What are you gathering right now?

I'm gathering mostly wild apples and mint for food. Leaves for color and to add to my display table at work. Soon I'll be gathering grapes. What do you gather in the fall?

I am jealous! You must have gardens of some sort? Well, I live in one of the most populated cities in the world and so imagine that I wouldn't be really close to nature too much. I wish someday I could have a garden of my own and I could have fun planting everything I love! That's going to be so cool!

Oh you guys have a house but we live in darn tiny apartments here and it can bearly holds everything furniture we need. My mom loves gardening but it's too bad that she can't do it in Hong Kong due to the lack of space! But who knows where I would live in! If I have a garden of my own, then it would be a mix of different crazy things grown together *laughs*!

I understand. I used to live in a tiny trailer. When I closed my window, I didn't even have a window sill. My Aunt had the most ingenious thing. It was like a step-laddar and she put plants on that near her window. Really got window and she could only grow cactus indoors. Hated going near it though, I always got the point!

Can you do a windowsill garden? Some herbs don't grow very big. Some cities even have vacant lot gardens and roof top ones. Windowsill gardens with herbs are lots of fun. They usually sell kits for them in the spring, but that's here in the US. I keep meaning to look up your profile again so I can remember where you're from. But window sill gardens or planter box ones can be grown anywhere. I've had relatives with some pretty big indoor gardens. Maybe you can give it a try that way. Then you can tell us what you harvest next year! SMILE (Where there is a will, there is a way).

I have a dwarf apple tree in my yard that gives me such a harvest that I don't have time for much more! But I do like to gather seed from my other plants and spread it around... I don't believe I will ever have too many columbine or lupines! I dry the mints and other herbs from my 'porch garden', the 50-odd pots I tend. I pull my cherry tomato plants and hang them upside-down in a protected area so I have tomatoes for at least a month after! And next big windstorm--- its pine, cedar and fir cones to use at Christmas.

fruit, veggie, flowers, whatever category mint comes under, herbs, and pine cones/seeds/crafts. You've got tame and wild gathering covered! Thanks for the response.

I may have had to make my territory smaller, but I sure didn't want it barren! I can still cook, and I love having everything I need, fresh or dried, right THERE!

I think porch gardens are great! You can garden no matter what the weather is doing outside in summer. Container gardens are great. Have you tried your mint fresh? I like it even better than dry and it does wonders with apple juice in a jelly.

Right now I'm still gathering tomatoes, but I dug potatoes today, so it's definitely a change of season. I gathered plums from my little tree this year and later on, I want to gather "weeds" for a big fall bouquet. I also gathered wild sunflower seeds to feed the birds in the winter.

Good variety, veggies, fruit, weeds for a craft, and seeds for the birds. Nice, very nice, good!
