Do you think he was a truly great singer?

To be honest I was never much of an opera fan, but my mother was...she was into some of the greats... Joan Sutherland, Maria Callas, Beverly Sills (also deceased now). Placido Domingo and of course Luciano Pavarotti...I actually met him at a book signing of his autobiography at a book store years ago, about twenty-five?? I also took some photos of him (black and white)...And while not a fan of opera in general, I recognized a great voice when I heard it

I was never a big Opera fan, either, but I would single out Pavarotti and Kiri te Kanawa as the two singers who made it possible for me to enjoy it more.

Luciano Pavarotti - May he rest in peace
My first reaction this morning was "oh no...not another one!".....then I started thinking about what an awesome talent he was. I'm not into Opera but he did do some singing with people out of the opera community too. I especially remember him doing a duet with Willie Nelson. The man was truly a great singer.

Yes, he did spread his talent into other fields - and, I believe, because he was genuinely interested in the music. I respect him for that.

He was good singer I'm not sure if I'd say great. What he did was great, introducing younger people to real music.

I think you are right that he has, perhaps, done more than most to introduce Opera to people by meeting them halfway - and on ground that he had a genuine respect for.

I was never a huge opera fan, even when I was singing opera in school, but Pavoratti was one of my favorites. He was a wonderfully, gifted tenor with an amazing career. All of the Three Tenor concerts were great also. When I heard of his passing, I decided I needed to try to buy some of my favorite comic operas he was in to watch.

He is a great singer in his generation. I am not into his music so it is difficult for me to tell. But to the young once like Josh Groban he is really an icon. Many people into his music was really inspired by his talent. We lost another jewel.
