Preventing Drops In Stars and Ratings---Rate...Rate...Rate!

Thanks alamode...we all need little nudges now and again. It has always perplexed me why members do not rate. The bare minimum to me is to reward anyone who comes to their site as a contributor..each and every time.

For me it is a polite and respectful way to say thank you for anyone who drops by and adds their wonderful words to my topics. Same thing when I go anywhere else...it seems like a little downer...pages and pages of unrated comments on many sites. I usually go along and click, click, click...plus, plus, plus...even if they never knew who did it. So if we all do it...hopefully everyone at Mylot will feel more appreciated...and there will be no chance for the 'neggies' of the group...to 'neg.'

Good to have your input and participation. That is why your membership has become important to many of us. Thanks!

This is a community... it shouldn't come down to high school-style cliques or popularity contests when we could be behaving like intelligent adults. Clicking the (-) is vindictive and a bit cowardly. People are stating their opinions... whether others agree or not, it shouldn't devolve into petty squabbles. We should all encourage and respect each other.

The only time I can see doing a negative or abuse rating is when a person is being rude, getting into name-calling or put-downs. That is uncalled for and in those cases I wouldn't have any trouble in giving them a negative. The same thing is true if they are abusive, threatening, racist or attacking a person's values or beliefs..I wouldn't hesitate to report them to Mylot either. But beyond that within my personal, professional and on-line interactions my goal is to have respectful dialog with others whether I agree or not. People have the right of free choice and free speech. It is beyond my what so many have trouble accepting that reality.

That is why I treasure my on-line friendships with members like you...and so many others I have met here. If that every changed I would be so far out of here!LOL

I must admit to a couple of - marks over some very rude behavior, but the discussion was deleted anyway. Now that I've caught up with my ratings, I will probably only just not rate the comment, if its out of line... - is a pretty serious thing! Gonna keep the good feelings going!!

Good to hear that we have similar views on this idea. At least we are doing our part in making sure members best interests are being maintained. If we keep encouraging old and new members to do the same hopefully abuses will be reduced.

Hi 'blue' and welcome to Mylot. With your approach I am sure your star will rating will come along well. It is always great to hear a new member that is willing to fully participate by using the rating system for the highest and greatest good of the all.

I agree everlasting - you should not be punished because you entered discussions where you had dissenting opinions. If the whole idea was to play it safe, we could all have 10 star ratings by only answering "what is your favorite color/dessert/movie star?" type discussions. I had a 10 rating until I entered one discussion. Luckily, I don't care that much anymore, I am nearing cash-out and I don't foresee my wanting to stay much longer in the future.

Ahhhh...I hope you will both stay and add your experience and wisdom to help us create where members like you will stay. The ratings system obviously has a lot of flaws. To me the dissatisfaction and lack of accuracy is something Mylot may need to take a look at.

I so agree with you both about having the right to speak and not being penalized for doing so has to be maintained. There are so many intelligent, thoughtful people here that are willing to offer a variety of viewpoints within 'free speech.' As long as the discussions are conducted as 'respectful dialog' there should not be any penalty in my view. This is a framework that many other Mylotters agree to as well.

It would be a shame if either or both of you left. You must know that many of your regular contributors and friends value who you are and what you bring to this community. If you leave...then those who have different values will win. There is something I try to live by and that is that each of us must have enough self worth so the rejection of our ideas by others has little effect when we are following our own path.

The ratings clearly are not an a true indication of how we are coming across...feedback from members is all that really matters here. So I would like to ask you both to give it a little more time before leaving...how about becoming part of the solution so we can all feel happier and a little more prosperous by reducing the negative impact of the 'neggie' members.

By your numbers you have been here awhile...it would be a loss to see you leave.

This is easier said than done. There are sites that are more friendlier than this site. I hate it when sites discriminate.

I am sorry I am unclear what you mean about this site being an unfriendly one...that is the first time anyone has ever said that. If you'd care to read over the pages of affirmations for the respectful dialog that everyone participates in I think you would see that anyone is welcome here..as long as we respect differences.

When I said that I do not want to get in the middle of other people's disagreements that hardly seems unfriendly. My approach to communication is that we all need to take responsibility for the cause and effect of our choices try to see both sides of any conflict. Taking sides on something that is not approach. I believe people will have enough emotional maturity to work out their differences without others adding their energy to the mix and maybe inflaming things further.

You and anyone else are welcome to participate in any topic...so how that can be unfriendly is beyond me.

Anyway, your observations are interesting...always something new to look at. That is why the site is named..."Perspectives" because we all have them.

I am bowing with my hands clasped over my heart...and saying thank your your your recognition. Reading that your rating went down reveals that something needs to be done to irradiate the 'neggies' who 'neg' from their lack of emotional maturity. I would be the first to rate you a blue ten..because I know the quality of your posts and your genuine concern for others.

Your point clearly affirms how we could counteract petty back stabbing. Rate, rate, rate anywhere, anytime and lets tighten up our ranks so others who are not working from the same value system as the rest of us.

It may be a great discussion...but so is your response. No doubt you have already received a big plus!

Your approach is the same is mine. I have not had your experience with a member using my post as a referral link. I'd probably ask them to refrain from that...then leave the rating blank as you do.

I am not suggesting blanket pluses or rewarding irresponsible or abusive behavior..so yes, we need to be discerning.

Your negative response to exercising your right to free speech is unfortunate. However, you are a strong person and as you said in your approval post...you have a strong, confident self-worth that is not dependent on the approval of others. We need all the free-thinking people we can have. Mass consciousness tends to prevent people from thinking outside the box.

So within Mylot land lets keep rating pluses for those who earn them...lessen the opportunity for negative thinkers to be eliminated and hold abusive members accountable by making Mylot aware we have a problem here that needs their attention.

I am very impressed with your articulate, honoring, fair-minded approach within Mylot Land. The way you navigate your way around and treat others the way you'd like to be treated is admirable. By not going back and negatively rating those who did it to you underscores how different your values are from theirs.

Whether it shows up in an increase in your rating or not I very much believe in the...what goes around comes around philosophy. Sooner or later your more honoring approach will come back from some other source.

I also applaud your unwillingness to allow others from preventing you from expressing your opinions...goodness yes! Whether it is in everyday living...or on discussion forums..no one can allow free speech to be silenced by those who cannot move beyond their narrow views.

Good for you...from the responses here it appears that there are a core group of us that do it that way. Hopefully we can encourage more of the old and all the Newbies to do the same. If we can it will be a win-win for all concerned.

Well I am not so unhappy for myself because so far I have only gone up and down a few points. If you read the content my concern started when friend sunshinecup, whiteheather, miamilady and a few others had their stars drop dramatically almost overnight. This was not a push for people to rate me any differently than they choose to. I am not hung up on that because I value the genuine feedback I receive directly far more than some nebulous rating system that doesn't explain much of anything.

So sorry if you thought I needed shoring up here. As I mentioned the post was more to rally a collective call to fellow Mylotters to protect each other from those with less honorable motives. However, it is sweet of you to think I wanted my rating raised...very nice. Thank you.
