How 'supportive' would you be? |

Last Sunday evening, the "High School Musical 2" made its premier on our Disney Channel. All my children are great fans of the 1st. movie, and were really, really looking forward to this 2nd.movie... including my 1st. daughter, who is studying at a 'semi'-boarding school - and stays in a hostel, provided by the school. The school only allows them to come home every fortnightly, and last week - WAS NOT - the weekend they were allowed to come home. When we go visit my daughter on that sunday afternoon, she had this very sad, unhappy look... and really got me worried. When asked, she said she had hurt her knee doing aerobics that morning, BUT IT WAS NOTHING I SHOULD WORRY ABOUT. Fine... (I thought). When we were about to leave... she cried.. "I wanna go home!"... I was really worried then, thinking that she might have had a fight with the other girls, or something as similarly horrible had happened... And she finally let out: "I wanna watch High School Musical 2 tonite!"... Cissshhhhhhh! I was worried that something horrible had happened, and she was thinking HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL?? Anyway... if you had seen that look on her face... you wouldnt have the heart to leave her. So... guess what i did?! I went to see the warden... my daughter in-tow... smiled very sweetly - and very, very nicely asked her permission to take my daughter home that night, so that i could take her to see a doctor for the "injured knee"... THE WARDEN SAID OK. (I guess she didnt want to be responsible if the knee got swollen, or something worse). My daughter was soooooo happy, and seems like she ran with same 'injured knee' to get her things.
My husband, although was also worried about her knee, didnt quite agree with what i did. But i didnt do anything bad - i didnt lie... her knee was hurting, and I DID take her to see a doctor and get medicines for her knee.... It was just a COINCIDENCE the new movie premiered on tv that seme evening. What do you think... would you have done the same?
*ps... the hostel only allow tv at certain hours, the movie was aired during 'study-hour'.

I watched high school musical too,I myself was glued in the Disney channel that night and If I had a daughter I would be sad for her if she had not been able to see that.:) maybe most of moms here would not agree..I am not yet a mom but I think those small pleasures..I can't deny my daughter.
So good of your daughter to tell you honestly what she feels and why she's so sad..:)you see? she deserve it for being such a sweet and honest girl.

2. BinKsBaBy (296) | 3 years ago | No you didnt do anything wrong, any mother would have done the same thing! Especially with the knee, I personally would have done it even if my daughter wasnt hurt=) We watched High School Musical 1 and 2 together! So YES I know how big of a event the HSM2 was and my daughters only 5 and she was waiting for it so excited as soon as we had heard they were making a 2nt movie!=) So dont think that you did anything wrong, those little (sneaky) moments are the ones that our children will remember for a long time, and hopefully you will too!

3. casita (213) | 3 years ago | What you did was to create a memory with your daughter. And that is worth much more than the actual movie she wanted to see and worth more than staying that night in the school. The movie will be forgotten, she'll leave the school one day. . .but the memories of time spent with family will last a lifetime.

And best of all your daughter will remember how you took her feelings into consideration! I hope she enjoyed the movie and appreciated your reaction, it will be a good memory for the future! You will always have that remember when we..........! lol

7. patgalca (6025) | 3 years ago | You should see the lengths I went to so my girls could see High School Musical 2. We do not get the Disney channel. One friend of my younger daughter was going to have a group of friends over to watch it, which left my older daughter feeling left out. Her friend was away and was going to be watching on a small tv in a camper. Then the younger daughter's friend said she had to tape it because she had a soccer game.
So what did I do? My neighbours have a satellite dish so I knew they had to get the channel. I didn't think about this until after they had left for the weekend. My younger daughter was cat-sitting for them so I just told my girls to go over there and watch it. I sent them over earlier in the day to find the channel so they weren't looking for it at the last minute. They watched it, and I even went over and watched the last 20 minutes or so.
We always have our neighbour's key, and they have ours. I had every intention of asking them, but they left before I could. I know they wouldn't have minded. I have gone over to use their computer when mine has been on the fritz. They are so okay with this kind of stuff. It's just unfortunate they didn't have a VCR so we could have a tape of it. LOL!
I don't think what you did was wrong. There was a lot of moaning and groaning going on around here before the movie as well. I probably would have done the same thing in your shoes, if I had access to the channel.

9. oneandonemakesix (24038) | 3 years ago | I think that was a good way to solve the problem, although I would have advised her not to run toand if she ran it would make it look like it wasn't that bad off.
But maybe it was a little deceitful, but heck I don't think it was that big of a deal....
I think the warden made an executive decision, I just wonder how resentful the rest of the girls are going to be.

10. thegirlnextdoor (241) | 3 years ago | Well I am not a parent but I am sure that I would not have lied to a school official just so my child could watch a movie that will re-air sixty times in its many different forms(i.e sing-along) before coming out on DVD. Being upset about not getting to watch something on TV is nothing compared to real life so she will have to learn to deal with disappointments in life eventually. Giving in to her temper tantrum ( as thats what it amounts to) is just going to make it worse. I work with children on a daily basis and, though it is unfortunate, I sometimes have to tell them no, as they can not always do or have everything that they want.
