FYI, this is a gay website, but the facts of the case are the facts. Season 2 "Top Chef" contestent Jose and some friends were kicked and spat on by a group of 12 guys outside of a bar as the guys yelled gay slurs at them. Why? Why the hate? I just don't get it.

Sadly there will always be people who have hatred towards others.
We seem to be going backwards instead of forwards in society nowadays.
We have become very segregated, fear the unknown and some people will stay firmly inside their box and mistrust or hate anyone or anything that doesn't fit in the box with them.
Many people still grow up in communities or families that have prejudices and this is indoctrinated into them which makes them feel they are superior to anyone else.
I watched the film American History X a while back and there is one scene that is so upsetting. It shows the 2 male characters as little kids running on the beach, innocent and not influenced by their fathers prejudices.
We all come into this world innocent and it is what we experience that makes us who we are. I feel sorry for those who are brainwashed into believing they have the right to hurt or abuse others.
Until we can accept people for what they are this will sadly always exist. Its one of the sad aspects of human beings!!

I would really hate to think that we are going backwards and not forwards. I know that when my brother came out, some 20 odd years ago, he was threatened and stuffed in his locker at school on a daily basis. When my son told his friends that he was gay, only one deserted him. It heartens me to see the difference. But there is still much work to be done, obviously, from this event.

It's terrible is what it is. People just don't understand. It's a lack of understanding and a lack of wanting to understand. No one deserves this kind of treatment. No one deserves to be treated horribly just because they love differently, just because they are different. That goes for everyone. Black, white, yellow, purple, gay, straight, blonde, brunette, young, old, etc. It's wrong. We live in such a diverse society, this should not be happening at this point in time and it's sad that it still does.

"Why the hate? "
Because some ppl are just braindead, hateful, have nothing better to do than to make themselves APPEAR bigger/better by abusing others and they are just flatout a$$holes ;-)
sickening isnt it!

Sickening and sad. I do take comfort in the fact that these people seem to be in the minority these days. I stated to, Ittakesallsorts, above that when my brother came out 20 years ago, he was chastised. When my son came out, only one friend deserted him. The times are changing. We just need to make sure they are going in the right direction. That's why I fight on all gay posts. I need to educate for my son and every gay kid that comes after him.

I agree with you honey - bet it gets boring that I do that all the time! Well you know how I feel about this subject and it makes my blood go cold that people can treat others in this way! Apart from ignorance I truly believe that some people are scared by the way they could feel - they are scared they may be gay too and so they react violently - surely it is about time people were well and truly punished for this type of crime!xxx

Some people are just afraid of what they don't understand, so they lash out. That's really all there is to it. All that hate, all that anger, all that bias - it's stems from lack of understanding and fear. If you were to walk up to any of those 12 men and asked them about the science behind homosexuality, and what they knew of homosexuality, you wouldn't get much of an answer. They don't know, nor do they care to. They've had no reason to because they've probably never made an attempt to actually get to know any homosexuals.
While it seems callous, I usually pass people like this off as a waste of time. I don't care to argue with them, because it wouldn't make a difference. They choose to remain ignorant, so I'll let them enjoy that. I've met enough of those kind of people to know how their minds work, and I know from an experience that any attempt at enlightenment is a waste.

I wish I could let it go, but I can't. My son, my flesh and blood, is gay. As long as people like this are still around, my son's health and life are at stake. I will fight to the end for him. I wish I could just let them wallow in their ignorance. And if it was just talk, I would. But it's not. This is proof of that. I can't help but think that if the gay person was male, the result would have been worse.

Hi cyntrow, I agree with you 100%. It is crazy to see this sort of thing happening in the twenty first century. There are still many people who refuse to accept the fact, that gays are regular people, who just want the same rights as everyone else. Down through the years all minorities have had to fight for basic human rights. Eventually, people will be more accepting, and there will be less of this sort of behaviour. Blessings.
