone else since they have the money to get themselves out of these situations.

I do understand how you feel that some problems such as depression should give them an automatic free ticket on their actions, but they have the money and resources to take care of the problem in a legitimate way but they almost always turn to illegal actions and blame it on their current problems. Well, us "normal" people have problems too and a lot of us use our health insurance benefits and/or family/friends to solve them. And of the "normal" people that turn to drugs/alchohol, we tend to scorn them.

I don't mean to sound harsh, I'm just SOOO tired of all the sympathy that rich people get because they have so many "problems" that us "normal" people deal with every day.

I think, like you, that it depends on the happenings in his/her personal life...if its an abuse thing or a serious offence against someone else for example then YES the damage is done and I'm no longer interested in seeing that persons work (though thats not to say the "quality" of their acting has gotten any worse...its their rep that gets slaughtered IMO)...but in the Wilson case..no not at all..in fact it would/will make me MORE inclinded to see his movies etc simply becuase doing what he does for a living as IMO affected him in such a manner ya know..he puts himself through thsi hell in order to please us to some extent ya know...

It is hard to partition one's personal life from one's career because it's the same person involved whether we are talking about his work or his life, the two in a way cross and blend.

Although we hear many times this being said that your personal life should remain personal and should not in any way affect your work or career. In the case of celebrities, I think people have always a way of knowing their private lives, every nitty-gritty of their actors' privacy, that stories oftentimes affect their movies' performance.

Personally, I think it should not, but this is something that can't be prevented.

I feel so bad about Owen Wilson. I loved him in Meet the Parents, You Me and Dupree and Night at the Museum. I hope he gets the help he needs and can someday go back to acting. His personal problems don't affect my view of him as an actor at all. I think the media should give him the privacy he needs right now. My prayers are with him!

People are people. It doesn't matter what walk of life they are from. We are all human. Humans make mistakes. The sad part of a celebrities life is that everything they do is plastered all over the media for public viewing.

hi sunshinecup,i agree with you..for personal issues nobody should go for boycotting any artist..as in a case of owen wilson we like him as an actor(i really appreciate him) and for us he is a very good performer..we are only related to him like an audience and an actor..if he has been facing problems in his personal life due to which he tried to commit suicide then this accident should not be seen as a predictor of his weaker personality because he had problems and he might not be able to face them or bear them so he wanted to end his life because of the troubles and circumstances only and any normal person can attempt it if he/she is mentally upset..and relating his family life problems and his escape routes whatever they may be to his professional life doesn't look healthy..his personal life is totally different from his movie appearances as is with every actor or actress and we are concerned with him mainly for his acting..as a human being also we are related to him and for that reason we should support him rather than criticizing him or blaming his acting..you are right he has not abducted or tortured any child nor he is an addict(although that would be his personal life)..so till somebody is not causing any harm to others i don't think he should be ever boycotted and in such conditions like in which owen was living everybody should have helped him and all he needed and needs is support..am not saying that anybody should personally try to vanish or solve his problems as it s not possible and doesn't look civilized too till he allows us or is known to us but at least people should not show over reactions to his act and also should not bring his acting into this stuff if they can not try to find the real cause of his condition and so be a bit sympathetic..

The only thing that I thought when I heard the news was how very sad it was. I would not look at him any differently except to hope that he is working to resolve his problems and getting better. There are other actors out there that have revealed a bit too much about their personal lives that it is hard to distinguish them from the person they are portraying in the movies. For instance, Tom Cruise, I find it difficult now to see the person he's playing instead I see him jumping up and down on Oprah's couch. With enough time, and no more weird acts or interviews and I will probably begin to see him in his roles again. Shame, because I think he's a great actor.
Owen Wilson, however, has not sullied his image with me!!
